We call it "voting"

No we don't...we call it a "petition", and we call it exclusionary.

The intolerance and subjective exclusion that you obviously support is hypocritical and abhorrent. Disgusting bigoted behavior like yours has no place in society...diversity is our strength, the sooner you learn that, the better off we all will be.

Why can't he do that without going to a gay parade?

It's moot anyhow, they would petition him and demand that he not attend. The pride community is revealing itself to be grossly intolerant of anyone that doesn't comply strictly with their political agenda. That's not the Canadian way, we are supposed to be inclusive.

So you will vote for the guy who came out to your parade lol

But you have a problem with gay people doing the same lol

Hopeless fool thinks the pride community is a democracy.

I think you just have a problem with gay people lol

You obviously have a problem not just with white people, but with straight people as well. You're not only a racist, but heterophobic.

Scheer has announced a tax free maternity benefits.

None of it is costed of course.

Nobody expects a conservative to actually do the math.

Interesting that the conservatives are trying to switch gears to policy based chatter after months of Trudeau bashing,

Could it be due to the bump in the polls that Trudeau has gotten since he stated that he would not apologize for fighting for jobs?

One must pick ones fights carefully

Don't need to. Haven't you heard...budgets balance themselves.

Even more interesting how party policy discussions commence just prior to an election. Crazy.

Could it be due to the bump in the polls that Trudeau has gotten since he stated that he would not apologize for fighting for jobs?

A bump in the polls? Sorry champ...hot off the press.

Of course, the real impact on the poll numbers will show up in the next week or 2.

Oh well another Trudeau win, is a loss for Canada as Alberta leaves to become the 51st State
What's Scheer going to do to deal with the fringe Alberta assholes in his caucus if he wins? Harper had the smarts to keep them down. Let's see if Scheer can keep the wackos under control.

Maxim? The idiot who left all the sensitive NATO code stuff with his shag-du-jour?

Maxim is an idiot. If the wind's bowing the right way, his new party MIGHT attract 3% of the vote. Maxim is also a proto Nazi and disaffected losers are his awesome "power base".

Liberals dig up video of Scheer speaking against same-sex marriage

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer spoke out against same-sex marriage as MPs were debating whether to legalize it nearly 15 years ago, and the Liberals are reminding everyone about it while pressuring him to attend the Ottawa Pride parade. OTTAWA — The federal Liberals are urging Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer to attend the Ottawa Pride parade this weekend after circulating a video of him speaking out against same-sex marriage during a debate in the House of Commons nearly 15 years ago.
The parade in the national capital takes place Sunday, just a week after Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson came out as openly gay after decades in public life.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale tweeted a video of Scheer’s April 2005 speech opposing the Civil Marriage Act, which legalized same-sex marriage in Canada later that year.
“There is nothing more important to society than the raising of children, for its very survival requires it,” Scheer said in his speech, delivered about a year after he was elected as the Conservative MP for the Saskatchewan riding of Regina-Qu’Appelle for the first time.
“Homosexual unions are by nature contradictory to this,” he said.
“There is no complementarity of the sexes. Two members of the same sex may use their God-given free will to engage in acts, to co-habit and to own property together. They may commit themselves to monogamy. They may pledge to remain in a loving relationship for life,” he said.
“In that sense they have many of the collateral features of marriage, but they do not have its inherent feature, as they cannot commit to the natural procreation of children. They cannot therefore be married.”
The majority of Conservative MPs voted against the bill, as did a number of Liberal MPs.
The message by Goodale hints at some of the notes the Liberals will strike during the fall federal election campaign, when they hope to keep progressive-minded voters in their camp instead of voting for the New Democrats or the Greens.
The Conservatives responded by saying the Liberals were trying to distract Canadians from the SNC-Lavalin affair and pointed out that many Liberals MPs, including those currently sitting, had at one time or another voted against same-sex marriage.
“Andrew Scheer unequivocally supports equal LGBTQ rights, including same-sex marriage as defined in law,” the Conservative party said in a statement.
“He has advocated in the House for marginalized LGBTQ communities around the world,” the statement said. “While the Trudeau Liberals will do anything to distract from their record of scandal and failure, Andrew Scheer will continue to share his positive vision to help Canadians get ahead.”
Goodale voted in favour of legalizing same-sex marriage in 2005, but voted against a private member’s motion calling for the recognition of same-sex spouses in 1995.
In 1999, Goodale voted in favour of a motion saying it was necessary to state that marriage should remain between one man and one woman, and that Parliament should do what it could to protect it.
He was not immediately available for comment Thursday.
Scheer has softened his stance on same-sex marriage since the debates over the Civil Marriage Act.
He supported a move to erase the traditional definition of marriage from the Conservative Party of Canada’s policy book at its 2016 convention, arguing Canadians already had their say in two elections where same-sex marriage was a major issue, and that it had been legal for more than a decade.
“It wasn’t the Conservative party taking a new position on marriage,” he said in an interview with CPAC at the time.
“It was just deleting a clause that, in the minds of many, had become a little bit anachronistic.”
But the Conservative leader has declined to march in Pride parades.

Liberals dig up old anti same-sex marriage video of Scheer

OTTAWA — Liberals went trolling Thursday for young, progressive-minded voters with 14-year-old video footage of Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer speaking out against same-sex marriage — a tactic that prompted Jagmeet Singh to vow that New Democrats won’t prop up a minority Conservative government.
The “disgusting prejudice” against gay, lesbian and transgendered Canadians exhibited in the video is “exactly why, if Canadians deliver a minority government in October, I will not prop up Andrew Scheer and the Conservatives,” the NDP leader said in a statement.
“We can’t trust Mr. Scheer or his caucus to champion the fundamental rights of Canadians.”
Singh’s statement came several hours after Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale tweeted a short, edited video of an April 2005 speech Scheer gave in the House of Commons explaining his opposition to the Civil Marriage Act, which legalized same-sex marriage in Canada later that year.
Along with the video came a challenge to march in Sunday’s Ottawa Pride parade, with Goodale noting that Scheer has never yet participated in any Pride parade.
The parade has taken on some additional significance this year after Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson days ago came out as openly gay after decades in public life.
Some remain in caucus.
Brock Harrison, director of communications for Scheer, said the Conservative leader has no plans to change same-sex marriage laws.
“Mr. Scheer supports same-sex marriage as defined in law and as prime minister will, of course, uphold it,” Harrison tweeted Thursday.
“This is yet another desperation tactic from Trudeau on the eve of an election to distract from his record of failure and incompetence.”
Still, the Conservatives said earlier this year he would not take part in any Pride events, and he has dodged questions about his personal beliefs.
“People have personal views on things,” he said in a 2016 interview with CBC.
“I voted my conscience. I voted my constituents’ wishes. It’s not something that I’m looking to revisit or to reopen.”
Goodale said Thursday that promising not to reverse legislation on same-sex marriage does not go far enough.
“The unfortunate reality is that too many Canadians still face discrimination, hate and violence because of their sexual orientation,” Goodale said in a statement. “Canadians expect action, not words alone.”
Goodale, who was not otherwise available for comment, voted in favour of legalizing same-sex marriage in 2005.
But he did vote against a private member’s motion calling for the recognition of same-sex spouses in 1995.
In 1999, Goodale voted in favour of a motion saying it was necessary to state that marriage should remain between one man and one woman, and that Parliament should do what it could to protect it.
Jonathan Rose, an associate professor of Canadian politics at Queen’s University, said the video is setting the stage for the campaign to come.
“All parties need to do is sow the seeds of doubt,” he said.
“This won’t cause anyone to change their mind, probably, but over time, the slow, steady, drip, drip, drip of these kinds of allegations from now right to election day may have people change their minds,” he said. “It’s the first salvo in a long, ongoing war.”
