The kid an I were working the polls and I flipped the canidate rep$ 20 to grab us some food. She came back with my $20 and said it was covered by Andy.
I think that Bob Rae was right. This is a night of humility and reflection. When the Conservatives took a beating by the Liberals it was also a time of Humility and reflection. For both parties it was time to rebuild and rethink their vision. Though I do not share the political views I am still a fellow citizen and support their right to view things differently than I. That is why Canada is such a great Country filled with great people.

Sounds like 56% voter turn-out. Lowest in Canadian history. The youth vote
went to the NDP....

Hubby and I were just looking at elections Canada data, and where we have chornically close elections, every two or three years, voter turnout starts to drop off. Here's hoping that in 4 years we regain our turnout.
No way.... I'd let the Liberals continue to die as they should and let the NDP continue their gains that they have been gaining for the last number of years..... this is their first time gaining main opposition status and they did it on their own...... since the last few elections, the NDP have been only gaining ground while the Liberals have been burning up.
Why would they risk losing that headway by trying to join up with the Liberals?
They've finally made their own identity which more and more people relate to.
After the next four years, if they keep on the track they're heading on, and after people get a clear image of what a Harper Majority really means, chances are, they'll get even more popular.
Then the only parties that would be splitting the vote would be Liberals & Conservatives.
That'd be my guess anyways.
Thought I just heard 61% which is up by about 1% from last time. A lot of ridings went Con because of large vote splits between Libs and NDP. Just a bit of strategic voting would have given another minority govt. We shall have to wait and see if there is anything left of Canada in 4 years or if it has become Canacorp.
And here I was thinking it went up from the last election......
I might have something to do with that voter turnout, as since I'm not in the country, the government forms I filled out told me I wasn't eligible to vote...... which I find is complete BS since I'm still a Canadian Citizen and as such, I thought it was my right..... but that's a different topic I suppose.
Where I was working there were ****loads in their 4o's and 50's voting for the first time.
There was this one gal who only had a "Bar Card" for photo ID. I burst out laughing the instant I saw it and so did she.
My daughter simply had no clue what the hell a Bard Card was so I showed her mom's from an old box of memories in the basement. I'm toast if Petra sees that she posted it on Facebook.

What this will do for Canada is force politicians to stop relying on rhetoric and fear-mongering and yes, that does include the conservatives. What I have seen since we got into this whole minority cycle is all parties failing to deliver a clear vision for Canadians to choose. It's been a hodgepodge, "Oh No's" and "Secret agenda's?" -but no clear definition of what any serving party will offer.
Now we have a majority government, a strong opposition and [in my opinion] a clear message from the Canadian voter. Put up or shut up boys! If the conservatives do not govern this country with anything less than professionalism they will be beaten. If the NDP does not live up to the new role that Canadians have given them, they will return to obscurity.
