Groundbreaking "Companies Vs. Climate Change" Conference Launched

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Companies Vs. Climate Change (CvCC) announced today the launch of its Companies Vs. Climate Change Conference which will convene in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida November 30th through December 2nd, 2016. The speaker faculty to date features some of the most innovative and esteemed corporate leaders in sustainability, including: Biogen; Citi; EY; GE; Hershey; Ingersoll Rand; JetBlue, Avery Dennison and TDBank.

One year following COP21's historic Paris Agreement, CvCC will provide a platform through which corporations can share best practices, lessons learned, and innovations generated through setting and implementing climate-related goals. CvCC is expected to convene business leaders from Fortune 1000 companies seeking to continue making meaningful strides to curb the advance of climate change.

The World Economic Forum's annual survey of global risks ranked the failure of climate change mitigation and adaptation as the #1 global risk in 2016 – outranking the potential damage from weapons of mass destruction and water crises, among other looming risks to society. In addition to expectations that unbridled climate change will result in devastating human, animal and ecosystem suffering, the projected value at risk associated with climate change in investment portfolios is staggering – with estimates ranging from $2 trillion to $72 trillion depending on time horizon and methodology.

When will people get it....you can no more stop the climate changing than you can stop the wind blowing or the tides from changing. Unless you give me $2 billion a year, then I can stop the wind and tides.

Carbon pricing works.
It works to raise revenue for the govt to waste on stupid sh*t. No human intervention or action would have stopped the climate changing in the last 4 billion years and no human intervention or action will stop it changing in the future. In fact the only stable thing about the climate in Earth's history is constant change. Anyone who believes humans can stop or start change in global climate conditions shouldn't be allowed out without supervision.

They reduced emissions.

You guys seem to really hate that for some reason.

Carbon pricing works.

For who? certainly not consumers even though many of them are gullible enough to think it does. All this is is a marketing ploy and people like you are dumb enough to swallow it.

The only thing carbon tax in BC had to do with reducing emissions is that it forced companies to modernize their equipment in order to avoid the tax so they could remain competitive. The problem is it raised the cost of staying alive to consumers far more than any other tax reductions it was supposed to counter. Especially those outside of the major urban areas where there is no expensive taxpayer subsidized public transit or Natural Gas. So the end result was more of a tax shift than anything.

Did I mention a bunch of sawmills closed and the jobs went to Washington state where taxes and wages are lower?

BC has already reduced carbon emissions.

No they haven't.

take a trip out to the left coast and see for yourself

They all took personal jets there *gasp*

Did they pay a carbon tax?

Betcha they cancel the event when the carbon tax goes in... Too expensive you understand.

PS - Why don't they ever hold these conferences in Yellowknife NWT or Churchill MB in February?

Back when I worked for the government, you could be sure that the bosses would attend "meetings" in Ottawa in July and Mexico City in February.

If it was Ottawa in February or Mexico City in July, staff got to go. Whee!

I spent a few days in March up in Yellowknife.. Colder than hell, but every night around 11, I would wander out of the hotel and watch the northern lights... It was unreal in every sense of the word.

A pack of smokes was $17.00, I can only imagine that actual fireworks would equal a mortgage payment or 3

... But in all seriousness, seeing the lights in a high North location is easily bucket-list worthy.... There is no pict or video that can come close to it.
