I do not disagree with what you suggest, however, look way back to the roots of Christianity or Islam and I believe that you could state that it was essentially spirituality. Ultimately, today's mainstream religions began as a form of spirituality, but over the centuries, they evolved and the political elements morphed as they became more popular and gained more support.

Then we could say that religion is politicized spirituality. There! We agree on something. Have a great day.

Petros, would you like to buy some miracle water? Not only can you drink it to cure chronic hypohydration, you can use it as a universal solvent. Please send cheque to Spade, General Delivery, Aether Island!

Reminds me:

There were three friends, all handicapped. One blind, one deaf and one confined to a wheel-chair. After they realized that medical science could not help their affliction any more, they decided to try the miracle waters of Lourdes.

They traveled there and they were astonished to hear about all the miracles. Ailing people cured. Deaf hear again. Blind see again.

With nothing to lose, they decided to give it a try.

First, the blind one dunks his head in the water, and upon raising it, MIRACLE, he can see!!!

Next, the deaf one immerses himself in the water and when he emerges, MIRACLE he can hear again!!!

Well, the one in the wheel-chair was anxious to go next. He wheels his chair in the water and when he wheeled out everyone witnessed a MIRACLE: The wheel-chair had brand new tires!!

Wish I could give you more than one greenie for that one, it strikes me as profoundly and movingly true. If you haven't read Richard Dawkins' Unweaving the Rainbow, I heartily recommend it to your attention. It's about the spiritual side of being a scientist, and the awe, poetry, and wonder it provokes in a properly sensitive mind. Reality as science has found it to be is vastly richer and more complex than any religion has ever imagined it to be.
They used to call the spiritual side of science alchemy and it was punishable by death.

Few know that the alchemist is the lead and the goal is for the alchemist to turn his spirit to gold not some magical BS of turning actual lead into gold.

Some claimed to be alchemists and did tricks of magic to make money and fool many and that is no different than todays evangelical charlatans who are only in it for money and fame.
