They don't have it in California either.

The perfect answer from someone who was just shown how stupid they are. Retarded almost. See, we should sterilize you and your entire family.

If you read the topic opener you would see that a 150 women were sterilized without their consent in California. Now run along and play and don't bother the adults..

I read the headline AND the actual article and even googled the subject and found 2 different pieces on it. I do know what the issue is in the story. I also know the issue that shows in your opinion that forced sterilization of 'retards' is a good thing makes you anything but adult. It might make you a retro-grade retard in your own right who should have been subjected to your own suggestion but certainly not an adult.

Let me demonstrate your stupidity...
A woman had five kids while she was in prison? Sounds like terminal stupidity to me. Sounds like some sort of enforced birth control is in order. If the kids are as stupid as she is, she is probably turning out a whole new generation of inmates.

A point I seem to have missed is that a woman who has five kids while in prison is obviously retarded. Kindest thing they could do is sterilization.

Am I missing something here. How does the state have a right to sterilize anyone without their consent.

They used to. If they still do that is quite disturbing.

IF the women had it done on their own volition, Good. If not it could be a "slippery slope".

No need for it to be a slippery slope. That implies that it might get bad in the future. If this is going on its something bad happening now.

Within reason.

I don't know. There may be a case for forced steriliazation, but I'd really have to think about that one.

You don't need to force anything... All one needs to do is 'force' the bio parent(s) to assume full and complete financial responsibility for their children and you'll see things change over night

While the sentiment is a good one I'm not sure how you force financial responsibility on the destitute and imprisioned.

What you're missing is that they didn't go to the doc and ask for it, they were pressured and coerced into it. Some of these women were obviously not of a mental capacity to make an informed decision which is even worse. It is state-sponsored eugenics and absolutely appalling.
They didn't go to the doctor I get that but it was offered and they said yes. The were repeat offenders who were also pregnant. What is rational and logical can change down the road when there is possible money involved. Who said they were coerced? A convict...LATER.

As for mental capacity here for me it gets dicey. We had a young girl living in the building here.
She had three kids, separated from her boyfriends and their fathers. She went downstairs to the front door to talk to one of her many male visitors. She left her baby in the tub. When she came back up, 15 or so minutes later, the baby was floating, she had no phone to call 911 and ran up and down the hall screaming until someone responded. They worked on that child in the home and later in the ambulance at the front door for 45 minutes, so well over an hour in total. The baby lived.

That baby will NEVER have a life. The girl,s parents will never have a life. Baby can't walk or talk or focus. That girl gets pregnant every year and every baby gets removed immediately.

So I am uncertain about how I feel about "forced" sterilization. I am not saying yes or not because it is grey to me. As was the above situation. Were some rights violated. Maybe. Try though I may nothing to me is black and white. Life would be easier if it was.

Can't because of the welfare of the children.

You can't squeeze blood out of a rock, and in the end, we are all responsible for the children of the community.

Give the destitute free condoms... Incarcerated folks can go the forced labour route to pay for their 3 minutes of fun

Can't because of the welfare of the children.

Sure you can, see above

easier to keep it in place and just sue for lots of money

Great... The clawbacks on the settlement can go towards healthcare, caring for their kids and their incarceration

You can't squeeze blood out of a rock, and in the end, we are all responsible for the children of the community.

Squeezing goes no where... However, a commercial rock crusher might.

I'm willing to take that chance

I like the American prison system for serious dangerous criminals, but for average run of the mill mischief, I think the Americans over do the prison terms. I'm betting that most of these woman are there because of things like lack of education, skills and community support more than for heinous crimes they've committed. They'd do much better in a structured system in the community. I'm sure a lot of them have a propensity for finding abuse.

That doesn't work anymore. Whether you have 2 kids or 200 the cheque doesn't get any bigger.

What? No more Family Allowance? We had only two children but the Family Allowance was what paid a good lump into both kid's university fund.
