Harper stumbled on his words too much.

Jack looked like a used car salesman.

Martin was smooth as silk...........said nothing true.

Who cares about Duceppe?

But if you have to declare a winner, in all honesty.....Martin is it.

I was willing to think about voting Conservative this election. But Steven Harris is working hard to talk me out of it. What is this 'free vote' on traditional marriage. Get some backbone man. Call a referendum on marriage, say you'll invoke the notwithstanding clause against these decrepit judges the Liberals have appointed and their de facto coup over the sovereignty of Parliament.

Take a stand for Canadian Sovereignty as well. But i didn't hear it. It sounds like the same old.. same old.. NEO-Conservative crap we've been getting. Nobody was more grovelling towards the Americans than Brian Mulroney and Stephen seems bent to follow in his footsteps.

This is not a party in the mould of John A. MacDonald. This is a slimey neo-liberal, free trade, libertarian party, in the back pocket of Bay Street. They've produced some of the worst leaders in Canadian history in Brian Mulroney and Mike Harris, sell outs of our birthright. And Harris is looking more and more like a big WIMP.

I don't know. Maybe I'll spoil my ballot, I don't see a choice right now, unless one of the small insurgent parties appears in my riding.

Who the hell is Steven Harris?

Well I would not count an online poll being that accurate.

Especially given the habit that Conservatives have of trying to swing such polls. I won't link to them, but check out the messages on some Conservative sites.

RE: English Debate Tonigh

No matter...the idea of a referendum on marriage is even sillier than Harper's promise of a free vote. Human rights should not be subject to mob rule, the issue would be incredibly divisive, and every reliable poll on the subject shows the split being almost 50/50, so a referendum wouldn't settle anything.

What about the equal rights of polygamists? Why aren't they protected under the Charter of rights?

Why can't muslims practice Sharia law?

Why can Paul Martin use a private clinic, yet I can't?

Completely off-topic obfuscating bullshit. We've been listening to this particular piece of misdirection for over a year now and it has no relation to the subject at hand.

Why can't muslims practice Sharia law?

Because in Canada we are a secular society practicing secular laws.

Why can Paul Martin use a private clinic, yet I can't?

I'm doing all I can to stop him. What are you doing?

I don't wanna hear anything about the "Charter Of Rights" when Arar had no rights when he was sent to Syria.

I sure wish Arar had the same rights as those seeking same sex marrige had.

The Charter of Rights does not hold any water next to the Anti-Terrorism laws recently passed in parliament.

Durgan,

Your little contrived dialogue is the equivalent of grade five propaganda we were taught in school back in the 60's. Silly

I thought is was a good, balanced debate. Each of the leaders had their moments: Duceppe with his criticism of Liberal corruption, and intrusion into provincial affairs, Martin with his passionate responses (some worked, some fell flat), Layton with his attack on Martin's enviromental 'legacy'. I though Harper was very good, eloquent and well spoken most of the debate. He didn't come across to me as 'scary' at all.

He does, and if they could ship Arar off to Syria to be tortured, with the Liberals doing nothing and the Conservatives complaining that the Liberals didn't ship him off sooner, then they can do it to any other Canadian, Calm.

It was balanced, Mike. It was even informative. It wasn't a debate though...more of a town hall.

The scariest that Harper looked was when he smiled. With the eye-liner and lipstick, he looks like a Stepford wife when he smiles. :p

His position on SSM made him look bad though. It's a closed issue that he chose to reopen. He looks to be pandering to the religious right when he discusses it. It brings his knowledge of and his respect for the Charter of Rights into question.

On Radio Canada (French) Martin was the big loser and especially canned for his planned phony 'My Canada' hysterics. Martin knows that doesn't win a single vote in Quebec but is aimed at Ontario.

The only cards Martin has to exploit are:

the anti-American card
the empty 'I love Canada' card, and
the Steven Harper is a Bogeyman card

The fellow drools for years over the prospect of being PM and that's all he is about. Somewhat pathetic.

It plays well everywhere but Quebec and Alberta, Calberty. It even plays well with the federalists in Quebec. Whoever came up with that line (and I'm willing to bet that it wasn't Martin) knew exactly what they were doing. It was a solid piece of politics.

Martin is pathetic.
Harper is worse.
Layton is a sidekick.
and Duceppe ......

Since Duceppe won't be PM, i will "swallow" Martin but not really consider him "my" leader. If Harpie won, i would have to seriously consider if it is time to move out of Canada.

Why?

Lay it out for me, kid.

Point by point, why does Harper make you guys pee in your pants?

I disagree with him as well on some issues, but scary? Run me out of the country?

No. I'm gonna vote for him.

He is the best offered, sadly.
