Right castro is a failure...funny how cuba is more respected than your government is...At least he does not try to pretend he is anything but what he is.

Yes, he is more respected than the Canadian government, isn't he?

Castro's a millionaire BTW. Or did you not know he was pretending to be one of the people.

Well the elites and intellectuals, writers and artist, and poets, the movie makers, the best and the brightest just love Castro.

We've seen why.

He is quite an interesting fellow, quite the charmer.

Just an aside, The American National Park Service, for the first time in history will designate a national park outside of United States: The Hemingway home in Cuba.

Hemingway loved Castro, but enjoyed the nightlife of Batista.

It's more than just Castro being interesting and charismatic, Jim. He has survived all of the assaults launched on him by the US. He has done it even with crippling sanctions in place. He has done it even while losing his most powerful ally. Castro has successfully stood up against the United States though thick and thin, and he still has massive popular support among his people.

Chavez seems to be doing very much the same thing, but Chavez's support comes from governments outside of Venezuela as well as his own people.

Every charmer has his mystique, and even the ones who don't buy it admit that he has something but it is not enough to warrant the embrace he so often gets from the intellectual community.

Castro is the kind of cat that laughs secretly at all the images, all of the analysis done by those on the right and on the left. It's all to his favor, and no one is the wiser.

Chavez will follow the Castro model one better for he won't be beholding to a corrupt Soviet fist.

These two are lightning rods.

Each ideological side will see what it wants to see in these characters.

And they're loaded with links to prove it.

The best links are to the press in South America.

The most interesting thing about both Chavez and Castro is the immense popular support they have garnered. Castro could still be elected if he ran elections. I've never understood why he didn't do that to shut up his critics. Chavez has won several elections, and those in other countries riding on his coattails have won as well.

They dislike him because he doesn't work for the corporate elite. Supporting poor people and workers makes one dangerous in the eyes of Bush regime and other money nazis around the planet.
