Actually no, the Transit city LRT routes will move a lot more people than a few extra stops on the end of a subway line.
Subways have a higher capacity, but there simply are not enough people in these areas to utilize that capacity. LRTs have a lower capacity, but more than enough to services the areas in which they are being built, and at a third of the cost, you can cover much more ground for the same price.
I'm sorry you don't like the cold, but you live in Canada, it is part of the deal. I'd love a subway right at my front door, but I chose to live in a low density residential neighborhood, so there are tradeoffs.
