Good on the Conservatives for changing their minds. It shows open mindedness.

Canada needs to legalize Pot & Prostitution... sorta like Denmark. CPC need to support this. It's tax dollars, put it back into health care, education and infrustruture.

We are the 4th Nation in the word to allow Gay Marriage, we need to continue to be progressive on social issues..

Liberals Laud Rona Ambrose's 'Come To Jesus Moment' On Pot Legalization

OTTAWA — Liberal MPs gleefully welcomed on Monday Conservative interim leader Rona Ambrose’s apparent new position on the legalization of marijuana.

As health minister, Ambrose had waged a multimillion-dollar television and radio ad campaign aimed at Justin Trudeau’s pot plan. Earlier this month, however, in what seems like a stunning reversal of Tory policy, she called on the prime minister to move quickly on his plan to legalize weed.

“On Oct. 19, there was a very clear message sent when he was elected that pot is going to be legal across Canada recreationally, not just from a medicinal point of view,” she told reporters Monday. “So pot dispensaries are popping up everywhere. [Trudeau] said he is going to manage this, and he is going to keep it out of the hands of kids and so I’m waiting to see his plans to do that.”

Pot dispensaries did exist before the Liberals’ win this fall, Ambrose acknowledged, but she said police had previously cracked down on them in some jurisdictions.

As late as December, the Conservative interim leader had argued that selling pot in places such as Ontario’s liquor board would fail to keep it out of the hands of children. She told The Huffington Post Canada she was “very skeptical” the Liberals would be able to achieve their goals.

But then, in a confusing interview in early January, Ambrose told a Vancouver radio station she wanted the government to move on marijuana legalization as soon as possible. “The faster they move on this, the better … the better to protect kids,” she told CKNW AM 980's Simi Sara.

In a surprising policy shift, interim Conservative leader Rona Ambrose now says her party supports the legalization of marijuana, citing the drug’s ability to take the edge off of the stresses associated with pursuing the Tory agenda.

“Before, you’d come home after a long day of, I don’t know, ignoring the ongoing epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women, or fanning the flames of xenophobia to score cheap political points,” explained Ambrose, “And there’d be this moment where you’d see your reflection in the mirror and you asked yourself, ‘Holy Christ, am I even still human at this point?’ before screaming into a pillow for five or six hours.”

Now, she said, she just “fires up the vape” and eats her guilt away.

“Four or five sleeves of Chewy Chips Ahoy and half a season of Lost” she continued, “And I sleep like a black hearted baby.”

Ambrose cites her 16 year-old nephew Tyler’s recent interest in baking as the catalyst for changing her stance. While she admitted to being initially skeptical that the sleepy-eyed teen’s brownies possessed the “magic” properties he promised, she conceded that any such doubts were completely erased within “30ish minutes” after eating them.

“And then,” she continued, “Holy ****. Suddenly, the gays? Not so bad.”

Puffing on a two-paper spliff from his porch in Muskoka, Conservative MP Tony Clement echoed Ambrose’s sentiments. “I think it just opens your mind to the possibility that you don’t have to be a complete ******* all of the time, you know?” he offered through a thick cloud of Purple Kush.

“Like, sometimes it’s cool to just chill the **** out and be an actual human being who feels empathy for other people and an awareness of the world around you. I didn’t even know that was a thing.”

It's not a done deal. Canada is a signatory to treaties that make it very difficult if not impossible to legalize it.

They could just pull out of those treaties. With most all you have to do is give notice then thats that.

What the Tories are realizing is the only way to power is to be left wing Tories at best
People are done with the conservative agenda for a long time. Oh yest Trudeau didn't
didn't have more than fifty percent but when you add the NDP and Greens who voted
against the Tories the majority is there so even the Tories are getting poised to legalize
pot too bad they put people through hell for nine years in courts for grow budgets for
police and the court system while shunning what the people want.
WE should abandoned the war on this stuff and prosecute the bad guys wait a lot of
them were Torie appointed senators ironic eh?

Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott says the government has decided not to appeal the Allard v. Canada decision – a February federal court ruling that allows for patients to grow their own medical marijuana.

“We will respect the decision of the federal court and as such we are now in a situation where we have responsibility to address the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations and they will be amended accordingly in order to address the concerns of the court.”

Today was the deadline to file an appeal.

Philpott didn’t go into specifics and said it’s too early to say what kind of regulations will be put in place, but said the overall goals will be to deal with affordability and access of medical marijuana.

The court had struck down the previous Conservative government’s regulations restricting access to medical marijuana, and gave the new Liberal government until August 24th to create new rules so that patients can grow their own at home. This will occur separately from the government’s commitment to legalizing marijuana.

Grow you own, period. Who cares which politician says what? to me, they are all the same; they are going to screw me anyway. During the election I didn't hear the tax part; I guess it came as an afterthought. I say, legalize the stuff, and let the people decide if they want grow it themselves or buy it, else it's a cash grab.

Growing it yourself would be via a permit that would take the place of buying said product. Blue cross needs to add it to their list of covered medications.

The pot laws are a form of prohibition that didn't work for booze either
It is a social issue and these situations will not be overcome by laws.
Booze, smoking, pot, prostitution will never be overcome by passing
a law it makes criminals go underground and victims of the offenses
without recourse and that is never positive. The law should have been
rescinded long ago. There have been advocates for this in all parties.

Amazing how many people consider themselves to be, and brag about being, very smart. Too bad they need drugs and alcohol so much.

90% of the sales because they are the 'factory' and the taxes replaces lost income and a little more. 10% are grow at home permits with a max of the cultivation equal to what you smoke a month per year. That would allow cross breeding and at harvest time the gov will want the seeds to prevent plants that are not taxed being all over. If hemp is also grown the testing equipment for both brands would be abundant and therefore cheap for everybody so there are no surprises and each plant that is harvested would have a place for that specific strength of THC. From the field to the market it i$ worth $eparating the plant into two different product$ and the leave$ $hould be left out in the field so the next crop is even better fed.

Real conservatives do not have reverse gears.
It only feels like reverse because they have run out of steam and are no longer accelerating.

Industrial hemp will save us well me at least. Very good stuff, excellent fuel excellent period, Canada should be covered in hemp.

DuPont will not allow that to happen.....

As candidates for the Conservative Party's leadership race continue to line up, an issue has emerged that many thought the Tories had put to bed a long time ago — the legalization of marijuana

Maxime Bernier injected a slightly unexpected element into the race when he suggested he was leaning toward supporting a Liberal motion to legalize possession of marijuana for recreational use.

"I think it must be time to have a discussion with that," he told Rosemary Barton, host of CBC News Network's Power & Politics. "I am happy that this government will bring a bill."

"I am more for it" than against it, he said. "It depends how the government will do it. At the end I will decide whether I will vote for it or against it. But I am more toward — for — that."

That position sets Bernier at odds with his party's long-held opposition to loosening the laws against recreational use of marijuana.

According to Vote Compass, CBC's voter-engagement survey, about 37 per cent of Conservative voters in the last election said they supported the full legalization of marijuana.

Another 38 per cent of Conservatives supported the NDP's position of decriminalization of marijuana — a step short of legalization that would treat pot possession similar to a traffic offence.

Only a quarter of Conservative voters agreed with Harper's position that marijuana possession should remain a criminal offence — a number that drops to 14 per cent across all voters.

On the other side of the debate is Bernier's only other declared rival, former minister of labour Dr. Kellie Leitch. She is one of the few Conservatives who have continued to thunder against the impending legalization of marijuana since the party's electoral defeat in October 2015.

Also sending out mixed signals is interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose.

As Harper's health minister, Ambrose often found herself fronting the party's anti-legalization approach, including the "reefer madness" strategy of linking marijuana use to mental illness.

So an interview she gave in January to Vancouver radio station CKNW caused considerable confusion about her position.

"Health minister who spent millions of your $ on misleading ads against pot wants us to legalize faster," tweeted Trudeau's principal secretary Gerald Butts.

It remains to be seen whether marijuana will become an issue in the Tory leadership race, or if members who dissent from the official party line will be able to express those views in Parliament.
