Blood Tribe declares State of Emergency amidst COVID-19 outbreak

The COVID-19 outbreak has prompted the Blood Tribe in southern Alberta to declare a local State of Emergency.
The order was issued Monday as a safety precaution for residents.

The band also announced $500,000 to be allocated to support members that need assistance with food and sanitation.
"We will provide $500,000 and use the profits of our initiatives to ensure that we are able to cover those basic costs," said Chief Roy Fox in a news release Monday.
"We would like to provide packages to our people especially to those of our people who cannot afford to acquire additional items for prevention."
The Blood Tribe said Monday that essential programs and services like public works, housing, and social development will continue during the state of emergency.
Its Disaster and Emergency Management Team will be meeting on a regular basis to address the COVID-19 situation.

The local grocery store opened early for seniors this morning.
Apparently there was an early lineup waiting outside for the doors to open to go in.


I went there at about a quarter to ten to get fresh fruits and veggies and a dozen beers and was back home 20 minutes later.
Sometimes people are such lemmings!

Public-health experts are interested in the possibility that private-sector companies such as Facebook and Google could let them study their location data in anonymous, aggregated form to help map the spread of the coronavirus, according to three people familiar with the effort who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Analyzing movements could help track the outbreak but could leave some Americans uncomfortable, depending on the level of detail shared about their whereabouts.

The European Union on Tuesday announced a sweeping 30-day ban on most nonessential travel into the 27-country bloc.

There is still a need to guarantee passage of medicine, food stamps and citizens must be able to travel to home countries, European Council President Charles Michel said.
