U.S. in a Sentence

The United States sometimes takes democracy to an extreme, whereby peace, order and good government are compromised in the interest of partisanship.

I personally think the UK and the other western countries are as free, if not more so than the US,

According to a website, that hopefully I'll find and post here, Britain is more democratic than Canada, the US, France and Germany.

Constitutional Monarchies constitute, I think, most of the world's Top 20 mosty democratic antions.

6. Norway - Constitutional Monarchy
7. Netherlands - Constitutional Monarchy
8. Australia - Constitutional Monarchy
9. United Kingdom - Constitutional Monarchy
10. Canada - Constitutional Monarchy
11. Austria - Federal Republic
12. Germany - Federal Republic
13. Belgium - Constitutional Monarchy

Of the Top 20 most democratic nations, 10 are monarchies and 10 are republics.

However, of the Top 10 most democratic nations, a massive 8 out of 10 of them are monarchies, and 4 out of 10 have Queen Elizabeth II as their Monarch.

That should shut the Republicans up for a while.

I don't count a democracy as different from a republic.

You can be a republic and be democratic and you can be a monarchy and be democratic.

And it's true that Constitutional Monarchies are usually more free, and have less corrupt governments, than Republics. The Americans and the French made a big mistake when they got rid of their Monarchies.

No, but you hold your so called "freedom" up like a banner, suggesting that you are some how, "more free" than others. I'm not sure you are as free as you say you are. The morning after the French president threatened to veto American aspirations in Iraq, as he had every right to do, your whole country was singing about "freedom fries" and "freedom toast", and stamping on French flags like some great " ring bell, salivate" Pavlovian reaction.

To be honest, I think juan put it much better than I could, yes I think not, ur right, it was 200 odd years ago, but many things change, we are not the same ppl we were then, nor are you, I dont know if it would go too far to suggest you have become something completly different from what America was *officially* designed to be........but from the outside it would seem so, I think the "patriot" act took care of most of those, and when a head of state can stop a large proportion of votes being counted simply because of the colour of their skin, you have to ask yourself how free you really are.

*and what I meant by a differing type of freedom in canada, kinda means it's not the kinda freedom designed solely to make bigger profit for the merchants.....kind of for all...not just the rich who can afford healthcare

A republic is governed by a leader usually a president but not a monarch supreme power is held by it,s citizens who are entitiled to vote for and elect representatives. A republic is not necessarily democratic in the modern sense of the word. A case in point would be the USA where money routinely supercedes the wish and will of the people by various means.

We should all stop bashing the USA and start helping thier socialist revolution so that they can have the fog of atomized bullshit lifted from arround thier heads. We should be sending aid to them so they can defeat the Military Industrial Complex that runs every aspect of thier lives.

We should, perhaps, offer the United States of America the opportunity to become a province of our dear nation. We could send them an Honourable Lieutenant Governor as soon as possible to represent Her Majesty the Queen of Canada; I should start a petition to have Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean start writing up a list of possible nominees at once. :D

Haha, snowball's chance in Hell, eh?

In a Republic, the Head of State only represents the political party that they are leader of.

In a Constitutional Monarchy, such as Britain and Canada, the Head of State has no political affiliations and represents the PEOPLE rather than a political party.

I'm not really an expert on things like this, but that's one difference between the two.

Their last monarch would have been King George III.
