LISTEN to the ROAR of that crowd. Face it... the NHL will never be that big in the USA. It will be the #4 sport and that still is pretty good.

People love the fighting. I have been to many Bruins games and never have I seen a guy stand up and say...

"KNOCK IT OFF!"

...while a fight is going on.

It won't be big in certain States, but in Philadelphia(which is where that game actually took place) it is huge.

You are right, penalties do not deter players from taking cheap shots, BUT they do deter teams from winning the game.

If you are down 5-0 in the third, do you think the losing team is really going to care about a 2 minute penalty at that point? I doubt it.

Someone brought up baseball. Baseball has brawls. Hockey no longer has any brawls. Can someone justify why there could ever be a fight in a baseball game? Plus, the game is the biggest money maker in sports..senseless fights over nothing included.

Baseball brawls 99% of the time start with a pitcher hitting a batter and the opposing team's pitcher retaliates.

Sometimes batters will crowd the plate... and the pitcher will brush him back off the strike zone...or hit him.

Sometimes a pitcher will not like that a batter has been successful at bat against him and will brush him back...or hit him.

Sometimes when the star player is hit, the opposing team will hit the other teams star player or equivalent.

My nephew pitched in the Minors and he said it is an unwritten rule. If he was pitching and one of his players was hit by a pitch due to aggressiveness... you had to go right out there and hit one of their batters. They would not even tell him too... he knew he HAD to or risk his players thinking he was a <bad word> for not protecting his teammates.

The NHL does well in most of the northern states...

Are Bruins tickets hard to come by?

They are now as they are doing good. They used to be SO hard to come by but the Owner Jeremy Jacobs is all about turning a profit as opposed to winning. He is one of the toughest owners and holds the line on the salaries.

You are quite right, but anytime they engage in an altercation there is always a slight chance they could get injured for the next game or get a suspension of several games.

I feel your pain. The Ballard Years were not a good time to be a Leaf fan.

It seems you get more games for calling someone "sloppy seconds" than you do if you elbow a guy in the head knocking him out(or concussing him). That needs to change.

Agreed. New York, Boston, Chicago, Philly...they have always and will always do well.

I may take flack here but it is part of the game and I enjoy that part. The cheap shots I hate. The ones that end careers. I remember Ulf Samuelson ending probably Boston's best player (besides Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque) career...Cam Neely. Ulf but his knee right above Cam's knee at center ice and that was pretty much it for Cam.

You would probably find a lot of people agree with you.

Does a beer at a Boston game cost you $11.00 like in Toronto? :x

You won't take flack from me. I enjoy fighting in hockey. It is the cheap shots that I hate(just as you do).

I remember that hit. I kept hoping that Cam would be able to come back, but as time went on it became obvious that he was finished. The knee had deteriorated and there was nothing that could be done. I wonder if that injury had happened today if anything would have been able to have been done to help him play again.:-(

He did come back for a short while and even faced off against Ulf. The linesmen stepped right in and Cam got sent to the box right away. He would never get back at him after that. That SUCKED.

i can see that - calling someone "sloppy seconds" is rather poor form in polite society and contributes ABSOLUTELY nothing towards winning the game, whereas if you can knock a guy out (without being noticed) there may be a ghost of a chance of winning.

One thing has nothing to do with the other, on ice hockey activity within the
game, and off ice behavior connected to your team, the nhl, and personal
criticizm of another, he sought out the microphone to deliberately draw
attention to himself and make derogatory remarks about others.
There is no way anyone can connect what he did, to head hunting in a game.
That's how I see it.

John Garrett was a good goaltender, one of a few Canuck goaltenders of that time with a winning record. Good goaltenders have a certain, instinctive talent that can overcome shortcomings like size.

John garrett would 'never' make any nhl team if he was trying out now, but
at a young age, everything is better now, in all sports.

But I agree he was a good goalie at that time.

And you'd be absolutely right.
