Experts are investigating after people in B.C., Washington and Oregon reported a fireball streaking across the sky Saturday night.
The American Meteor Society received 205 reports of what is believed to be a meteor.
"Many observers commented on the intense green colour, which is not that unusual with bright meteors," the AMS said. "The green colour is associated with doubly ionized oxygen, high in the atmosphere, being 'excited' as the fireball plows through the atmosphere."
Reports flooded in around 8:30 p.m., including one from Karen F. of New Westminster, B.C., who described the flash as light blue and very large.
"There were two of us who saw this event and it was one of the most bright and amazing things either of us have seen in the night sky. Almost unbelievable to witness," she said. "It was much larger than a typical shooting star. It took up a portion of sky about half the size of the moon."
Another witness observed a white light with trails.
"The biggest/brightest I have ever seen," said T.S. of Qualicum Beach, B.C. "Seemed like 3 balls...believe it had 3 tails (streams)...at least 2. Grew up watching the sky...nothing like this before!"
Price T. of Campbell River, who said the glowing light was yellow, thought the object landed nearby.
"This fireball passed approx 50 feet in front of me when it was heading on a course to hit the ground in the subdivision and trees to my west. It was an incredible sight!" he said.

There is some weird in the sky's over Campbell River. One evening I was standing outside with a relative and saw these lights. Not the only time. I said to hey watch this and please give me an explanation. Both of us were perplexed. I'm sure it was explainable but not by us.
