Hollywood takes a knee: The best reaction to Donald Trump's attack on NFL player protests

Even people who couldn't care less about pro football may be tuning into Sunday's games after President Trump went after NFL players who protest racial injustice by taking a knee during the national anthem.

During an appearance on behalf of U.S. Senate candidate Luther Strange, who is running for the seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Trump argued that protests like that of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick are harming the game more than chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the degenerative brain disease recently diagnosed in former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernadez, who killed himself in prison where he had been serving a murder sentence.

"You know what’s hurting the game more than that?" he asked the audience in one of the most ardently football-loving states in the country. "When people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem. The only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium, I guarantee things will stop. Things will stop. Just pick up and leave. Pick up and leave. Not the same game anymore anyway.”

Trump didn't stop there, calling on team owners to sumarily fire players who do it: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a (expletive) off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired!'”

Unsurprisingly, Hollywood had some thoughts on the subject. Here are a few of the standouts:

'It has nothing to do with football or business'

Sean "Diddy" Combs, whose son played college football at UCLA, addressed NFL players in a video: "You all have a chance to do something really, really, really, really great tomorrow. If you all do whatever you do in unity, you can't be stopped. Just do the math, man. Do the math. Stick together, stand up for each other. Ride with each other. Because, believe me, we're all we got. It has nothing to do with football or business. You're our stars. You gotta represent us. You're our strong heroes. Show that strength, please."

Oh, of course. Tomorrow is Football Day in America, with games at 9:30 EDT (Ravens and Jaguars in London), 13:00 EDT, 4:30 EDT, and 8:00 EDT. I predict record numbers kneeling.

Nothing like President Drunkuncle to give a protest wings.

Funny they can't seem to get fans at the football games this year and some teams are starting to worry
;)
go figure eh?

"Rams tickets were $6 and still nobody turned up to see them play in Los Angeles
A picture of the Rams' empty stadium is worth a thousand words."

Though I guess, considering my company on this thread, I should have gone with the picture...
:)
So, here you go Boomer:

Taking a knee in protest. What a bunch of sub-moronic losers. Taking a knee is symbolic of subservience. It's also a real wimpy play in football.

Yea, that sounds like something a dotard would say.
Um, it is symbolic of subservience ya tard. And the taking a knee bullshit is a wimpy play in football. Canadians don't play with that girlie rule.
And uh, I've been watching the CFL since long before I had a clue Trump even existed. Sorry if I offend your super delicate sensitivities. Not really, that was sarcasm.

What would Jesse Owens say?

"Find the good. It's all around you. Find it, showcase it and you'll start believing it." - Jesse Owens

"We all have dreams. In order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline and effort. - Jesse Owens.

I notice you didn't disagree with him about kneeling

I notice they prefer not to work for the usual trinkets, the white man's money would be fine.
It's so funny most of the traders of slaves in Africa were of course black, as well as were owners of slaves in America..like the Cherokee were.

But now they are all debt slaves to central bankers.
:)

It's all fake news. Nobody ever protested, nobody takes a knee, and the games don't even happen.

Step away from the pipe
;)
there is a nambla plumber with butt crack at the other end.

The NFL does need the boost of the extra people watching. Ratings have been down. Funny thing was, the networks had pretty much cut out the anthems from TV coverage (aside from playoffs) in order to squeeze in a couple more commercials. Wonder if they will start covering them live again?

As an aside, it is amazing how many people who hate football seem to have an opinion on the career of a sub-par backup QB who does not have a job and seem to be caring about the fate of the NFL.

No funnier than the people who shriek "The Qu'ran says this or that" when they ain't read it and don't understand it.

Ya don't rouse the rabble with logical, reasoned statements.

Thank you for telling black America what their symbols mean. What did they ever do without your wisdom?
Taking a knee is NOT their symbol. It has been symbolic of surrender and servitude for far longer than Black people have lived in the US and for far longer than the US has been a country. Maybe Black America should stop appropriating other cultures' symbolism. The traditional pose for christian prayer is to get on your knees thereby symbolizing one's submission to god. Muslims completely prostrate themselves in submission to allah.
When one is knighted, one takes a knee demonstrating their servitude to the King or Queen. Even in football it's an act of surrender, so to speak.

But hey, if Black people want to demonstrate their submission or subservience to the US, it IS a free country after all.

Taking a knee against the American flag (and that's what they are doing) is really stupid, and done by really stupid people.

Trump was elected by the American people. If these losers don't like democracy, they can leave.

Speaking of democracy, it's funny how all the vote fraud found so far was for Hitlary
( Like Wisconsin, where when the introduced foto ID, Trump got about the same votes as Romney did, but hillary's count dropped by something like a quarter million votes.)

Yeah, everyone has a choice. Life in North Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya or Syria or anywhere in AFRICA would be good for them.
