Re: General Leslie Moving Expenses

Morality is fluid. Your idea of what is "moral", I bet, is different than mine.

Taking advantage of a job "perk" that you are legally entitled to does not enter into a "moral" discussion.
So gerryh lets all rape the treasury good idea .

and who are YOU to say what is and isn't a proper "perk"?

What I have found in my life, is that those that complain about the "perks" that others have, are those that don't have or can't get those particular perks.
What I have found in life is that those who take advantage of their perks encourage others to abuse their perks .

Yep.

Having gone from bottom to top is no guarantee that you can manage properly.
BTW, I stopped short of being the "manager" because I wouldn't be doing what I liked. I already said that I would not like being a desk jockey, don't like the job politics, and whatnot and that is why I stopped at being an LT. There's no way I would have been allowed to do the stuff I liked doing which was fighting fires and helping people out. Not everyone wants to become a statistic in the Peter Principle. So I don't think your suggestion is that good of one.

And becoming a manager after you've reached your dream job (which was your suggestion) is what, if not greedy?
yup so instead of biting the bullet you let some incompetent take your place .

Real estate fees are starting to come down. Some only charge 3%.

I think it includes criticism of others for something one does him/herself. I think we need to focus on the bigger picture than the individual involved. Government spending at all levels in Canada is a problem, so much so that those in direst need can't get help for the basic essentials of life. Cutting has to start somewhere and my opinion is this is a good place to start. Officials trips around the country and the world with a huge entourage is another one.

Just my humble opinion but I think $72,000 is far beyond the pale and as taxpayers are footing the bill, like any other Gov't. costs it should be transparent.
Yup start at the top of all departments and all crown corporations .

Quoting: "Each step of the process is overseen by a third-party supplier, and independent approvals for every expenditure are required, as directed by the Treasury Board of Canada. Costs are paid directly to the suppliers (real estate agents, movers etc.) by the Department of National Defence."Former general Andrew Leslie accuses Tories of smear over moving expenses - Politics - CBC News
General submits expense claim , hmmn will you refuse your General ?

Yep. That happens now n then. Fortunately, some people have a sense of integrity and some self-respect.
Most start that way .

Where's the rape? This has been a part of the armed forces pay schedule for quite some time. If you don't like it, then get a hold of your MP and demand change.

What I have found in life is that those who take advantage of their perks encourage others to abuse their perks .

I've also found that those that are the most concerned about others being thieves and distrust everyone are the ones who are in fact the thieves and should not be trusted.

Life's a bitch and I don't regret my wisdom in passing up the job. And actually, the dude that went on ahead instead of me is a pretty good, hard-working fella and he did a good job, but he recognized that he wasn't happy at it and developed health issues. He retired. Howie is happy again. :) The last fella I worked under was driven to drink by the job.

The fundamental problem is the entire pay structure for the elite is getting way out of hand. We hear the old adage almost daily about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer but who is doing anything about it? It has to be up to the guys in the middle. In the old days people worked and got a wage and weekends off, pretty soon they got annual holidays and then along came U.I.C. and sick days, and compassionate days and later on maternity leave, and education leave and stress leave and time off work to vote, even though the polls stay open for 12 hours, meanwhile the wage slave works for wages and 4% holiday pay and he's the poor bastard that pays for a lot of this.

So gerryh lets all rape the treasury good idea .

Good to see some sanity getting injected into the thread! -:)

Ever heard of the golden rule? "Whomever has the gold makes the rules". Ever tried playing poker when the deck is stacked, the cards are marked, and you are double-dealt?

Yep, but whomever has the gold got it from someone else and that is where we have to put a block in the system. (Marie Antoinette found that out the hard way) -:)

Well, I'm relieved to hear that, I was getting the idea that you consider Stephan Harper to be a little larcenous. -:) My apologies!

Good luck. You'll need it, and more.

One day the system will break down. Just takes enough people going on a rampage and committing mayhem. (Think of Stanley Cup day in Vancouver and then think what could happen when a problem occurs.)

Leslie comes from a very wealthy family and many have served the Govt- As Soldiers and his Grandfather as a General in the Artillery and later as Minister of Defense.

The sadder part is apparently this is all within the rules and limits for this expenses. I agree with Machjo.
Hell I am sure we would be outraged if we saw all the legal privileges these people have.

And they set these privileges for themselves.

Re: General Leslie Moving Expenses

To be fair though, if everything was kosher, then should the government not review the rules on this?

This was leaked as he is part of the Hairdos team and in all probability running in the next election. Just a piss poor smear by Nicholson. An FFn idiot.

Check and see how many Generals retired over the past 5 to 8 years. How many had their expenses leaked- the number of generals who had info leaked was 2. Leslie and Menard. Nick the Knife needed cover. Who better than Menard, court martial, convicted for an affair in an Operational Theater.

As you can see, leaked just before the convention, and they had a planned reply while he was being interviewed.

But the assertion threatens to dirty one of the Liberal party’s star candidates, who is already struggling with controversy following revelations taxpayers footed $72,000 in relocation costs and real estate fees when he left the military.

News of Leslie’s moving expenses was leaked just days before the start of the Liberal national convention.

But the Conservative party issued an email in the middle of Leslie’s news conference, insisting that Leslie was the one who initiated contact.

“His lack of judgment and defence of excessive taxpayer spending further underscores why he is Justin Trudeau’s senior adviser,” the Tory missive scoffed

Leaking the info just before the convention is the smart move.

Certainly you don't expect to walk away from this gift served-up by the Libs?

And how ell it plays is critical- And Harper has that attack dog rep.
So for those that have no time for hairdo like myself, see it for what it is. Bad move.

That may change but it appears hairdos numbers guy is hot set for deficits as hairdos father was. If that is the case I know where I will park my vote.

And yes I know Leslie.

Politics si a nasty sport my friend.

Quite frankly, I am surprised that members of Canada's military would waste their time at all in that arena
