Ah, that explains it then. You were merely offering an off-topic observation.

Don't get your panties all in a bunch .. I am only offering-up the very same argument and logic that the goomba's feel is fair game.

So, for clarity's sake, perhaps we can narrow down this issue by you identifying what events or advances were made in the name of atheism?

Freedom from the mind numbing slavery of religion.

Is it religion that is the bummer or is it religious dogma. I have no problems trampling on religion but I won't trash your spirituality which has more value than anything on the planet. If Satan worship is your schtick and it brings you happiness and a goal in life then so be it but when you start putting forth laws based in your belief and push it on others then you've reached the point of no return. I'll gladly accept you spirituality but be damned if I'll accept your dogma.

Advances? I don't think any advances have ever been made in the name of atheism or any religion; unless you're counting the number of maidens burned at the stake. Real advances, like nutmeg flavoured coffee creamers are usually made in the name of practicality, not religious zeal or the absence of it. I do know one thing regarding atheism and that it generally has not gotten in the way of societal and technical advances, unlike most religions.

BTW I don't wear panties. Sometimes I don't even wear pants.

This is the point I am really driving at. While there are well documented examples of violence in the name of some religion, by in large, those are relics from a dark past that is now ancient history... It is very clear that the position of a number of posters is founded on much rhetoric and intangible arguments that have little contemporary relevance. Case in point, Spade sees fit to base Hitler's "Final Solution" as an expression of Christianity as opposed to the real underlying reasons that have no basis on mainstream theological ideology.

That said, is it not fair that I ask the very same questions of any other philosophy or belief system (incl. atheism) in reference to specific events or is that privilege granted to only those that wish to sit on the sidelines and berate all those that don't hold the same values as them?

And, "Thank a pinko for winning the War!"

Do you think there has been a resurfacing of the Holy Roman Empire once again?

Not just any pinkos but women pinkos.

This one received the Medal of Glory from Stalin himself.

Dear Spade.

Not many have ever heard of the Holy Roman Empire or it's roots.

Get well soon.

Pete.

Why not get right down to the historical roots? The Persians? The Greeks? The Egyptians?

Ancient antisemitism, part one

Interesting bit about the Ancient Greeks, no?

I can't help but wonder if this inclusion of new info might redirect your angst from organized religion onto Plato or Socrates?

You can not say that for certain, but alas, I await the wholesale condemnation of the ancient Greeks and all the stand/stood for as being the root cause for Hitler's theological basis for exterminating the Jews.

It all started with this guy who said this:

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+8&version=NIV

I don't recall Him or his Boss calling off the New Testament or backing down from those very harsh and critical words. If they had of paid attention to what this Guy and His Boss they wouldn't be in the big ol' heap of **** now would they?

It is because organized religion (and in NA that is largely a myriad of Christian sects) eschews introspection; organized religion paints introspection as heresy. Beware the quenched candle! Or the grumpy imam!
