In what some are calling a “sickening” display of anti-Semitism, the student government at UCLA interrogated a young student about the fact she is Jewish, and nearly scrapped her acceptance to its group because of her religious heritage.

Student Rachel Beyda this month applied to be a member of the UCLA Judicial Board, and while members initially agreed she was qualified to hold a position, the meeting devolved into discussion of a potential “conflict of interest.”

The four students who opposed Beyda’s candidacy were Fabienne Roth, Manjot Singh, Negeen Sadeghi-Movahed and Sofia Moreno Haq.

Roth started the inquisition by asking whether Beyda could hold an “unbiased” view.

“Given that you are a Jewish student and very active in the Jewish community,” Roth asked Beyda, “How do you see yourself being able to maintain an unbiased view?”

Beyda was asked to leave the room, and as she paced outside the door, a long, heated discussion took place.

“What followed was a disgusting 40 minutes of what can only be described as unequivocal anti-Semitism during which some of our council members resorted to some of the oldest accusations against Jews, including divided loyalties and dishonesty,” said Beyda’s roommate, Rachel Frenklak, who published an op-ed in the campus newspaper, the Daily Bruin.

“All council members swiftly agreed Rachel was amply qualified for the position, but half of the council had strong reservations stemming from Rachel’s Jewish identity.”

Doesn't seem as though the four students questioning her candidacy hold unbiased views, so why are they so concerned if she can? Oh right, because she may not hold the same unbiased views as they do.

My bias can beat up your bias any day of the week and twice on Sunday. So there.

Isnt it funny how some people can make judgements about others simply based on their faith. I'm sure glad that doesn't happen here.

Does her religion or ideology believe in the subjugation of women, hanging homosexuals or throwing them off a cliff, want to kill everyone who is not part of their religion or enslave them??

So, if you follow that kind of cultist ideology, and defend it.. you will be judged.

Anyone who claims they want equal rights for women and homosexuals, then defends Islam is a Hypocrite.

UCLA is a Liberal shytehole.

It's only in a small group of Hasidic Jews, but they don't stone them if they don't. ;)
it's not small...it's large

that's what all of the hoopla was concerning the wailing wall...

they can fight and die for their country but there are limits

Women of the Wall (Hebrew: נשות הכותל, Neshot HaKotel) is a multi-denominational feminist[1] organization based in Israel whose goal is to secure the rights of women to pray at the Western Wall in a fashion that includes singing, reading aloud from the Torah and wearing religious garments (tallit, tefillin and kippah). The Pew Forum has identified Israel as one of the countries that places "high" restrictions on religion,[2] and there have been limits placed on non-Orthodox streams of Judaism.

Don't know and don't care. I'll judge the woman on her own merits not somebdy else's preconcieved ideas of what they think she believes.

Can't disagree there.

Anyone who claims they want equal rights for women and homosexuals, then defends Islam is a Hypocrite.

Anybody that makes blanket statements about what "Muslims" believe or don't believe is silly.

UCLA is a Liberal shytehole.

Don't know, never been there.

Speaking of hypocrites. Why are you so willing to tar all Muslims with the lowest common denominator but not Jews or Christians, for that matter?

Actually, in my opinion, it's the opposite. Jews and Christians are tarred with the lowest common denominator and Islamists (i.e. Muslims) get away with it.

That's the issue is with these bloody "extremists" who happen to be Muslim. Poor babies - they're so deprived....must be the Jews and Christians fault!!

Now I emphasize that OBVIOUSLY NOT ALL MUSLIMS are extremists, but unfortunately to some people on this forum, ALL Jews and All Christians are. That's just the way it is....and it's extremely frustrating.

You actually believe that most people see Christians in the same light as the Westborough Baptist Church idiots. I think you're confused

No, I'm not confused. Have you read some of the Post here on CC? OMG - where have you been. That's exactly what some (and I emphasize some) see Christians and, especially, Jews.

Northern Ontario,
I've never heard of women members of the Knights Of Columbus although they have lots of activities where the whole family is involved...so it must be a sexist organization:roll:

You're not fooling anybody. We all read stories about the Westboro Baptist Church and we all know that all Christians are the same and believe the same things. Boomer says so, so take it up with him if you disagree
