What exactly is your point? Are you implying that the Mayor controls property assessments?
My point is if you didn't receive a property assessment you don't pay tax in the city of Toronto either .

That would be incorrect. Anyone who rents is also paying property taxes. It is part of the cost of their rent.

Northern Ontario,
And anyone who just visits in Toronto also pay taxes indirectly through their purchases in the stores.........
so you don't have to live there to contribute to the tax system.

You would have to buy a hell of a lot of stuff to claim that your spending in stores contributes as much towards the property tax bill as someone who actually lives here.

Trying is futile if everybody is incapable of change. If individuals aren't able to change and situations aren't able to be changed, then any attempt to do so is absolutely pointless.

But we try anyways. Go figure. We can't help that either. ha ha ha. Some illusions are necessary perhaps.

I think you just proved more about yourself.

Obviously people coming in and out of the city provides an economic benefit, but there are also costs. We don't want to wall people out of Toronto, but we do need to discuss things like how to pay for all of the infrastructure to move these people. In our current system, the money simply isn't there.

Northern Ontario,
I like the way you deflect from that statement below....
Staying temporarily and shopping is also paying taxes indirectly, like renting....part of the cost in the merchandise .

It is a matter of amounts. A renter is still paying 100% of the property taxes on the unit that they live in, no different than any person living in a house/unit that they own.

The amount someone contributes to the tax coffers when they buy a coffee in Toronto or go to a movie is hard to calculate. We do know for certain though that residential and multi-residential tax revenues make up the majority of municipal property tax revenues for the city.

Northern Ontario,
Residential and not multi residential make up the bulk of taxes...
Rental (multi residential) makes up 15% of the tax levy in T.O. while Commercial is 35%
Thank you for playing and have a good day.......I am now totally bored with your deflection an goal post moving.......

Well for starters, properties classified as multi-residential only make up a fraction of the properties for rent in Toronto. It doesn't include condos or houses/parts of house that are rented out by their owners. Of all the people I know who are renting, I can only think of one who actually lives in a building that would be classified as multi residential.

For the people who do live in multiresidential units, they are actually paying a higher property tax rate than those who live in condos or houses.

I don't really see why you would separate that out in this discussion though. It is a subset of the group of people who live and pay property taxes in Toronto, and it is not an approximation of who owns vs rents. The total proportion of property taxes from residential and multi-residential is 61% of municipal property tax revenues.

The bulk of the money contributed to commercial property taxes is also going to be from the people who actually live here too.

Ford is like Jesus - crucified for our economic salvation, or so say his faithful.
no kidding, expect to see him walking on water any moment...

Nope- I’ve no idea whether or not Ford will be a suitable candidate come October and I’m not oblivious to his problems in the past, I just believe the past is the past and “tomorrow” is another day. Can Ford change enough to be suitable for re election? I have no idea. I admire the man for having the gumption to give it a try, and he seems to believe in himself and generally when a man believes in himself his chances of success are better. The electorate makes the final decision, so I really have no idea as to how it will turn out. I’m pretty sure of one thing though, many of the people bad mouthing him would fail dismally if they had to walk a mile in his shoes.
Yeah I'm sure of another thing; the guy is messed.

When the fact don't support your argument, some people just change the argument. That's what Das does. It won't be long now and he'll accuse you of "dancing". That's Das code for "I give up"
