I just thought this was very interesting - that the Canadian Dept. of Defence has 32 America Air Force personnel working for them in high security positions.

The 32 American personnel belonging to the USAF's 722 Squadron work in the underground complex of the Canadian Sector Air Operations Centre (SAOC).

They are responsible for providing operational resources, aerospace surveillance and control, attack warning and assessment, counter-drug operations and damage-limiting operations in defence of North America.

The Squadron also provides centralized control of aerospace resources for all of Canada and identifies all air breathing movements into Canada. At the same time, the Squadron ensures bi-national forces are trained, equipped and prepared for air sovereignty of Canada and carries out national policies as directed.

My question would be: Why is the USA doing this for Canada? And were you aware of it?

There are actually a few Canadians doing a few high-ranking jobs in Iraq for the American army. It is in Time Canada from last year, they had some articles on these Canadians about two or three of them.

I wasn't aware of this specifically, but I know Canadian and US air defense is as one under NORAD. So this doesn't surprize me.

Did you know the second-in-command of anti-terror operations in the Baghdad sector of Iraq is a Canadian soldier?

We work closely with our friends and allies.

Canada and the US have had joint research and development military contracts going back to the early 1970's I think just after the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Canada acutually hosts some of the best military training facilities in the world which the US military frequently uses. Development and research costs are less up here so we get a lot of US military personelle working here, while technological research has more liberties in the states so a lot of Canadian military train in the states for tech.

I thought it was reasonably well known.

This is why the American's took it so personally when despite having personelle and US bases in Canada, that Deifenbaker would not allow Nuclear Weapons to be stationed on those bases.

I think that's the only time we've ever really drawn a hard military line in the sand.

I was recently at Norad in North Bay and I saw first hand American military personnel here in Canada under Canadian command. They are treated no different than Canadians. They are part of an exchange program. The same program involves Canadian military personnel assigned to American units, some of which are now in Iraq.

This issue was discussed in the house of commons.

There are still some Americans and Canadians left who know how to cooperate with each other in matters of extreme importance to our safety.

We are landlocked people. We better learn to get along instead of falling for all this nasty cr*p which has been inserted into our cultures for the past thirty or so years.

Our greatest enemies are those who would divide the two great nations...think about it and those who would benefit from that
very event.

On September 11th 2001, General Rick "Eric" Findley, Canadian was in charge of NORAD.

Before the first jet hit the World Trade Center, Ottawa's Major-Gen. Eric Findley was ready to respond to acts of terror. His actions on Sept. 11 will earn him one of Canada's highest honours, George Kampouris reports.

I never saw a word about it in the press either - or giving credit to
Maj-Gen Findley for his horrific responsibilities that day. It was a day like no other for him no doubt.

I hope the Americans have shown gratitude towards him for his
taking care of business of a most unusual kind.
