When I went to Cuba there was something I noticed. Everyone was happy, they were very polite and smiled ear to ear regardless of their surroundings or what they had/didn't have.

exactly!

they weren't sitting there begging for money, they were doing their thing.

running their businesses, living their lives.

Chiliagon, it really does not matter what you think or want Cuba to be like. What matters is what Cubans think. I venture to guess that they - except for those who slavishly toe the Communist Party line - disagree with you.

petros, I grew up in a Communist country (I managed to free myself when I was seventeen) where looking happy was an obligation, be polite, and smile ear to ear, OR ELSE!!

I never said I support him at all. What I don't want is to have the USA get their hands on Cuba and turn it into another US style Tourist country.
Full circle, Big Bad America!!!

I want them to keep their identity but lose the Socialist ways.
Isn't that part of the charm you've been espousing?
I don't wanna see Cuba turn into American culture.
You mean like being stuck perpetually in the 50's? Go Chuck Berry!
No McDonalds, Walmarts, Shopping Centres, Cineplex 12 movie theatres, and other Americanized Restaurants.
So you don't want it to look like downtown Newmarket Ontario Canada?

I want them to keep their uniqueness.
Don't people call that segregation? Aren't there people in Canada that think us "injuns" do this and shouldn't?

Ya, I actually can say I saw that too.

But I see that at some rez' too. Then I take a swing off the main drag and viola. Reality hits.

It's all over the world dude. It's there too.

Wow, then I wonder why the bulk of people that go get the advice to take chocolate and jeans. And even more amazing, why is a Cuban national will almost suck your dick if yer so kind as to give them some of those wears?

Things that make you go Hmmm.

running their businesses, living their lives.
Does everybody in Cuba own their own business?

Yup. For some odd reason they like Canadiense.
We have the best jeans and Chocolate? We're real kind and generous (see jeans and chocolate)?

A rez with a main drag? You should see what it's like out this way. I'd rather live in Cuba or even Palestine for that matter. At least in Cuba they have running water that you don't need to boil.

Because a cummunist dictaor stole property without paying for and expelled legitimate businesses?

instead of the latest model of Ford Focus? or whatever..
See first response.

petros bitched, whined, frowned and scowled at will, thus:

"So now you bitch, whine, frown and scowl at will. Boy did Canada ever gain."

I agree: Canada (and I, both) GAINED when I immigrated here.

Thanks, petros, I never thought you'd say that!

Huh?

I get the feeling you're talking out your ass. Look up freedom, illusion or not, you have it, they don't. Not in the same sense.

A rez with a main drag?
Ya, every rez has a main road.

You should see what it's like out this way. I'd rather live in Cuba or even Palestine for that matter. At least in Cuba they have running water that you don't need to boil.
You should see what's out this way. Awesome, touristy types places, casino's, galleries, beautifully kept lawns and homes.

Excellent smoke shacks and bargain liquor stores.

They're not all the same eh.

Really? Booming economy. A populace a little on the exploited side, but hey, the hookers and booze flowed like honey.

And Russia has not been a communist country since they stopped being the USSR?
Ya, that's kinda what the...

See Russia for what ex communist state captives like, want, need.

Stands for, hence my use of it.
