Why? Seems to me a "cool, compassionate, and just plain nice" cop would appreciate this clear statement of the driver's intentions, while a "stupid, dumb, and just plain ignorant" cop would see it as a challenge to her authoritah.
So I'd call it appropriate to either thread.
