Last night we grilled a couple of inch thick New York strip loins and they
were excellent. We bought a new barbeque last year and it does work
great. We are putting a partial cover on the sun deck that will allow us to barb-
-eque all year long but it is not done yet. We've had a lot of rain lately and last
night was the first really great barbeque night this year. There is nothing quite
like the first barbequed steak of the season.

We barbecue all year round, and we don't have a roof over the bbq - i shovel a path to it in winter...the only problem is that when it's really cold, the propane doesn't flow like in summer, since it's too cold to vaporize as quickly.

Ten Penny you are one dedicated barbecuer. I'm sure there are ways around most of the problems we run into. A snowbank is the
one thing that might drive me into buying a Jenn-Air range.

Barbecue sauce for ribs
Just mix all the ingredients and spread on both side of ribs

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup rum
1/2 cup chile sauce
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon each of salt and black pepper

Always best if you can let the ribs soak in the sauce overnight.

Had the same problem when we were in NB - Out here we had NG in for the grill- and eyes - Grill all year round. Nothing like grilled chicken - steak - hot of the grill- and minus 30 outside.

I guess you are referring to the coal. I wonder if the wood causes cancer as well?

No... charred meat is a carcinogen in and of itself.

To cut down on this risk, marinate with herbs rich in antioxidants such as rosemary, and cook over lower heats to avoid too much charring.

There are days when barbecuing outside in Nanaimo is just silly.......like when it is pi$$ing down rain for one.
If it is minus 30 outside, that is a good reason to use the grille on your stove in the kitchen.

PS....Nanaimo doesn't get that cold.... In any case, the roof over our deck is finished so it's a moot point.

I'll grill right up to -20. After that the tiniest breeze is enough to keep it from getting warm enough. But, we put a huge roof extension on our back deck so rain and snow aren't an issue.

This weekend we hooked up the third tank of propane so far this year.
We BBQ often.

If we had had the roof extension done, we would have barbecued a lot more often. The roof over the deck
will make a big difference.

It has made a big difference.
