Conservatives grapple with hot-button resolutions

Right at the top of the list:

Who said they were not interested in your health.

Oops,,,,,,,,,,,,,8Owaitaminute!!!

""One of the policy resolutions says the provinces and territories should be encouraged to consider new ways of delivering health care, such as the use of both the public and private sector.""

Notwithstanding the National Health Act. Well, it's only a goddam piece of paper, eh!!

Keep yer ass to the wall on this one. Save yer money for them doctor visits and all.

My prediction. Within a year, we will have private insurers a la Georgie Bushy taking over the steak in health care. num num. This sh!t's gonna taste good.

Can't say this was part of a "hidden agenda" as every time Harpo opens his drooly little mouth for more than a minute, publicandprivate, yep, publicandprivate vomit out.

:angry3:....we need a good 5 cent cigar.

Now, I've not yet been convinced that private delivery is the way to go, but the idea does not scare me........

And, BTW, we've had private delivery of health care in this country for decades......it is an integral part of the system.......and has been for a long time.

As long as the private health clinics still take my Health Card, what does it matter to me? I'm inclined to think it's they who are finding fewer pockets to pick who are doing the most doomsaying.

I've been going to private vendors for things like blood tests and x-rays for a good long while.

We also use a private lab for blood tests; faster, accepts the health card, except for the PSA test which is an insignificant little thing affecting men only, so very unimportant, but:

My greatest fear is that "private/public" will become "private/private", and we will join the millions of the great unwashed in the US who are without health care.

But, Steve's in charge. No CEO's will fall between the cracks. Not to fret.

Nuggler, if Harper had got a majority, he may well have tried something like that. I have a nagging suspicion, that while Harper is governing from right of centre, at heart he belongs to the right, he adores, adulates the Republican Party in USA, George Bush. Given the chance, he may try to emulate USA in most things.

So I can well imagine a majority conservative government trying to abolish universal health care and go for American type free for all, ‘health care only for shoe who can afford to pay for it’ system. But currently he is hamstrung with a minority government.

Incidentally, this exposes the weakness of Harper as a leader. After last prolonged liberal rule, Mulroney managed to get two back to back majorities; Harper has not managed even one.

Oh, Gimme a break!

Look, I was a member of the Reform Party before they had an MP, then a member of the CA, now of the Conservative Party of Canada. I am on the right wing of that party.

I would not accept the loss of universal health care. Any party that attempted to desroy the ability of the disadvantaged in this country to easy access to health care would lose my vote....permanently.

And everyone else I know agrees with that stance.

Universal Health care is a given. Even among the Conservative Party.

Even with Harper......who is quite a bit to the left of me on social issues.......

The constant yammering about losing health care under the Conservatives is fear-mongering aimed at the not-too-bright.

In a nutshell........belief in easy access to health care is universal in Canada. The Conservatives want to get re-elected, in fact they want to become the new Natural Governing Party in this country........therefore Universal Health Care is very, very safe.

Colpy, Harper is neither on the left nr the right on social issues; he wants to win elections first and foremost.

He did briefly flirt with the right wing initially when it comes to social issues, issues such as abortion, gay marriage etc. However, he learned within short order that if he is going to have a realistic chance of winning in Ontario and Quebec, he better adopt liberal positions on social issues, or at least adopt a policy of benign neglect.

His transformation started when he promised that he won’t use the Notwithstanding Clause to stop same sex marriage. That was one of the main reasons why he picked up support in Ontario and Quebec.

Then when he came to power, he made a half hearted attempt to get rid of SSM, just so he could say to religious right that he tried.

If Harper thought that restricting abortion or getting rid of SSM will get him votes, he will do it in a heartbeat.

So I am not sure that Harper is to your left on social issues, he wants to win, first and foremost. He will adopt positions that will let him win.

Within limits, I agree.

So it is with every successful political party.

And, that is why Universal Health Care is perfectly safe under a Conservative national gov't.

Which was my point.

Actually, IMHO, which is just as valid as yours, pointing out where Harper has been and where he'd like to go is far from "constant yammering". You'd likely know more than I about the not-too-bright.

I really hope you're correct about this, for if it comes it will be carved in stone and neither the Cons nor the Libs will change it.

But I can't prove I'm right, and you can't prove I'm wrong, and I'm not going round and round on this in CC fashion, as it proves nothing, just gives fodder to the fools to play with. And what we say in here is very very unimportant, and changes nothing.

Reminiscent of Don Quixote.
