vienna — an austrian law that forbids any kind of full-face covering including islamic veils has claimed an unusual victim — a man wearing a shark suit.
Police say they issued a citation monday after the man — part of a street advertising campaign for the mcshark computer chain stores — refused several requests to take off his shark head.
In effect this month, most full face coverings are prohibited in public in austria, including off-slope ski masks, surgical masks outside hospitals and party masks on the street. Popularly known as the “burqa ban,” the law is mostly seen as directed at the clothing worn by some ultra-conservative muslim women.
Violations carry a possible fine of 150 euros ($221). Only a handful of citations have been issued.

BRUSSELS — The Belgian government is suspending funding for two school construction projects in the Palestinian territories after it emerged that a school it backed was later renamed after a woman it considers a terrorist.
Belgium said it backed a school in the south of Hebron only to find out in 2013 that local authorities changed its name to “Dalal Mughrabi Elementary School.”
Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said that Mughrabi was “a Palestinian terrorist” who led a 1978 attack against Israel which killed 38, including 13 children.
“Belgium will not allow itself to be associated with the names of terrorists in any way,” a statement from Reynders’ office said. Two projects totalling $3.9 million have been put on hold.

Captive Amanda Lindhout begged mother to pay ransom after severe beating
THE CANADIAN PRESS
First posted: Thursday, October 12, 2017 08:12 AM EDT | Updated: Thursday, October 12, 2017 08:40 AM EDT
OTTAWA — After a year in captivity, Amanda Lindhout begged her mother during a frantic phone call to quickly come up with a hefty ransom because her Somalian abductors had started to torture her.
In a recording of the September 2009 call played in court Wednesday, Lindhout told her mother, Lorinda Stewart, that she had been beaten while her legs and hands were tied. And she said her captors would abuse her every day until the money was paid.
“You have to pay the money now. Where is the money?” a panicked Lindhout says.
“Do you understand what they’re doing to me?”
Lindhout was a freelance journalist from Red Deer, Alta., when she and Australian photographer Nigel Brennan were seized near Mogadishu in August 2008 while working on a story. Both were released in November 2009.
Ali Omar Ader, a 40-year-old Somali national, has pleaded not guilty in Ontario Superior Court to a criminal charge of hostage-taking for his alleged role.
Upon hearing her daughter’s pleas from half a world away, Stewart tried to assure her she was doing her best to come up with the US$2 million the kidnappers were demanding for release of the pair.
“Amanda, we love you,” she says. “We are trying so hard, Amanda. The government will not help us. We are selling everything we can.”
By this point, Lindhout and Brennan’s families had managed to scrape together US$434,000 by selling vehicles, farm machinery and property.
Stewart asked Ader several times to persuade “the group” to lower the amount demanded, telling him during a series of tense phone calls the families were not rich, there was no insurance money and the Canadian and Australian governments would not pay a ransom as a matter of policy.
“You are making our family suffer,” Stewart says during one call.
“You need to come down. We don’t have that money.”
Ader replies: “What we want is to get that money, and that money is $2 million.”
Stewart then asks Ader, “What does Allah think about what you do?”
Ader remains unswayed. “We need $2 million.”
Stewart insisted to Ader she was not lying or playing games with him.
“We want our children home and we are doing the best we can,” she says. “How can I get money that I don’t have?”
Ader sat expressionless in the prisoner’s box, his ankles shackled, as he listened to the eight-year-old recordings.
He was arrested by the RCMP in Ottawa in June 2015. It emerged during pre-trial motions last spring that the Mounties had lured Ader to Canada with a scheme to sign a supposed book-publishing deal.
The Crown says Ader admitted to undercover investigators on two occasions that he was the negotiator in the kidnapping and that he was paid $10,000.
Lindhout broke down during testimony last week, describing her abduction by a gang of armed men in masks as the beginning of 460 days of hell.

Canadian man, family held hostage in Afghanistan are released
THE CANADIAN PRESS
First posted: Thursday, October 12, 2017 12:03 PM EDT | Updated: Friday, October 13, 2017 08:11 AM EDT
A Canadian man, his American wife and their three young children have been released from captivity after being held hostage for years by a network with ties to the Taliban.
Joshua Boyle and his wife Caitlan Coleman were abducted five years ago while travelling in Afghanistan and were held by the Haqqani network, a group U.S. officials call a terrorist organization. Coleman was pregnant when she was captured, and the couple had three children while in captivity.
Pakistan secured the release of the family this week, U.S. officials said Thursday, but it was not immediately clear when they would return to North America.
Boyle’s parents, who live in Smiths Falls, Ont., issued a video statement released to the Toronto Star saying they spoke with their son over the phone early Thursday morning.
“That’s the first time in five years we got to hear his voice. It was amazing,” Linda Boyle said. “He told us ... how much his children were looking forward to meeting their grandparents, and that he’d see me in a couple days.”
Patrick Boyle, who said the family was not yet en route to Canada, thanked those involved in the case.
“We’d really like to thank the American and Afghan governments as well as our own Canadian team,” he said. “Most importantly this morning we relayed to the high commissioner of Pakistan here in Canada our profound thanks for the courageous Pakistani soldiers who risked their lives and got all five of ours out in a rescue.”
RCMP officers were keeping reporters away from the family’s home in Smiths Falls, located about 80 kilometres west of Ottawa.
Coleman’s parents, meanwhile, posted a statement on the door of their Pennsylvania home saying they appreciated “all the interest and concern being expressed at the joyful news that Caity, Josh and our grandchildren have been released after five long years of captivity.”
Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said Canada was “greatly relieved” that Joshua Boyle and his family had been released and are safe.
“Joshua, Caitlan, their children and the Boyle and Coleman families have endured a horrible ordeal over the past five years. We stand ready to support them as they begin their healing journey,” she said in a statement, while also thanking the U.S., Afghan and Pakistani governments for their efforts in the case.
The family was not in U.S. custody, though they were together in a safe location in Pakistan, according to a U.S. national security official, who wasn’t authorized to discuss the case publicly.
U.S. officials had planned on moving the family out of Pakistan on a U.S. transport plane, but at the last minute Boyle refused to board, the official said.
Another U.S. official said Boyle was nervous about being in “custody” given that he was previously married to the sister of Omar Khadr, who spent 10 years at Guantanamo Bay after being captured when he was 15 in a firefight at an al-Qaida compound in Afghanistan. Officials discounted any link between that background and Boyle’s capture.
The couple has told U.S. officials that they wanted to fly commercially to Canada, according to an official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly about the situation.
In Pakistan, its military said in a statement that U.S. intelligence agencies had been tracking the hostages and discovered they had come into Pakistan on Oct. 11 through its tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
The release, which came together rapidly Wednesday, comes nearly five years to the day since Boyle and Coleman lost touch with their families while travelling in a mountainous region near the Afghan capital, Kabul.
The high commissioner of Pakistan to Ottawa said he had no details on the operation but said it was clear it had to happen quickly once Pakistani authorities received intelligence about the Boyle family’s whereabouts.
“Once we knew they had been moved to Pakistan we took the action,” said Tariq Azim Khan.
The couple set off in the summer 2012 for a journey that took them to Russia, the central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, and then to Afghanistan. Coleman’s parents last heard from their son-in-law on Oct. 8, 2012, from an internet cafe in what Boyle described as an “unsafe” part of Afghanistan.
The couple appeared in a series of videos beginning in 2013, which were shared online. In the most recent, posted last December, the pair urged governments on all sides to reach a deal to secure the family’s freedom. Boyle’s parents had said the clip marked the first time they had seen their two grandchildren.
Patrick and Linda Boyle had said it was heartbreaking to watch their grandsons observing their surroundings while listening to their mother describe how they were made to watch her being “defiled.”
“It is an indescribable emotional sense one has watching a grandson making faces at the camera, while hearing our son’s leg chains clanging up and down on the floor as he tries to settle his son,” the Boyles said in a written statement. “It is unbelievable that they have had to shield their sons from their horrible reality for four years.”
The parents said their son told them in a letter that he and his wife tried to protect their children by pretending their signs of captivity are part of a game being played with guards.
In the clip, Coleman said she and her family had been living a “Kafkaesque nightmare” since 2012. The Boyles had said their daughter-in-law could not have used a more accurate term.
Meanwhile, Coleman’s parents, Jim and Lyn Coleman, told the online Circa News service in July 2016 that they received a letter from their daughter in November 2015, in which she wrote that she’d given birth to a second child in captivity. It’s unclear whether they knew she’d had a third.
In commenting on news of the family’s release from captivity, U.S. Premier Donald Trump praised Pakistan for its willingness to “do more to provide security in the region.”
“Yesterday, the United States government, working in conjunction with the Government of Pakistan, secured the release of the Boyle-Coleman family from captivity in Pakistan,” Trump said in a statement. “Today they are free.”

Switzerland to hold referendum on banning niqabs and other face-covering garments

GENEVA — The Swiss government says voters will decide whether to ban face-covering garments like masks or Muslim burqas and niqabs.
The government said Friday a vote on the ban, championed by far-right groups, will take place. That comes after advocates gathered over 100,000 signatures to put the initiative on the ballot under Switzerland’s system of direct democracy, which lets voters decide major policy issues.
The executive Federal Council will set a date for the referendum, not expected before next year.
Passage would put Switzerland alongside France, Austria and other European countries in prohibiting face-covering garments. The Italian-speaking Swiss region of Ticino enacted such a ban last year.
The measure was proposed by a group including lawmakers from the nationalist Swiss People’s Party that was also behind a ban on building minarets in Switzerland.

Truck bomb kills 20 in Somalia's capital
Abdi Guled, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

MOGADISHU, Somalia — A huge explosion from a truck bomb killed 20 people in Somalia’s capital, police said Saturday, as shaken residents called it the most powerful blast they’d heard in years.
The explosion appeared to target a hotel on a busy road in Hodan district and at least 15 people were injured, police Capt. Mohamed Hussein said. Security forces had been trailing the truck after it raised suspicions, he said.
Police said people were trapped in the rubble of the Safari Hotel, which was largely destroyed in the explosion. The hotel is close to Somalia’s foreign ministry. Rescue workers were at the scene.
The Somalia-based extremist group al-Shabab recently stepped up attacks on army bases across south and central Somalia. While there was no immediate claim of responsibility for Saturday’s blast, al-Shabab often targets high-profile areas of Mogadishu with deadly bombings.
Gunshots could be heard at the site, and ambulance sirens wailed across the capital, which has been under tight security with military-manned checkpoints.
The explosion left a trail of destruction across a busy intersection, with several bodies and bloodied slippers and shoes. Windows of nearby buildings were shattered. Overturned cars lay in the street, burning. A large plume of smoke rose nearby.
“There was a traffic jam and the road was packed with bystanders and cars,” said Abdinur Abdulle, a waiter at a nearby restaurant. “It’s a disaster,” he said sadly.
The blast occurred two days after the head of the U.S. Africa Command was in Mogadishu to meet with Somalia’s president, and two days after the country’s defence minister and army chief resigned for undisclosed reasons.
The U.S. military has stepped up drone strikes and other efforts this year against the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab, which is also fighting the Somali military and over 20,000 African Union forces in the country.

Well.....YES! I have said many times that Muslims currently hold views that render them generally unfit to be Cdn citizens! Is it not sad that Muslims of various groups hate each other even more than they hate westerners?

Our idiot Boy Justin is creating a fantastic mess that will take many generations to clean up! His open invitation to illegals to come to Canada regardless of logic, national security issues or cost will be a thorn in tax payers sides long after the idiot Boy is dead and buried! His vile father Pierre almost buried us in debt that we will be paying off for at least two hundred years- and that is without counting the current debts being incurred by Idiot Boy! Our idiot Boy is just plain wrong! On EVERYTHING!

Here is an article exposing the Trudope family hostility to what father Pierre Trudope called “Cdn Imperialism”. With some comments of my own in brackets):

Trudeau plays dangerous game of identity politics

Joe Oliver, Special to Postmedia Network.
First posted: Monday, July 10, 2017 05:02 PM EDT | Updated: Monday, July 10, 2017 05:18 PM EDT

Here is our Prime Minister’s latest unscripted verbal eruption:

“Anytime I meet people who got to make the deliberate choice, whose parents chose Canada, I’m jealous. Because I think being able to choose it, rather than being Canadian by default, is an amazing statement of attachment to Canada ... This is your country more than it is for others because we take it for granted.”

(IT seems to me that Our idiot Boy is telling us that he thinks immigrants are more loyal to Canada than people who are simply born here. The idiot Boy is telling us that the Syrians and Muslims he has chosen to come- and the illegals he has invited here- are BETTER Cdns than the rest of us! And maybe we should ask if his view is coloured by the fact he is HOPING to buy Muslim votes so he can cling to power at any price? LIE-berals have long sucked up to immigrants regardless of their ability to succeed in Canada- in fact the latest LIE-beral rule changes actually put unskilled world migrants ahead of any other group- by significantly reducing language and education skills!)

Justin Trudeau’s defenders may claim he was merely extending a compliment to immigrants on our 150th anniversary. But it is impossible to ignore his plain words, especially because they are part of a pattern.

First off, millions of Canadians by accident of birth spend their lives contributing to their native land and never take it for granted. Why isn’t Trudeau jealous of them?

Most immigrants face daunting hardships. Many arrive from profoundly different cultures, without a full command of either English or French, little money, unrecognized credentials and no job.

(Sadly- LIE-berals were warned during the Chretien era that third world immigrants sometimes drastically over stated their skills and training- and why not? There is MONEY and better jobs in it for LIARS! And there is the real problem of language- if you have cancer and need treatment- do you want your doctor to be explaining your medical options in broken English- with details being lost or mis-understood? Doctors, engineers and other professional people MUST have proficiency in our language if they are to succeed! And in our very high pressure medical wards- there is already to much opportunity for missed communication- with accidental drug over doses and adverse drug reactions being a MAJOR problem- with poor language skills likely to make the situation WORSE! Immigrants lacking verifiable training to Cdn standards are NOT being discriminated against as LIE-berals would pretend!)

Quite a few escaped persecution, war and poverty and would have fled to any safe haven that accepted them. Most are grateful at the opportunity for a better life in Canada and we are happy they came. But why would those fortunate enough to have been born here be envious?

In contrast to Trudeau’s admiration for newcomers, is his dismissive reference to Canadians “by default” who comprise 80% of the population.

Were the citizen soldiers who stormed Juno Beach less admirable because they were born in the Dominion?

Do our brave men and women in uniform take Canada for granted?

Or the 13 million volunteers?

Do pure laine Québécois, like Trudeau, have a “default” lineage?

Would he dare refer to people as indigenous “by default”?

To ask the questions is to answer them.

Trudeau frequently utters cloying bromides to show off how progressive he is. On occasion, he will jump the shark and venture into a fantasyland inhabited by unicorns and hard-left ideologues.

(The Trudope family exposes its radical socialist and Stalinist roots regularly- with too many Cdns oblivious to the POISON! Pierre Trudope praised Chinese leader Mao “for his genius in rushing 30 million Chinese to the gallows” simply to cement his hold over China! Son Sacha Trudope is an aspiring film maker who cooperates with Iranian Mullahs to make anti Israel and anti Yankee propaganda films! Both Justin and Sacha have praised their “Family friend”- the bloody handed Cuban dictator Castro and spoken of him as very great man! Pierre Trudope has been exposed as a defender of Adolf Hitler- during the time Hitler and vicious Soviet leader Stalin were friendly- with Our Pet going so far as to publicly state “the war against Nazi Germany is British Imperialism”! In his writings- as exposed by Max Nemni in his biography- Our Pet scorned democracy as nonsense and wrote fondly of the virtues and values of various French philosophers who collaborated happily with the Nazi occupiers of France! The vile Trudopes are Not people to look to for any honest defense of democracy, capitalism or civil rights!)

In an unsupervised paroxysm of cultural relativism and multilateralism, Trudeau proclaimed that, “There is no core identity, no mainstream in Canada” and ours is the world’s first post-national state.

(This is apparently Trudeau `speak` meaning he feels entitled to remake the country in any image that suits HIM! And it apparently suits him to support radical Muslims and illegals over ordinary Cdns!)

His most recent outburst is very much in line with that radical multi-cult agenda.

Some people were puzzled, others outraged, by Trudeau's outlandish comments, but most did not seem too bothered.

(I rather suspect that those who “were bothered”, did not have access to the public stage!)

Perhaps we do not take seriously what Trudeau says, but we should when he signals a direction where most Canadians do not want our country to go.

It is one thing to praise diversity. It is another to promote divisiveness.

Trudeau virtue signals admiration for people based on their gender, race, religion, age, sexual orientation and immigrant or indigenous status.

Rather than uniting the country through shared values and interests, he too often erects walls based on identity politics.

(LIE-berals encourage this divisive garbage secure in the knowledge that they are buying votes so they can cling to power!)

While Trudeau advances his progressive nostrums about diversity, there is also a “censorious quietude” on university campuses and in the public square that discourages diversity of opinion.

(One has only to read of the recent battles- reported in Toronto Sun- between Ryerson staff and students seeking social work placements- necessary for graduation from social work courses- at institutions deemed politically incorrect by Ryerson profs seeking to ram their radical views down the throats of Cdn kids! Jewish organizations and mens groups are both scorned by staff and apparently routinely forbidden to students seeking summer placements. Ryerson staff are now on record promoting hatred of men and Jews!)

(When confronted, Ryerson senior staff quietly sent a staffer at the centre of the scandal home on “leave” and got her out of sight. Her replacement has grudgingly offered up a vague series of assurances that students are free to seek placements as suits them- with NO future assurance that a student working at an organization deemed politically unsatisfactory will be accepted as valid work experience! Ryerson staff seem willing to simply be more discreet in their bigotry- without the bother of making honest changes that would be acceptable to ordinary Cdns!)

Indeed, the penalty for deviating from left-wing orthodoxy can be severe, ranging from social shunning to career destruction.

(One example of “career destruction’ would be attending Teachers College and letting it be known that you hold Conservative values! There about 15,000 new teachers graduating ever year- but there are only about 5000 new positions- take 3 guesses whether teacher unions will work happily with those who hold Conservative views! And take another guess whether Hog unions will prefer new hires that are staunchly LIE-beral in their values since it is LIE-berals who are throwing so much gravy at our Hogs? Our education system is being invaded by a grossly selfish political cancer!)

This assault on freedom of expression should concern everyone. Our politicians should defend free speech rather than create more ways to circumscribe it.

When Trudeau blurts out indefensible opinions he is giving us a peak at his hidden agenda. We should take note.

His obsession with identity politics fosters division and conflict, the opposite of what Canadians want and need from a leader.

(LIE-beral efforts to BUY votes and cling to power at any price are bankrupting Canada!)

Somalian truck bomb blast death toll rises to 276
Abdi Guled, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Sunday, October 15, 2017 10:26 AM EDT | Updated: Sunday, October 15, 2017 08:17 PM EDT
MOGADISHU, Somalia — The most powerful bomb blast ever witnessed in Somalia’s capital killed 276 people with around 300 others injured, the country’s information minister said early Monday, making it the deadliest single attack in this Horn of Africa nation. The toll was expected to rise.
In a tweet, Abdirahman Osman called the attack “barbaric” and said countries including Turkey and Kenya had already offered to send medical aid.
Hospitals were overwhelmed a day after a truck bomb targeted a crowded street near key government ministries, including foreign affairs.
As angry protesters gathered near the scene of the attack, Somalia’s government blamed the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab extremist group for what it called a “national disaster.” However, Africa’s deadliest Islamic extremist group, which often targets high-profile areas of the capital, had yet to comment.
Al-Shabab earlier this year vowed to step up attacks after both the Trump administration and Somalia’s recently elected president announced new military efforts against the group.
The Mogadishu bombing is one of the deadliest attacks in sub-Saharan Africa, larger than the Garissa University attack in Kenya in 2015 and the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.
Doctors at Mogadishu hospitals struggled to assist badly wounded victims, many burned beyond recognition. “This is really horrendous, unlike any other time in the past,” said Dr. Mohamed Yusuf, the director of Medina hospital.
Inside, bleary-eyed nurses transported a man whose legs had been blown off. He waited as surgeons attended to another badly injured patient. Exhausted doctors struggled to keep their eyes open, while screams from victims and newly bereaved families echoed through the halls.
“Nearly all of the wounded victims have serious wounds,” said nurse Samir Abdi. “Unspeakable horrors.” The smell of blood was strong.
A teary-eyed Hawo Yusuf looked at her husband’s badly burned body. “He may die waiting,” she said. “We need help.”
Ambulance sirens echoed across the city as bewildered families wandered in the rubble of buildings, looking for missing relatives. “In our 10 year experience as the first responder in #Mogadishu, we haven’t seen anything like this,” the Aamin Ambulance service tweeted.
Grief overwhelmed many.
“There’s nothing I can say. We have lost everything,” wept Zainab Sharif, a mother of four who lost her husband. She sat outside a hospital where he was pronounced dead after hours of efforts by doctors to save him.
The country’s Somali-American leader, President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, declared three days of mourning and joined thousands of people who responded to a desperate plea by hospitals to donate blood. “I am appealing all Somali people to come forward and donate,” he said.
Mogadishu, a city long accustomed to deadly bombings by al-Shabab, was stunned by the force of Saturday’s blast. The explosion shattered hopes of recovery in an impoverished country left fragile by decades of conflict, and it again raised doubts over the government’s ability to secure the seaside city of more than 2 million people.
“They don’t care about the lives of Somali people, mothers, fathers and children,” Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire said of the attackers. “They have targeted the most populated area in Mogadishu, killing only civilians.”
Rescue workers searched for survivors trapped under the rubble of the largely destroyed Safari Hotel, which is close to Somalia’s foreign ministry. The explosion blew off metal gates and blast walls erected outside the hotel.
The United States condemned the bombing, saying “such cowardly attacks reinvigorate the commitment of the United States to assist our Somali and African Union partners to combat the scourge of terrorism.” It tweeted a photo of its charge d’affaires in Somalia donating blood.
But the U.S. Africa Command said U.S. forces had not been asked to provide aid. A spokesman told The Associated Press that first responders and local enforcement would handle the response and “the U.S. would offer assistance if and when a request was made.”
The U.S. military has stepped up drone strikes and other efforts this year against al-Shabab, which is also fighting the Somali military and over 20,000 African Union forces in the country.
The United Nations special envoy to Somalia called the attack “revolting,” saying an unprecedented number of civilians had been killed. Michael Keating said the U.N. and African Union were supporting the Somali government’s response with “logistical support, medical supplies and expertise.”
In a tweet, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was “sickened” by the attack, and his spokesman urged all Somalis to unite against extremism and work together to build a “functional” federal state.
Saturday’s blast occurred two days after the head of the U.S. Africa Command was in Mogadishu to meet with Somalia’s president, and two days after the country’s defence minister and army chief resigned for undisclosed reasons.
Amid the chaos, the stories of victims began to emerge. Amino Ahmed said one of her friends, a female medical student, was killed on the eve of her graduation. The explosion also killed a couple returning from a hospital after having their first child, said Dahir Amin Jesow, a Somali lawmaker.
“It’s a dark day for us,” he said.

Somalian truck bomb blast death toll rises to 276

Is it not sad.....Our idiot Boy Justin thinks he can make it all better by sucking up to some Syrians and sending the others some winter coats? Our idiot Boy wants to engage them in dialogue and find out why they feel so excluded! Can you imagine the GLEE if the idiot Boy actually got close enough to talk to them? They would kick and claw at each other for the privilege of beheading the fool!

Somalia truck bombing death toll rises to over 300 as search for missing continues

MOGADISHU, Somalia — More than 300 people are dead after the truck bombing in Somalia’s capital and scores of others remain missing, authorities said Monday, as the fragile Horn of Africa nation reeled from one of the world’s worst attacks in years.
As funerals continued, the government said the death toll is expected to rise.
Another nearly 400 people are injured, many badly burned, after Saturday’s bombing targeted a crowded street in Mogadishu. Somalia’s government has blamed the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab, Africa’s deadliest Islamic extremist group, which has not commented.
As hospitals and families continued to count the dead, nearly 70 people remained missing, based on accounts from relatives, said police Capt. Mohamed Hussein. He said many bodies were burned to ashes in the attack.
More than 70 critically injured people were airlifted to Turkey for treatment as international aid began to arrive, officials said. Nervous relatives stood on the tarmac at the airport, praying for the recovery of their loved ones.
Overwhelmed hospitals in Mogadishu have struggled to assist other badly wounded victims, many burned beyond recognition. Exhausted doctors struggled to keep their eyes open as the screams from victims or newly bereaved families echoed in the halls.
The attack is one of the deadliest attacks in sub-Saharan Africa, larger than the Garissa University attack in Kenya in 2015, in which 148 died, and the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, in which about 219 were killed.
Countries including Kenya and Ethiopia have offered to send medical aid in response to what Somali’s government has called a “national disaster,” said Information Minister Abdirahman Osman.
A plane carrying a medical team from Djibouti arrived to evacuate others wounded, said Mohamed Ahmed, an official with Somalia’s health ministry. It was the second team of foreign doctors to arrive in Mogadishu.
Al-Shabab, which for more than a decade has waged war in Somalia, often targets high-profile areas of the capital. Earlier this year, it vowed to step up attacks after both the Trump administration and Somalia’s recently elected president announced new military efforts against the group.
The country’s Somali-American leader, President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, has declared three days of mourning and joined thousands of people who responded to a desperate plea by hospitals to donate blood.

'Slap in the face': U.N. Human Rights Council elects Congo, Qatar, Pakistan as rights watchdogs
Edith M. Lederer, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Monday, October 16, 2017 02:34 PM EDT | Updated: Monday, October 16, 2017 05:16 PM EDT
The United States and human rights groups sharply criticized Monday’s U.N. election for 15 new members of the Human Rights Council, singling out conflict-torn Congo’s victory despite accusations of serious rights abuses and an investigation by the U.N.’s top human rights body.
U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley called the election “yet another example of why the Human Rights Council lacks credibility and must be reformed in order to be saved.”
Haley previously dangled the possibility that the United States could quit the council during a visit to its Geneva headquarters in June, when she lambasted the 47-nation body as a “forum for politics, hypocrisy and evasion” that allows rights abusers to whitewash their images and foes of Israel to criticize the Jewish state unfairly.
In a statement after the 193-member General Assembly voted Congo onto the Human Rights Council as part of an uncontested African slate for a three-year term starting Jan. 1, Haley said the rights organization “cannot endure many more blows to its credibility before it is rendered absolutely meaningless.”
Haley called Congo “a country infamous for political suppression, violence against women and children, arbitrary arrest and detention, and unlawful killings and disappearances” and said its unopposed election is another spur to U.S.-led efforts to reform the Human Rights Council.
She made no mention of a U.S. withdrawal from the council. She said in June the United States wants to see two key reforms: the use of competitive elections to choose the council’s 47 members and removal of Israel as a permanent fixture on its agenda — the only country in the world that has a permanent spot.
“Countries that aggressively violate human rights at home should not be in a position to guard the human rights of others,” Haley said. “We need a unified voice of moral clarity with backbone and integrity to call out abusive governments. This election has once again proven that the Human Rights Council, as presently constituted, is not that voice.”
Louis Charbonneau, U.N. director at Human Rights Watch, called Congo’s election “a slap in the face to the many victims of the Congolese government’s grave abuses across the country.”
African countries had four candidates for their continent’s four seats on the council and Congo got the lowest number of votes — 151. But that was still far about the 97 votes needed to win a seat.
The relatively low total shows President Joseph Kabila’s Congo “is fast becoming a pariah state. If there had been competition, it probably would have lost,” Charbonneau said.
Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a Geneva-based rights group, singled out three of the winners — Congo, Qatar and Pakistan — for criticism, saying for the U.N. to elect them “as a world judge on human rights is like making a pyromaniac into the town fire chief.”
The only contested slate was in Asia where six countries vied for four seats. Nepal topped the vote, followed by Qatar and Pakistan. Afghanistan, which got 130 votes, beat out Malaysia by a single vote for the fourth seat. The Maldives also lost.
The other winners in uncontested races were Angola, Nigeria, Senegal, Slovakia, Ukraine, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Australia and Spain.

TDSB Islamic guidebook sparks protests Wednesday
By Sue-Ann Levy, Toronto Sun
First posted: Tuesday, October 17, 2017 08:34 PM EDT | Updated: Tuesday, October 17, 2017 08:44 PM EDT
Dueling protests over a controversial 170-page Islamic Heritage Month guidebook are planned for the Toronto District School board’s North York headquarters Wednesday afternoon.
Jewish Defence League (JDL) head Meir Weinstein said Tuesday they are expecting a “good turnout” — up to 100 people — to protest the guide’s links to radical Islam.
He referred specifically to links to the Islamophobic Research and Documentation project (IRDP) contained in Section 5 under “curriculum study and guides.”
That link includes the following article — Human Rights and Anti-Semitism after GAZA — in which Zionism is identified as “a racist, apartheid, settler colonialist project resorting to ethnic cleansing and Nazi-like atrocities.”
Weinstein said comparing Israel to Nazism, and glorifying Hamas as a political organization (also contained in the links), is not the kind of information that should be taught in the public school system.
A counter demonstration — hosted by the LAEN-Latinx, Afro-Latin-American, Abya Yala Education Network — is scheduled for the same time to support the guidebook.
This group of professional activists was front and centre at the Unity Rally against White Supremacy at Queen’s Park this past Sunday and have been actively trying to get police-operated Student Resource Officers (SROs) out of high schools — not just in Toronto but in the GTA.
Rev. Karen Rodman, the United Church minister who followed me at Sunday’s rally with a Palestinian flag shouting that I was an “evil Zionist,” is also promoting Wednesday’s counter protest on her Facebook page, inviting her followers to come out to say “no Zionism, no Islamophobia, no racism in our city.”
Reached by e-mail Tuesday, Rodman said would not be attending the counter-protest but she’d possibly talk to me Wednesday if she could tape the interview.
The questionable guidebook — which reeks of political correctness gone mad — includes suggested Muslim art projects, movies, books, resource guides, so-called Muslim superheroes (including Liberal politicians) and even lists of suggested Muslim-geared morning announcements for elementary and secondary students, along with special holiday greetings.
It has been the subject of two separate complaints — one from B’nai Brith Canada for its broad definition of Islamophobia (which has since been refined) and the other by the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre (FWSC) Nfor a particular section in the guide promoting the Nation of Islam (which has a documented history of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial).
Calls by FWSC to pull the entire guide until all of the contents can be reviewed were denied.
Efforts to reach TDSB chairman Robin Pilkey Tuesday — who has also written a letter to the city’s public works committee on board letterhead praising the Bloor St. bike lanes (which pass through her ward)— were unsuccessful.
But just before press time, spokesman Ryan Bird issued a statement noting that after the above-noted linked article was brought to their attention by the community, staff reviewed the article and found that some of the words and comments used were “hurtful and inflammatory.
“In light of these concerns, we will be removing the website link (to IRDP) from the Resource Guide,” he said.
He didn’t say how that would be done now that the guides are in every school and the month is half over.

Group protests Toronto District School Board's Islamic Heritage Month guide
By Sue-Ann Levy, Toronto Sun
First posted: Wednesday, October 18, 2017 08:50 PM EDT | Updated: Wednesday, October 18, 2017 09:03 PM EDT
It was a beautiful day for a protest.
However, only a few dozen people turned up to the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) headquarters Wednesday afternoon to express their concerns about the controversial 170-page Islamic Heritage Month guide.
While a handful of counter-protesters (in favour of the guide) looked on, Jewish Defence League (JDL) head Meir Weinstein said after they exposed that the manual had links to articles about radical Islam — one in particular from the Islamophobic Research and Documentation Project (IRDP) that compared Zionism to Nazi-like atrocities — TDSB officials agreed to remove them.
“That chapter provides incitement and is extremely disturbing,” he said, calling for the entire guidebook to be trashed.
Weinstein said the guide also features speakers which call for an Intifada in North America.
The online guide, which cost $6,000 to design and produce, according to TDSB spokesman Ryan Bird, has not been “distributed within the system.”
Bird assured me Wednesday the electronic copy is being “updated” to remove the offensive link.
He said the cast of teachers identified in the manual worked “during evenings, weekend and during the summer” to produce the guide — including equity and anti-oppression superintendent Jeewan Chanicka, who was one of the organizers of Sunday’s Rally against White Supremacy.
(According to Bird, many TDSB staff members have causes, organizations and social justice issues they “invest their personal time in” and Chanicka was not at the rally as a TDSB representative).
Counter-protester Andrea Vasquez-Jimenez, co-chairman of the LAEN, Latinx, Afro-Latin-American, Abya Yala Education Network, said they definitely support both Jewish and Muslim heritages — that they are not “mutually exclusive.”
She said there’s lots of collaboration between Jewish and Muslim organizations here in Toronto.
“We’re just trying to show it’s not one or another ... the TDSB is not anti-Semitic,” she said, noting they’re putting together their own resource guide in honour of Latin-American history month next April for teachers and youth.
Avi Benlolo, CEO of the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre (FWSC), issued a statement Wednesday saying that following in-depth conversations, school board officials agreed not just to remove the link to anti-Semitic material but continue to review the guidebook to ensure compliance with the TDSB’s principles of equity.
Benlolo said in his statement that FWSC is launching its own resource guide for Jewish Heritage Month in May (that can be used by school boards across Canada.)

Some fears of Islam justified, human rights lawyer tells M103 committee
By Anthony Furey, Postmedia Network

A celebrated Canadian human rights lawyer urged MPs to be careful in their use of the term Islamophobia, saying “fear of some elements of Islam is mere prudence.”
David Matas, an Order of Canada recipient who began his career as a clerk for the Chief Justice of Canada in the 1960s, delivered testimony Wednesday before the M-103 committee hearings in his capacity as senior counsel to B’nai Brith Canada.
“Not every fear of Islam is Islamophobia,” Matas said to the House of Commons Heritage Committee, noting that anyone who is not afraid of the various radical Islamic terrorist outfits in the world is “foolhardy”.
“Islamophobia does not appear in a vacuum,” Matas told MPs. “It grows out of a fear of incitement and acts of hatred and terrorism coming from elements of the Islamic community.”
The Winnipeg-based lawyer, who ran for office years ago as a Liberal, recommended the committee take a “dual focus” approach on both those victimized by Islamophobia and those within the Islamic community inciting hatred and terrorism.
Following Matas’ testimony, Shimon Fogel, CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, urged the committee to aim towards a more precise definition of Islamophobia.
M-103 was nominally designed to denounce, and study, all forms of racism and discrimination, but has faced extensive controversy for singling out Islam.
Fogel pointed to a Toronto District School Board booklet’s definition of Islamophobia that included mere dislike of political Islam as worthy of censure.
“This incident exposes significant problems with relying on ad hoc, inadequate definitions of Islamophobia,” said Fogel.
On Monday, Muslim author and Sun columnist Farzana Hassan told the committee her concerns about how the term is used in other countries to suppress criticism from within the faith.

Ottawa man not guilty of sexual assault because he thought he could have sex with wife anytime
Andrew Duffy
First posted: Thursday, October 19, 2017 04:54 PM EDT | Updated: Thursday, October 19, 2017 05:25 PM EDT
An Ottawa man has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting his wife because of his honest belief that he had the right to have intercourse with her whenever he wanted.
In a written ruling, Ontario Superior Court Justice Robert Smith said the Crown failed to prove that the accused had formed the required criminal intent — mens rea — to sexually assault his wife in 2002.
“I find that the accused probably had sex with his wife on many occasions without her specific consent, as both he and she believed that he had the right to do so,” Smith said.
However, the judge ruled the man was not guilty of sexual assault because the Crown had failed to establish that he knew his behaviour was, in fact, criminal.
The decision, issued earlier this week, followed a five-day trial in June.
The man was part of an arranged marriage in Gaza. His wife, a Palestinian who grew up in Kuwait, lived in Ottawa and the family settled in this city.
She testified that during their marriage, she considered it her obligation to have sex with her husband. Often, she told court, she did not consent, but they both believed it was his right.
The couple separated in January 2013, but they had difficultly making child arrangements work.
Court heard that it was during a dispute over child access — after speaking to a police officer — that the woman came to understand she had the right to refuse sexual relations with her husband. She subsequently complained to Ottawa police about a 2002 incident.
The husband denied ever having sexual relations with his wife without her consent, and specifically denied the incident that led to the charges.
His wife alleged that, in 2002, he grabbed her by the wrist, pulled her onto the couch, pulled down her pants and had sex with her even though she asked him three times to stop.
The judge said she was a credible witness who gave straightforward answers.
Court heard that at the time, in 2002, the husband had undergone a hair transplant. His doctor, he testified, had told him to abstain from sex for two weeks after the surgical procedure. He told court the alleged incident could not have happened because he had followed that advice.
“The accused did not call any medical evidence to show this was standard medical practice,” the judge said, “and I find his evidence in this regard does not accord with common sense to a reasonably informed person.”
Smith said the man was argumentative and evasive as a witness, and he rejected his account as not believable.
Nevertheless, the judge said he could not find him guilty of a crime.
“Marriage is not a shield for sexual assault,” Smith wrote in his decision. “However, the issue in this trial is whether, considering the whole of the evidence, the Crown has proven the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The man’s defence lawyer, Sean May, said the timing of the charges — they came to light during a combative phase in the relationship — also raised doubt in the case.
Carrolyn Johnston, acting executive director of the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women, called the ruling “disappointing.” She said it highlights persistent myths about sexual assault.
“Any sexual contact without explicit and ongoing consent is sexual assault — regardless of the relationship,” Johnston said. “He may have believed that he had a right to have sex with her as her husband, but Canadian sexual assault law is clear and was amended to include sexual assault against a spouse in 1983.”
The Ottawa coalition, the Sexual Assault Network and the city’s rape crisis centres are now engaged in public education campaigns, she said, to ensure that consent laws are better understood.
The province’s revised sex education curriculum, introduced in 2005, teaches students about the importance of consent. Students are first introduced to the concept in Grade 7.

Cleveland monster who wanted 'respect' sentenced for shooting daughter in face, head

CLEVELAND — A suburban Cleveland man has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his daughter while she slept, saying he believed she disrespected his rules by coming home late and not cleaning her room.
Jamal Mansour, of Rocky River, pleaded guilty Tuesday to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault and has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.
The 64-year-old dad earlier pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder in 27-year-old Tahani Mansour’s death last year.
Cleveland OH Local News, Breaking News, Sports & Weather - cleveland.com reports Mansour says he believed his daughter didn’t respect his house rules.
In 2012, Mansour allegedly threatened to kill himself because one of his kids was on a business trip to Las Vegas, according to Cleveland OH Local News, Breaking News, Sports & Weather - cleveland.com.
Prosecutors said Tahani and her father had a number of disagreements before her death.
She worked to keep her relationship with a non-Muslim man secret out of fear her father would retaliate.
WJW reports defence attorney Angelo Lonardo said the shooting followed a fight over the daughter’s room being a mess.
Prosecutors say Mansour told investigators he grabbed a gun, thinking she would “respect” that.
Mansour cried and apologized, saying he wishes he were the one dead.

Dalhousie student faces disciplinary action for 'targeting white people' in Facebook post
SIMONA CHIOSE
October 19 at 7:17 PM MT
A student at Dalhousie University is facing disciplinary action for a Facebook post she wrote about Canada 150 celebrations, after another student complained that her post discriminated against white people on the basis of skin colour and ancestry.
Masuma Khan, a vice-president of the Dalhousie Student Union, wrote the post on June 30, in response to another post by the Nova Scotia Young Progressive Conservatives (NSYPC). The NSYPC message criticized a motion by the student union not to participate in Canada 150 celebrations on July 1 and to label such events "an act of colonialism."
The student union "should prioritize advocating for student issues, not attacking Canada," the Conservatives' message said.

"At this point, f*** you all," Ms. Khan responded. "I stand by the motion I put forward. I stand by Indigenous students. … Be proud of this country? For what, over 400 years of genocide?" She signed off with the hashtags #unlearn150, #whitefragilitycankissmyass and #yourwhitetearsarentsacredthislandis.
On July 5, Michael Smith, a graduate student in history, filed a written complaint about Ms. Khan's Facebook comments, alleging that "targeting 'white people' who celebrate Canada Day is blatant discrimination."
Mr. Smith then wrote an op-ed for the National Post newspaper about the debate at Dalhousie and Ms. Khan's comments. He did not disclose that he had filed a complaint with the university.

After the piece came out, Ms. Khan was the target of social-media comments telling her to "pack her bags."
"I was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They could tell me to go back but I would still be here," Ms. Khan said in an interview.
The idea that she was engaging in reverse racism against white people is ridiculous, Ms. Khan added.
"I don't see my actions as targeting someone, or white folks," she said. "White people can go through discrimination but not racism. Reverse racism does not exist because I would never have the power to oppress someone the way the system can oppress marginalized people."
After conducting an investigation, Dalhousie's vice-provost of student affairs, Arig al Shaibah, concluded that Ms. Khan violated its code of student conduct which prohibits "unwelcome or persistent conduct that the student knows, or ought to know, would cause another person to feel demeaned, intimidated or harassed."
"The choice of language and tone used in the Facebook post … was very concerning," the university said in its submission to the discipline committee, a copy of which was obtained by The Globe and Mail. Beginning "a post that addresses peers … with expletives … cannot be defended as merely passion for social justice."
It is "understandable that the Complainant who identified as White (among other identities) disclosed feeling targeted on the basis of their White identity," the university's statement said.
If Ms. Khan had agreed to attend counselling sessions on leadership and coalition building, the complaint would have been resolved informally.
But Ms. Khan said she did nothing wrong and wants to defend herself. In the past, her extensive campus activism has been celebrated by the university, which republished a local media profile of her on its website.
Her post was not polite and contained profanity, Ms. Khan has acknowledged. But it was provoked by frustration at the debate that had occurred around the original student-union motion and her experience of becoming the target of personal harassment when she defends racialized groups or Indigenous students.
"I see it as my right to express my views publicly in whatever manner I choose within the limits of free speech," Ms. Khan wrote in her response to the university's investigation.
Ms. Khan is defending herself with the help of Halifax law firm Nijhawan McMillan Barristers, which has taken on the case pro bono. The university has no jurisdiction to police its students' speech when that speech does not harm other students, lawyer Nasha Nijhawan said in an interview.
"I don't think it's the position of a university to tell its students, or even its student leaders, what are acceptable forms of protest. It's particularly offensive to me to say to a brown woman 'You can talk about racism as long as you don't disturb the status quo. You should just settle down a little bit, you're bothering people.'"
A hearing on the case is expected to be scheduled for later on this fall.
The university could not comment on the specifics of the case. It is the "university's established practice to respect the privacy and confidentiality of current and former students," a Dalhousie spokesperson said in a statement.
The debate at Dalhousie occurred against the backdrop of a national conversation about whether Canada was erasing the unequal and exploitative history of its relationship with Indigenous people in celebrating the 150th anniversary of Confederation. "I could list a thousand reasons why celebrating Canada 150 hurts and why it is just a magnified and compounded example of what every single day feels like," wrote Romeo Saganash, a residential school survivor and NDP MP in a commentary. Dalhousie joined student unions at Ryerson and Algoma universities among others in refusing to mark the date.
The motion was largely symbolic as the student-union building was closed for the July 1 holiday.
Ms. Khan introduced the motion at the student union after talking with Indigenous students on campus. The decision not to participate in Canada 150 celebrations was supported by all but three of the student representatives attending.

MOGADISHU, Somalia — The death toll in Somalia’s deadliest attack has risen to 358 while dozens remain missing. Somalia’s president was expected to announce a “state of war” against the al-Shabab extremist group blamed for the bombing, the prime minister said.
The United States is expected to play a supporting role in the new offensive planned by President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, a Somali military official told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.
The president’s emergency speech to lawmakers was postponed Saturday to a yet-unknown time.
Somalia’s army spokesman Capt. Abdullahi Iman said the offensive involving thousands of troops will try to push al-Shabab fighters out of their strongholds in the Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle regions where many deadly attacks on Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, and on Somali and African Union bases have been launched.
The extremist group has not commented on the Oct. 14 truck bombing in Mogadishu, which Somali intelligence officials have said was meant to target the city’s heavily fortified international airport where many countries have their embassies. The massive bomb, which security officials said weighed between 600 kilograms and 800 kilograms (1,300 pounds and 1,700 pounds), instead detonated in a crowded street after soldiers opened fire and flattened one of the truck’s tires.
Somalia’s information minister Abdirahman Osman said late Friday that 56 were people still missing. Another 228 people were wounded, and 122 had been airlifted for treatment in Turkey, Sudan and Kenya.
“This pain will last for years,” said a sheikh leading Friday prayers at the bombing site, as long lines of mourners stood in front of flattened or tangled buildings.
Since the election of the country’s Somali-American president in February, the government has announced a number of military offensives against al-Shabab, Africa’s deadliest Islamic extremist group, only to end them weeks later with no explanation. Experts believe that has given the extremists breathing space and emboldened them in their guerrilla attacks.
Iman, Somalia’s army spokesman, told the AP that troops recaptured three towns in Lower Shabelle region from al-Shabab on Friday in preparation for the new offensive.
Somali officials did not give details on what role the U.S. military might play.
The U.S. has stepped up military involvement in the long-fractured Horn of Africa nation since President Donald Trump approved expanded operations against the group early this year. The U.S. has carried out at least 19 drone strikes in Somalia since January, according to The Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
The latest U.S. drone strike occurred Monday about 35 miles (56 kilometres) southwest of the capital, the U.S. Africa Command told the AP. It said it was still assessing the results.
Earlier this week, in response to questions about the massive truck bombing, a Pentagon spokesman said the United States has about 400 troops in Somalia and “we’re not going to speculate” about sending more.
In April, the U.S. announced it was sending dozens of regular troops to Somalia in the largest such deployment to the country in roughly two decades. The U.S. said it was for logistics training of Somalia’s army and that about 40 troops were taking part.
Weeks later, a service member was killed during an operation against al-Shabab. He was the first American to die in combat in Somalia since 1993.

Death threats for refusing to hate Israel

Just a few years ago, Yahya Mohamid was living in a northern Israeli town controlled by the Islamic movement and like everyone else in Umm el-Fahm, had been indoctrinated to hate Israel.
Today, the 20-year-old, calling himself a Muslim Zionist, has made his home in Jerusalem and is dedicated to getting the truth out about his life as an Arab Israeli and giving back to his country.
He hopes to join the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in March and get into one of the elite combat units — a precedent for an Arab Israeli.
But Mohamid’s pro-Israel activism has come at a huge price.
The brave, articulate, handsome man — who seems wise beyond his years — has been subject to assaults, more death threats than he can count and has been forced to break ties with his mother and sister, both of whom still live in Umm el-Fahm.
“They live in a constant situation of fear,” he says.
Mohamid — in Canada this week on behalf of the StandWithUs advocacy organization to speak to audiences in synagogues, high schools and at university campuses — told me over coffee that growing up in his town was like living in an “isolated bubble world.”
The Islamic movement, which was labelled a terrorist organization in 2015, has controlled the town for 30 years, he says.
They control how the municipality operates, what is taught in the schools and who gets hired for any public service jobs, he says, adding that nepotism and corruption is rampant.
On TV, in the streets and at school, he was fed a steady diet of anti-Israeli rhetoric — so much so that it became like “white noise.” He says there is graffiti containing swastikas, Hamas and ISIS signs near to or on government buildings in town, which is never removed.
“Demonization (of Israel) is a big thing ... we get little to no lessons about the Jewish connection to the land (we’re on) or what the Nazis did (during the Holocaust),” he recalls.
He adds that all of classes were taught in Arabic — done deliberately to help keep the community isolated and ignorant — and he learned all of his impeccable English from TV.
His whole word “flipped upside down” when he got a job at age 17 as a busboy in a hotel in Tel Aviv, about a one-hour drive from his town, he says.
Although he’d been taught to be “afraid of Jews,” when he started interacting with Jewish people at the hotel, he soon realized he’d been “misled.”
“I realized there were two sides to this ... it’s not black and white,” he said. “It was an eye-opener.”
It was only a matter of months before he became an activist.
In June 2014, when three Israeli teens were abducted (and before they were found dead under a pile of rocks in the West Bank), Mohamid joined the campaign to bring them back, posing with an Israeli flag on Facebook.
Even though, as he puts it, “all hell broke loose” in his town and he was subjected to numerous death threats, he still insisted on staying in the town because he realized “another voice was needed.”
Throughout the 50-day war that ensued that summer, he was online 24/7 “offering another voice on social media” whenever propaganda circled the town about Israel and the conflict.
“The propaganda was just ridiculous,” he says. “They were attacking Israel 24/7 saying they were killing babies and killing civilians.”
He said throughout his contact with people in his town — and only on Facebook — they’d often approach him thinking they had the “moral high ground,” only to be “shocked” when he presented the facts.
“With Arabs it’s very different than other communities,” he said. “Because they don’t’ have any Israeli education, most Arabs are still a blank page so to speak ... They want to know more.”
But he was forced to leave his town permanently six months ago when he did a video for StandWithUs indicating his desire to serve with the IDF.
The video was posted online at 1 p.m., and by 5 p.m., he got a call from the police telling him to pack some clothes and leave for good because the situation had become too explosive.
“They (people in the town) planted bombs close to my vehicle,” he said. “It’s not your everyday campus activism ... it’s putting your life on the line activism.”
Speaking of the rise of anti-Semitism and pro-Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movements on campuses around North America, he believes BDS activists are mostly under 25, and have joined the cause — with no idea of what they’re doing — because it’s just “a cool thing to do on campus.” (His speaking engagement at Ryerson was cancelled last week due to lack of security.)
Asked what he says to anti-Israel activists screaming and shouting about the Palestinian plight, Mohamid responds: “I say first of all come visit Israel and be open to dialogue.
“I guarantee these people have absolutely no idea what’s going on in the West Bank, little or no connections with Palestinians and no idea about the reality of the situation.”
— Mohamid will be speaking in Winnipeg at Shaarey Zedek synagogue at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and in Vancouver at Congregation Beth Israel at 9: 30 a.m. on Saturday.

Was he an Israel collaborator?? Seem the one that was the son of a Hamas member is welcomed with open arms, as long as he lives in North America and makes lots of speeches in support of Israel.

What better place to spew PR for Israel while demonizing all Muslims.

I’m going to highlight two troubling examples of this, both covered by Israeli paper Haaretz. The first relates to Kansas.
From the article, In America, the Right to Boycott Israel Is Under Threat:
The First Amendment squarely protects the right to boycott. Lately, though, a legislative assault on that right has been spreading through the United States – designed to stamp out constitutionally protected boycotts of Israel…
Over the past several years, state and federal legislatures have considered dozens of bills, and in some cases passed laws, in direct violation of this important ruling. These bills and laws vary in numerous respects, but they share a common goal of scaring people away people from participating in boycotts meant to protest Israeli government policies, including what are known as Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns.
Today, the ACLU filed a lawsuit challenging one of those laws — a Kansas statute requiring state contractors to sign a statement certifying that they do not boycott Israel, including boycotts of companies profiting off settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
We are representing a veteran math teacher and trainer from Kansas who was told she would need to sign the certification statement in order to participate in a state program training other math teachers. Our client is a member of the Mennonite Church USA. In response to calls for boycott by the church and members of her congregation, she has decided not to buy consumer goods and services offered by Israeli companies and international companies operating in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. Our client is boycotting to protest the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians and to pressure the government to change its policies.
Earlier this year, our client was selected to participate as a contractor in a statewide training program run by the Kansas Department of Education. She was excited to use her skills to help train math teachers throughout the state, but when she was presented with a form requiring her to certify that she “is not currently engaged in a boycott of Israel,” she told the state that she could not sign the form in good conscience. As a result, the state refuses to let her participate in the program.
Kansas’s law, and others like it, violates the Constitution. The First Amendment prohibits the government from suppressing one side of a public debate. That means it cannot impose ideological litmus tests or loyalty oaths as a condition on hiring or contracting.
If this was the only example of such behavior, I suppose we could dismiss it as a one-off, misguided directive. Unfortunately, this sort of thing is far more common than any of us would like to admit.
Here’s another recent example, from the article, Houston Suburb Won’t Give Hurricane Relief to Anyone Who Boycotts Israel:
A Houston suburb will not approve grants to repair homes or businesses damaged in Hurricane Harvey if the applicant supports boycotting Israel.
The city of Dickinson’s application form for storm damage repair funding includes a clause stating that “By executing this Agreement below, the Applicant verifies that the Applicant: (1) does not boycott Israel; and (2) will not boycott Israel during the term of this Agreement.”
No other clauses about political affiliations or beliefs are included in the form.
The state of Texas passed a law in May banning state entities from contracting with businesses that boycott Israel. The law, one of 21 passed in states around the country in the past few years, has been criticized by the American Civil Liberties Union as unconstitutional.

Really like it is the Arab's fault they are behind in education, in Libya they all would have had university education, perhaps even at a university no dominated by Jewish control. All the citizens in Libya has that level and they didn't turn anti Israel because of it. Talk about a good example of the control the Jews want over Arabs. It is no different in the rest of the world. Try getting ahead in North America without any Jewish support.

Yes- poor sad Arabs- they just cannot get ANYTHING RIGHT! Soldiers of other nations drop bombs from planes or firte artillery- Arabs strap on suicide belts -indirectly telling the world of Arab technical prowess!

And Our idiot Boy Justin supports these mentally diseased radicals over Cds and genuine friends of Cdns! Consider:

Here is an article illustrating the very selective concern Our idiot Boy Justin and his LIE-beral party have for Cdns. With some comments of my own in brackets):

Trudeau keen to help Khadr, not him: Afghan refugee

By Joe Warmington, Toronto Sun

Alam Khan was born in Afghanistan and chose to work with the Canadians as an interpreter. He said the Canadian government hasn't responded with help, despite him working alongside Canadians in Afghanistan, instead paying out Omar Khadr.

The tale of two 30-year-olds who were on the battlefield of Afghanistan has two very different results. One hit the jackpot. The other, the skids.

Omar Khadr was born in Canada and chose to join his father and friend to fight against the Canadians and their allies.

(It is a shame and LIE-berals DISGRACE that any Khadr should be in Canada at all! The father of Omar Khadr was languishing in an Italian jail after being convicted of terrorist bomb making- when LIE-beral Chretien suffered a brain cramp and invited the Italians to let papa Khadr IMMIGRATE to Canada- where he got married to another Jihadist jerk and had 3 kids with her. What in HELL Chretien was thinking when the invitation to papa Khadr was extended is anybodies guess- but we can be sure it probably involved winning ethnic voters to his side!)

Alam Khan was born in Afghanistan and chose to work with the Canadians as an interpreter.

Khadr is now a multi-millionaire living in Edmonton with a cheque written to him bigger than Oiler Connor McDavid’s signing bonus.

Khan is sleeping outside and eating garbage, trying to survive on the mean streets of Istanbul, Turkey, as a refugee running away from the Taliban and ISIS.

It’s some unfair cards dealt that it’s now Khadr, who killed an American medic, getting an apology and a cheque for more than $10-million.

(And odious Omar spent time in country- making bombs used by other Taliban and al Qaida members to kill western soldiers- perhaps even Cdns! And he gets 10 million from LIE-berals for this?)

“About that, sir, I am really confused,” said Khan.

He, after all, can’t even get a reply out the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government in his request to immigrate to Canada.

(Well of course not! Why would Our idiot Boy want to do ANYTHING for some goof who supported and aided what Pierre Trudope referred to as “Cdn Imperialism”? The Trudope clan has a long history of fawning over dictators and despots!)

If only he and his pals knew how lucrative it could have been a terrorist in Afghanistan instead of helping our side.

“Just for $600 monthly, I destroyed my life,” said Khan. “I am really disappointed. Why doesn’t the Canadian government respect humanity? This is morally wrong.”

(At least we know the guy can speak English and will not have language troubles when trying to integrate into Canada- UNLIKE most of the tens of thousands of illegals that Our idiot Boy is fawning over like some sort of mad cat lady collecting strays!)

He’s still proud of working with he Canadian troops and would do it again. But he can’t understand why Canada would abandon he and dozens of others who wore the Canadian flag patch on their uniform while being so generous to a guy who was trying to kill them.

(Western powers are trying to build Afghanistan into a democracy so why sabotage those who are most loyal to that concept? After all, Taliban is hugely HOSTILE to women`s rights and Our idiot Boy is working to destroy NAFTA if Yankees do not give in to his views on women`s rights? Any study of LIE-beral policy requires a strong stomach and the ability to spin in circles without getting sick!)

It’s not adding up for Khan.

Now, his wife and two kids are hidden in Afghanistan from the Taliban, who has threatened to kill them. He escaped to Turkey, hoping that letters written to Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen by Tory MP Erin O’Toole were going to help get him to Canada.

Instead, he gets nothing but silence. It seems every request or suggestion falls on deaf ears.

(And LIE-beral minister Ahmed Hussen is himself a former Somali refugee who now seems less than happy about helping an Afghan who AIDED Cdns in that country? LIE-beral values are ODIOUS ONES!)

Needless to say, he was devastated to hear of the royal treatment Khadr has received while he is being treated like the enemy.

It’s pretty disgusting.

Khan said he never would have envisioned Canada would be better to the enemy combatants and terrorists than the local Afghans like he and his friends who turned away from terror and personal threats in order to work the Canadians instead.

jwarmington at postmedia

(Somebody ought to tell the poor guy that a lot of Cdns are just as disgusted and puzzled! And that he might get some help in 2019 after the next federal election- the one that Our idiot Boy may not do well in now that his sunny ways are turning to idiot nonsense!)
