Woman lets male stranger she met at Walmart take her child for a snack. Child found murdered days later.

The body of 8-year-old Charish Lilly Perriwinkle was discovered near a church in Jacksonville, Fla. around 10 a.m. Saturday, Jacksonville.com reported.

Perriwinkle was abducted from a Walmart in Jacksonville at around 11 p.m. Friday.

Donald James Smith, a registered sex offender, has been arrested and charged with murder, according to Action News Jax.

Police have not commented on the cause of Perriwinkle's death.

Perriwinkle's mother told police that Smith had befriended her and her daughter at Walmart on Friday night, then disappeared with the girl after saying he was going to take her to the store's McDonald's for a snack.

Smith, 56, was previously convicted of attempted kidnapping and lewd and lascivious assault on children. Police tracked down Smith's van driving on I-95 in Jacksonville at around 9 a.m. Saturday. They have not said whether or not Smith led them to the girl's body.

One more god reason not to let them out to reoffend. SHould have exicuted the ba$tard the first time.

Agreed but that dosen't excuse the mothers decision.

And to Sal, the mother has changed her story because people in Florida, yes there are some logical people in Florida, are flipping out on her because of her decision to let the kid go with him..........

First off, have they proven that the mother agreed to let him, no misunderstandings, no matter of her doing soe shopping while he raped the girl and she discovered it later, etc.?

I haven't followed the details, but it's hard to immagine she would just have 'agreed', willingly, with no extreme coercion (even a gun to the head would be not enough for many parents).

I find it hard to understand how a mother in this day and age could have been so stupid.

Why do people always say 'in this day and age'? Barbarity has existed for a long time. There there have been more civilized periods in history and less civilized ones. This period is a confusing one, more civilized on some fronts, less on others.

Never mind my previour commoent. I just reread the OP.

I wonder if they will charge the mother.. I think they should personally.. what the hell was she thinking???
She was probably thinking "If I let this kid go with him he can be charged for murder, and I can cry and pretend it is all a horrible shock to me".

Why do people always say 'in this day and age'?
Yes there have always been pedophiles , serial killers, etc, however we hear it so much more often now than when I was a kid or even my children were kids. Believe me there was no way I would have allowed my kids any of them to go with a stranger for any reason.

You never let your kids go to school? church? boyscouts? Those are the places pedophiles hang out.

Don't be silly, she allowed her little girl to go with a complete stranger, and got her child killed.

Which is total negligence of behalf of the parent.. she should be charged.

No the loss of her child is not suffice of a punishment, the child would still be alive if it wasn't for her, ultimately ...

It's like you tell your sister/brother; "don't worry about your seat belt," then slam head on into a poll, drunk ... you're responsible for the death by your actions, so now we shouldn't charge you because we feel sorry for your lose??

Yeah, I feel sorry for the child and want to fight for justice of the victim, in this case the child.

My opinion. She cannot be charged unless the Police can prove negligence at a minimum. Then it becomes what type of negligence.
Not sure what the laws are there so I will leave it at that.
