I know that Gh, and you know what, they won't remember it when you return in kind elsewhere. So there really is no point to it.

I'm sorry that people have come in here and sh!t on one of your holy days bud.

It's appreciated Bear, ....... and I know, those that would be cut the deepest with my sword are not the ones that took up the sword against me.

C'mon guys, it's Easter for crying out loud. Knock off the usual anti Church rhetoric shyte.

Let me get this straight: I commend those who risk death standing for what Jesus supposedly died for (i.e. what is being celebrated here) and condemn those within the faith who betray them--ring a bell?---but it's just the "usual anti Church rhetoric shyte."

Well, I'm not religious and am not exactly up to date on my Bible readings so maybe I just don't 'get it' but to me, self-sacrifice in the name of pity and righteousness, even in opposition to overwhelming power is what Easter truly commemorates and celebrates.

but for us, who are not religious, it is not a religious
holiday, but a day of family, dinners, chocolate and big
get togethers, just as Xmas is also.
We can all celebrate in our own way, no doubts, just lots
of enjoyment.

I agree Talloola, but some people don't want everyone to enjoy things on their own terms, hence the bashing back and forth.

Happy Easter to all.

...sigh...

There's been no bashing here (my comment concerning the church isn't bashing by any sane definition). Enough already.

Celebrate all you want--at the very least a well-deserved break and a chance to see people who are usually too busy trying to make ends meet. It'd be nice if there were more official religious holidays that everybody could benefit from.

I'm just saying Easter isn't your run-of-of-the-mill holiday (although many treat it that way); it defines the core principles behind the faith: pity for the destitute and struggle for freedom from oppression. You don't need to be religious to celebrate that.

A great time with Friends & Family, lots of Music and lots of Laughter.
Kids & Dogs running & playing. That's Easter in its current form for me.

Religious significance or not for each one individually, it's a time for all
to get along and live their lives as best they can, being thankful for what
they have and the company that they keep.

...and a spin of the plate like so:

Easter Sunday is just a 'fun' holiday.
The most important holiday we have is 'remembrance day', for
all of the soldiers 'who' actually did die for us, and didn't have a chance to live their lives as we are, thanks to them, and
like anyone who has died, they can never come back, or rise
from anywhere, but stay in our memories forever with thanks.

Northern Ontario,
I just now realized why "atheists" were dumping on this Easter thread......

Nobody wished them a happy holiday on their national holiday.....

I came into this thread as an atheist, not to put down
religious people and how they perceive easter, or celebrate
it, or whatever, but to say that we don't all celebrate
easter for the same reason.

Nothing wrong with that, I will always find a way to make
every holiday a fun time, whatever I perceive that holiday
to mean.

As an atheist I am not banned from this thread, but don't
believe the same as the religious, so be it.

nobody owns easter, or any other holiday.

I did it 'my way', just like Frankie.
