Well the elites and intellectuals, writers and artist, and poets, the movie makers, the best and the brightest just love Castro.
We've seen why.
He is quite an interesting fellow, quite the charmer.
Just an aside, The American National Park Service, for the first time in history will designate a national park outside of United States: The Hemingway home in Cuba.

It's more than just Castro being interesting and charismatic, Jim. He has survived all of the assaults launched on him by the US. He has done it even with crippling sanctions in place. He has done it even while losing his most powerful ally. Castro has successfully stood up against the United States though thick and thin, and he still has massive popular support among his people.
Chavez seems to be doing very much the same thing, but Chavez's support comes from governments outside of Venezuela as well as his own people.
