Well, I don't think "Mother Nature" can be discounted and I don't see why "she" can't count as God.
No one is lying about God, it is just that many are seeking and have not yet found.
A VERY large proportion of the earth's people believe in the same God, whether he is called Jehovah, Allah or just God.
Science is NOT antagonistic to the concept of God, in fact it compliments that belief very nicely. In science Occums Razor applies to virtually everything, the simpler the explanation, the more likely it is to be true. Yet, the more we discover about our universe, the more COMPLEX it becomes.
The Christian Bible, the Koran, the Jewish Old Testament, and a host of other "Holy Writings" are often mans attempt to explain the unexplainable. When it come to the Bible, it is amazing at just how accurate it's history is, towns are where the Bible says that they should be, towns were destroyed catastrophically as the Bible says that they were, etc., etc.
At one time, most of the Near East and Europe believed that each and every word of the Bible was inherently accurate. As time has gone on, and as we have discovered more and more about how things work, we discovered that much of it is essentially a parable. That does NOT however mean that it is all bull manure.
You are free to reject belief. I am free to believe. We were given "free will" to accept or reject. I choose to believe that there is an all powerful deity responsible for this universe, and everything in it.

To me a "higher power" is some one or thing able to accomplish things I can't or as far as the human race goes someone who can regulate things that man can't or is in charge of things we can't understand. Things like the San Juan Capistrano Swallows or the Sockeye returning to the Adams River.

I believe in the power of people and our earth, our home that not many people feel is important enough

I'm not sure that the frailties of people have much to do with the presence or absence of God. I think it's a foregone conclusion that people aren't perfect and there's little doubt they are all different but still should be equal in some some aspects, like I believe all children regardless of their short comings should have an equal chance to fulfill their abilities.
You are wasting your time JLM...... for all of talloola's protestations of "live and let live", she doesn't really follow it. She's also REAL good at telling you what you actually believe and what you don't and it doesn't matter if you tell her otherwise. She has made up her mind well before you actually open your mouth. She also "knows" all about "God" so if you tell her something different than what she "knows" then you are wrong or lying.
I don't know enough about the subject to be nasty. However there are a lot of scholars that spend most of their lives researching the Bible and religion and I just don't think you can discount all of them. The only thing I am sure of............man isn't the supreme being.
