TEL AVIV — An Israeli court on Sunday upheld a school’s decision to bar a teaching assistant who had refused to show proof she had been vaccinated or tested for COVID-19, in what could be a test case as the country reopens after its vaccine drive.

A court spokeswoman said she believed it was Israel’s first ruling on COVID-19 policy in the workplace, though it could still be overturned on appeal.

Some Israeli schools, in reopening, have required that their staff show proof either of vaccination or negative once-weekly COVID-19 tests.

The teaching assistant, Sigal Avishai, refused to give proof of either, citing her right to privacy and freedom of conscience. Barred from school in response, she turned to the court last month, arguing she had suffered de-facto suspension.

“We do not, at this time, believe that the apparent rights of the appellant outweigh the right and duty of the respondent to care for the welfare of their pupils, educational staff and pupils’ parents,” the court said, ruling in favour of the school board for the town of Kochav Yair-Tzur Yigal.

Avishai had argued that the school’s policy was an unlawful breach of her medical privacy and that she was being “pressured to get vaccinated against her beliefs,” the court said.

Israel’s world-beating vaccination program has left authorities with the dilemma of how to balance public health with the rights of a minority who have refused vaccines.

Several activities have been deemed off-limits to the unvaccinated, angering those who cannot get the shot for health reasons, or refuse it either for religious reasons or skepticism over vaccines.

More than 55% of Israelis have received at least one dose of the Pfizer Inc vaccine and almost 49% have received the full two-dose regime, the Health Ministry says.

Israel has logged a steep drop in cases and hospital admissions.

The Fourth Wave of Covid is coming

They say we're in the third wave of the Covid pandemic. I say there will be a fourth wave, and more will follow. Anti lockdown protests are spreading from country to country. Is this the new normal? And what about your freedom?

OSLO — Norwegian police said on Tuesday they have begun questioning Prime Minister Erna Solberg over a birthday party she held last month, which could lead to a fine of 10,000 crowns ($1,165) for breaking COVID-19 social distancing rules.

“We have started an investigation and part of this involves questioning the prime minister. We have taken the initiative and the questioning has begun, but it is not formally over,” police inspector Per Morten Sending told Reuters.

Police aimed to conclude the probe this week, he said.

The two-term prime minister has apologized for celebrating her 60th birthday with 13 family members at a mountain resort, despite a government ban on events attended by more than 10 people.

“We planned a dinner at a restaurant, which we believed to be in line with coronavirus guidelines. It was at a restaurant where we booked three separate tables and where we kept our distance,” Solberg told reporters on Friday.

“I can only apologize for the fact that we did not comprehend that this, as defined by the law, was an event.”

Solberg has championed strict rules to curb the spread of the coronavirus, resulting in some of Europe’s lowest rates of infections and deaths, which has boosted support for her Conservative Party in polls ahead of elections in September.

But the country is now seeing a rapid rise in infections led by more contagious variants of the virus, with health officials warning that hospitals risk becoming overwhelmed unless the outbreak is contained.

The birthday party has drawn criticism, including from her own health minister, Bent Hoeie, who told daily VG: “This should not have happened.”

LONDON — A Banksy painting showing a young boy playing with a toy nurse as a superhero rather than Batman or Spider-Man sold for more than $20 million on Tuesday, setting an auction record for the elusive British street artist.

“Game Changer,” which was unveiled last May at University Hospital Southampton, paid tribute to the frontline workers of Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The black-and-white artwork shows a young boy lifting a nurse, her arm stretched and wearing a cape, while traditional superheroes Batman and Spider-Man lie in a bin.

In a Christie’s auction streamed live, the painting sold for a hammer price of 14.4 million pounds ($19.85 million). Added fees gave it a final price of 16.758 million pounds ($23.10 million), a world auction record for Banksy, according to Christie’s.

The painting had carried an estimate of 2.5-3.5 million pounds. Christie’s said proceeds would go towards “support(ing) the wellbeing of University Hospital Southampton staff and patients.”

The sale took place as Britons across the country on Tuesday marked one year since Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered the nation into its first lockdown.

A minute’s silence was observed to remember the more than 126,000 people who have lost their lives since to the virus.

Oh for fuck sakes.

REGINA -- The Saskatchewan government has expanded public health measures for Regina and area due to rising COVID-19 rates.

All private indoor gatherings are restricted to immediate household members, effective immediately. People who live alone will be allowed to meet with one household of fewer than five people.

All non-essential indoor locations that had a 30 person limit must close.

Venues including banquet and community halls, conference facilities, arts venues, museums, libraries, live theatre, cinemas, arcades, bowling and science centres will also be forced to temporarily close.

According to the province, a travel advisory has been issued for Regina and the surrounding communities. Travel is not recommended in or out of the city unless “absolutely necessary.”

Places of worship will continue to have a 30 person limit.

The government is “strongly recommending” that everyone in Regina and area work from home if they are able to.

The updated public health order and new recommendations apply to the city of Regina and the following communities and RMs: Belle Plaine, Pense, Grand Coulee, Lumsden Beach, Regina Beach, Craven, Lumsden, Edenwold, Pilot Butte, White City, Balgonie, Kronau, Davin, Gray, Riceton, RM of Lajord, RM of Edenwold, RM of Sherwood, RM of Pense and the RM of Lumsden.

Are we dead yet?
For those who take Astra they may be dead sooner then they think. Hey, you never know, eh?

I believe that those who take the Convid 1984 vaccine are no doubt just a bunch of useless air breathers anyway who never offered all that much to society so they will not be missed. The world will be left to smart people like me who did not take this dangerous killing phony vaccine.

Rumor has it that we should check what the population of the world is today which is around 7.9 billion and what it will be in say two to three years from now. I am going to keep track of this just for fun. You should too.
