I never said I support him at all. What I don't want is to have the USA get their hands on Cuba and turn it into another US style Tourist country.

I want them to keep their identity but lose the Socialist ways.

I don't wanna see Cuba turn into American culture.

No McDonalds, Walmarts, Shopping Centres, Cineplex 12 movie theatres, and other Americanized Restaurants.

I want them to keep their uniqueness.

I'd never think to patronize them that way. I think if they want a McD's they should be allowed a McD's. If they want to be unique, they should be allowed to be unique. Wanting them to be what you want them to be shouldn't factor into it. What should factor in is wanting them to be free to do as they please.

I think it's safe to say "freedom" isn't exactly high on chili's list of musts.

Oh boy when those doors open and Americans can go to Cuba EN MASSE us Yanks are going to go NUTS there...

YEEEEE HAAAAAAAW!

I want them to keep their identity but lose the Socialist ways.

Hmmm, maybe we'll let them keep some of their ways.

I don't wanna see Cuba turn into American culture.

No McDonalds, Walmarts, Shopping Centres, Cineplex 12 movie theatres, and other Americanized Restaurants.

Ah well. We'll let the Cubans decide Chilli how's that? Not a guy who feels he knows what is best for someone elses country.

I want them to keep their uniqueness.

Again, the Cubans will decide for themselves someday. It will be good if they will someday be able to don't you think?

no that's incorrect.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't decide or be able to decide if they want one or not.

the problem I foresee in the future is that the uniqueness that Cuba has right now, would vanish.

the USA would come in and demolish all their old historic buildings and their way of life that they've known for 50 years and modernize everything, with all these new American restaurants and fast food joints and walmart type stores.

it would totally ruin the aura that Cuba gives off to the Tourists. it's a land that seems to remain basically untouched by the westernized status of Canada and USA.

personally, I'd like to see it stay out of Cuba.

I really don't want to see Cuba turn into another Americanized tourist trap.

Well DUH!!.. Earth to obvious guy!!

I wasn't saying that they SHOULD do what I want.

I was saying I'd like to see it remain free of Americanization. this doesn't imply in any shape or form that it should be as I see fit.

where are you reading this? am I somehow writing messages within my message in some secret form that you can see?

everyone has their ideal way they'd like to see something go.. same as having an opinion on something.. that's all it is.

But ES, big bad America will ruin Cuba for Canadians who like Cubans just the way they are now. Quaint pet like people in a terrarium of a country...

Kinda reminds me of the folks that use to visit the rez looking for "injuns" in loin clothes shrouded in feathers.

no that's incorrect.
So you're OK if Cuban's want to bring America to Cuba?

I'm not saying that they shouldn't decide or be able to decide if they want one or not.
You just said that there shouldn't be any.

the problem I foresee in the future is that the uniqueness that Cuba has right now, would vanish.
And who's fault would that be?

But I'm again brought back to the visahe of folks looking for loin clothes and feathers.

the USA would come in and demolish all their old historic buildings and their way of life that they've known for 50 years and modernize everything, with all these new American restaurants and fast food joints and walmart type stores.
Kinda like Walmart did to your home town?

it would totally ruin the aura that Cuba gives off to the Tourists.
Ya, joining the 20th century had that effect on us natives too.

it's a land that seems to remain basically untouched by the westernized status of Canada and USA.
So you should support the regime that keeps them that way? Gotchya.
personally, I'd like to see it stay out of Cuba.

I really don't want to see Cuba turn into another Americanized tourist trap.

come on bear. different story different situation. Cuba was going down the tubes when the US had control of Cuba.

No they weren't. As Bear said, the people were exploited and I'll add that the government was corrupt so instead they got a dictator for the last 50 odd years. But money flowed and the 1950's cars were brand new then.

Now they are being ALLOWED to have cell phones. Great place eh?

You want them to be your pets in a way. Ignorant of the world and so happy that you patronize them.

the USA would come in and demolish all their old historic buildings and their way of life that they've known for 50 years and modernize everything, with all these new American restaurants and fast food joints and walmart type stores.

Yup, that just might happen and if it does it will be the Cubans doing the work with US investment.

And personally... I'd LOVE to see this embargo lifted just to PIZZ guys like you off. So the next time you scrape up the loonies to get to Cuba there will be a BIG AZZ Walmart as soon as you get off the plane.

I can't wait for MTV to hold Spring Break 2015 down there!

figures that you're an American.

why am I the least bit surprised?

It's just Like America to want to conquer everything that isn't theirs!

instead of leaving it alone, they have to bring in all their wealth and wisdom and make it like their own!

nope, my home town is growing fast and Walmart actually helped make our city more productive!
Really? I'm sure the owners of the small businesses it crushed see it differently.

But hey, did you just boost Walmart?

So why is it dem Cuban's can't have one, if it was so good for your town?

figures that you're an American.
Hmmm, CDNBear is finding the sudden realization by Chilli that EAGLESmack, with a USMC avatar is an American, troubling.

why am I the least bit surprised?
For the same reason I'm not surprised you're a kid.

It's just Like America to want to conquer everything that isn't theirs!
Hmmm, sorry ES, I have to step away from that one...

instead of leaving it alone, they have to bring in all their wealth and wisdom and make it like their own!
What if the Cuban's invite them?

No more surprised than I am at your line of thinking. You want them to forever be your cabana boys and cocktail waitresses when you go visit, I get that.

Nobody said anything about conquering anything.

We'll let the Cubans decide. Cuba will not be anymore our own than St. Thomas, Nassau, or any other Carribean country that invites tourism.

You whine about the embargo on one hand but want the US to stay out of Cuba on the other.

I don't have it all straightened out. but I am far from a kid. maybe not totally aware of things.
OK, I'll ask, how old are you?

And I'll be honest, I was being condescending, but not trying to be insulting. I was a kid once too. My perspectives changed as I matured. Thankfully I stopped maturing before I became a member of the Conservative party though.

You're out look seems young. Your perspectives limited and immature. And again, that's not meant to be insulting, just an observation.

I'll even admit to have been having you on for a bit. I get what you're saying, but the way you say it does come off in a way that sounds a little, well, off.

Who are you to judge how the Cuban's would act if they had the choice of Walmarts etc?

You do realize how selfish & abusive your relationship with Cuba seems?

huh?

I have no relationship with Cuba!?

I just feel that after seeing it, that I wouldn't want Cuba to become americanized with American stores and foods and idealisms. that's all. I personally would like to see it stay away from American idealism as much as it can..

I am 32.

I have not been exposed to some things. I tend to be a little stubborn when I get an idea in my head.. can be tough to sway me.
