Said, what were some of tunes in the 45 collection?
Both my parents had an extensive collection of album collection, in their 45 box, they had everything from Captain Beefheart to Feron young. My mother liked Acid Rock, Folk and Reggae, my father like everything from Elvis to Johnny Horton. They were both big Charlie Rich fans too.

That is quite a variety. There isn't much they didn't like.

Captain Beefheart, man I haven't hear that name since the Frank Zappa days.

Feron Young, I played at one of those PNE bandshells way back as a kid and his daughter was singing lead. Unfortunately she was "out of meter" constantly and it was like a puzzle trying to get the songs resynced to her. Can't remember her name, she was cute and blond, I guess that was all that mattered (including her last name).

Asleep at the Wheel and Willie Nelson aren't even close to "guilty secret" music. Those (particularly AatW) are top notch musicians and ice-cool. Same goes for Hank Snow, Waylon Jennings, Flatt and Scruggs, Emmylou Harris, Patsy Cline,John Hiatt, Steve Earl, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, even "wiggly butt" Dwight Yoakum, to name a few greats that those who like labels call "country".

There's two kinds of music in my book: good music and crap. Every genre has examples of both, though "Pop", "Adult Contemporary" and "Rap" seem to exceptionally well represented in the second category...

Pasta's former guilty pleasure (I cringe when I hear it now): Uriah Heep. I owned every album. In fact, "Salisbury" was the first cassette I wore out.

Anything by Enrique Iglesias, to be honest.

Whenever I hear his voice I get sucked into some sort of dream-state.

Oh My God, Five!

Have yourself examined for.....well, I don't know what, but something's wrong! :D

Now here's your turn.

I like (gulp) Prince. Or the Artist Formerly known as Prince. Or whatever the hell his name is this week.......a 80's Jimi Hendrix.

Now, I KNOW I need my head examined.

Oh yeah.

Old-time church music, from a youth spent dragged into Baptist churches. You know, The Old Rugged Cross, Onward Christian Soldiers, Shall we gather at the River?

How's that for opposite ends of the spectrum?

ok this is off topic, but where else am I gonna tell this bizarre happening?

On the weekend I was at a country and western bar listening to a friend's band play... during the band's break, the dj played - get this - a Michael Jackson song! and get THIS... the dance floor was filled - I mean FILLED with people doing a line dance to it.

Since when do C&W baars play MJ and when did he get his own line dance????

twilight zone ?

Probably to "Beat It". Zan, the funny thing about music is if you break it down there are only minute differences between styles and rhythms. Very minute.

Thanks for bring both of those up, I'm partial to "Just a closer walk with thee" by The million dollar quartet - Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. Rasberry Beret is one I like too.

Where The Wild Things Are
I love so many different styles of music and so many different artists, I never know if I am supposed to be "ashamed" of my choices or not. Rather than fret about approval in the eyes (ears) of others, I have embraced my vast music taste! I have something in my music collection that would please and offend almost everyone and I'm ok with that!

Right now I am rocking the iPod with artists such as: The Go! Team, Sonic Youth, Santana, Sean Paul, Burton Cummings, Tom Waits, CCR, Gossip, Broken Social Scene, Coheed and Cambria, The Mamas and The Papas, Neutral Milk Hotel, and of course the ever present Opeth. :|

Backstreet Boys
Westlife
NSYNC

etc etc etc

But I dont care, I like what I like no matter who thinks its uncool.

Elvis
Patsy Kline
Brenda Lee

...I'm sure there's more, but those are a couple off the top

Ok ... I confess to being glad "Elvis has left the building", but how could anyone NOT love Patsy Kline and Brenda Lee?? They were amazing vocalists!

My lil secret is ... ahem ... Karen Carpenter. Truly music to stalk by if I ever heard it. Still, I sing along to all her songs and (big confession here) even had to get one CD. Ack.

Don't know if this falls into the category, but I confess to an affinity for baroque and chamber music. It's for the opposite of my Metallica and Tool moods.

Geez, I like Karen Carpenter too. What a beautiful voice.

A song that I shamefully admit to liking is Both Sides Now - Judy Collins. It reminds me so much of my childhood. My 5th grade teacher would sing it to us.

:D Hey, there's a music forum :!: :!: :!:

No secrets here. I love ol-time fiddlin and old country. Play mandolin and slide guitar in open stages and any other place that won't throw me out.

Also, old folk stuff, blues, and some classical. Music in general.

Can't get too excited about rap or hip hop. Just too oldnugly for that. 8)

Listening to Norman Blake and Tut Taylor as we type.

Eeeeehawww
