Helping people that don't want to help themselves is like pissing in the wind, Gerryh. I'll help them when they start helping themselves .

A good number of Attawapiskat residents have been in town here for well over a year now.....their kids going to school here.
Dunno if Theresa Spence is getting as much money from the Government, with a good number of the reserve living here and in Timmins......?
I'm not privy to that info.........

Better to sit on your a$$, with your hand out, whining about how hard you have it and threatening suicide if someone else doesn't come and help.

What else are kids supposed to do? Most of the ones committing suicide are children. Some are under the age of ten. You dont have a whole lot of say or power in anything at that age. Probably even less when you're in the middle of nowhere with no way out.

And that is something we won't see-natives claim to be so in love with their children but as anyone who'd visited the reserve knows it's all bull-adults sit around watching TV & boozing while kids run wild with no supervision of any kind.

That's not true of every reserve just most of them and the poorer the rezz the more dysfunctional the parents.

He's not wrong in the case of Attawapiskat. The thing that really bothers me though, is from 2006-2011, Attawapiskat hauled in around a half billion dollars from all sources and seems to have nothing to show for it.
They did stuff like tear down their school, (it really did need to be replaced though, it was a mess) but instead of replacing it, built a new arena, paid $150,000 to have a Zamboni shipped up there, and then started whining about how they didn't even have a proper school.


Pete is also correct in that too many Chiefs are using their people as political pawns instead of actually worrying about their well being. Instead they run their communities like their own personal little fiefdoms where your well being is entirely dependent on your status with the Chief and Elders.

Of the many thousands of Gov't bureaucrats surely to Christ there is one that could be sent up with a couple of $million and make sure it is put to good use with something to show for it. The water supply might be a place to start, but that's for an expert to figure out!
