Of course cops make mistakes, lie and do things wrong. As of yet, nobody has shown that this fits into this story. Nice try although, "Cops do bad" therefore "Crowley did bad" isn't much of an argument and it just goes to show how badly you are grasping at straws.

It still comes down to the fact that the cop arrested him because he got mouthy....on his own property......it was a bogus charge that the DA even threw out when it got to him. basically...for the cop....suck it up princess.

Nope. As has already been pointed out, he was arrested for disorderly conduct ... happens all the time. There's no news there.

it was a bogus charge that the DA even threw out when it got to him.

Bogus charge??? What, are you in a Hollywood movie? Prosecutors dropped the charge because because they would have a real tough time proving #2 above....

Second: The Commonwealth must prove beyond a reasonable doubt
that the defendant’s actions were reasonably likely to affect the public;

Again, this is nothing new. Charges get dropped all the time. That is because police are not lawyers. Cops make a spur of the moment decision. Prosecutors look at the possibility and/or probability of conviction after they've had the added benefit of time to analyze. It's the way it is and it's the way it has been and has worked generally well. I'm damn sure this hasn't been the first time charges have been dropped against a Crowley arrest and it won't be the last.

No, the only thing that makes this newsworthy is that Gates is a racist piece of shyte and some of the shyte got all over Obama.

Basically...for Gates and Obama....suck it up princess.

''Obama backed the wrong horse''

Then why did the cops drop all charges?

Hint: because they new that pressing charges under false pretenses would have led to a massive reward for Gates in a lawsuit.

The Cambridge mayor got in on the case as well: she admitted there was no valid basis for arresting Gates.

Holy cow stop the presses. You mean to tell me a Democratic politician (and one without a legal background) has come out with an opinion de jour.

This changes everything.

You said a lot saying "the Cambridge mayor". The city of Cambridge Mass is ULTRA-Liberal. Political Correctness trumps the law in Cambridge...always has...always will.

The Cambridge Mayor also forbid the police commisioner from releasing the arrest tapes because they clearly showed Gates acting like the racist that he is. The Commissioner backed his man and released them.

The cops didn't drop the charges...the District Atty. dropped the charges.

By merely dropping charges does not mean that Gates cannot sue. It actually strengthens a lawsuit.

It was a misdemeanor and charges are often dropped in these cases.

Obama DID back the wrong horse. Now Obama is giving Sgt. Crowley a free trip to the White House, a picnic on the White House lawn, and the President has to sit down and entertain Crowley and his family. Gates has to go as well and eat crow along with the President for embarrassing him. Obama stuck his foot in his mouth and now must answer to it.

What this situation has taught me:

I don't have the right to get angry at someone for disturbing me in my home in the middle of the night.

You are obviously not aware of what happened.

Gates's house had been broken into 8 days prior. There had been a number of break-ins in the neighborhood. A concerned neighbor from down the street saw a man barging in the door of Gate's house. She stopped another woman who used her cell phone to call 911. The "suspect" per se was Gates himself as his door was still broken from when the crooks broke in his house. So Gates had to break down his own door to get in. Sgt. Crowley responded and asked Gates to step outside and provide ID to ensure that it was indeed Gates's house.

It was there on the porch and in front of witnesses that Gates screamed at Crowley calling him a racist and bigot and yelled that Crowley was violating his rights. Gates was being uncooperative and was arrested.

So, I am in my house when somebody shows up and demands I step outside. I get angry and yell. I get arrested for being rude.

So, I apparently I got it right the first:

In case you are unaware of what disorderly conduct means when according to Crowley, Gates was non violent:

b. Offensive language. A person is guilty of a petty disorderly persons offense if, in a public place, and with purpose to offend the sensibilities of a hearer or in reckless disregard of the probability of so doing, he addresses unreasonably loud and offensively coarse or abusive language, given the circumstances of the person present and the setting of the utterance, to any person present.

No...you're just a PC guy or gal.

Again...Gates's house had been recently broken into...a man was seen barging in the door...a concerned citizen dialed 911...Crowley asked for ID...Gates called him a racist and was screaming at him and grandstanding and refused to show ID.

What should have happened.

Crowley- "Do you have an ID proving you are Mr. Gates"

Gates- "Yes...here you go."

Crowley- "Thank you...have a good day"

But NOOOOOO. Gates the elitist racist decides to be a jerk and racially profile the officer.

The police report and Gates statement both say that when Gates was asked for ID he proceeded into the kitchen where his wallet was. Crowley followed him and Gates produced the ID, 2 pieces, in the Kitchen. Gates then asked Crowley for ID and badge number which Crowley ignored and then walked back out of the house. Gates followed continueing to ask for ID and was still ignored. On the porch, while Crowley was in the front yard, Gates went off on him verbally.

Non violent doesn't mean he wasn't disorderly. A drunk can be non violent and go peacefully.

Gates's was wrong and now must sit quietly in the presence of Sgt. Crowley as he sips a beer on the White House lawn. A far cry from what he did on his porch two weeks ago. Gates's will be on his best behavoir and I hope Crowley has a big grin for him to see.

Near as I can tell all this proves is that you don't have to be white to be a racist.
While I am fortunate to live in a no crime neighbourhood I know that I would want the cops to check on suspicious activity around my house.

Non-violent in this case means that he was not arrested under sub-section a of the legislation I provide.

So there you have it:

Person identifies himself and proceeds to vent anger at being disturbed at night in his own home. Person is arrested for being rude. That is an outrage as far as I am concerned.

EXACTLY!

He should have been thanking Crowley...instead he accuses Crowley of being a racist.

Gates is CLEARLY a racist.
