I love the hutzpah of Chavez doing a propaganda victory with the citizens of Boston. Well done.

Do I think this guy is as glorious you all say?

No.

It is too casual an acceptance of one man to believe he can change around a culture, an economy, and still maintain the democratic spirit you all uphold.

I would think twice investing a million dollars down there.

I'm not sure what next GREAT BRIGHT IDEA this man of the people might do.

And there is really no structural check on any of his NEXT IDEAS.

Philosopher King?

No.

I think the King of Jordan is closest to that idea.

Chavez's cheap oil for US poor angers Washington

Venezuela's President, Hugo Chavez, has pulled off his greatest public relations coup yet in his campaign to irritate the Bush Administration with a deal to supply cheap fuel to thousands of poor residents of Boston and New York.

To the anger of many in Washington, Citgo Petroleum Corporation, a company controlled by the Venezuelan Government, will supply more than 45 million litres of oil at 40 per cent below market prices.

Story...

RE: Chavez ... Human Righ

Thats great of Chavez to do that.

Funny how a forgein government can do that, when the low income peoples own government can not. But yet we all saw what US Government thinks of poor people during Katrina and the aftermath.

Some heating oil for poor in the Bronx as well.

 Pure theatre, nothing more! Don't tell me you fall for this sh?t. What's next, bread for the poor in Saskatoon? This is all about showing up Bush & Co., not about helping people. There are millions of people starving all over the world, including in Chavez' backyard. If he truly cared about people he would sell the oil, and donate the $ to the real needy.

RE: Chavez ... Human Righ

CITGOs profits...and they still make a profit even at the reduced rates...go to help the poor in Venezuela, MMMikey. That's not to mention that the press releases about them helping the poor in the US with heating costs act as advertising for CITGO, which produces more profits to help the poor in Venezuela.

Is it political theatre? Yeah. Chavez is using it to both drive his Bolivarian Revolution and influence US public opinion to protect himself from Bush. It also provides help to the US poor, the Venezuelan poor, and poor people around the world. Would you deny them help because of your ideological stance?

Was there a deal at all, missile? I thought it was NB Power that f'ed up bigtime, by retrofitting the plants for Orimulsion before even having a deal.

Chevey pulls off the political coup of our times.... and Washington is whining about it.. .....

Does that mean that Washington does not want its own citizens to have oil /heat at a reasonable rate so even the poor can be comfortable???

that is exactly what washingtons reaction (anger) is suggesting. Seems they cannot take care of their own poor and here comes a helping hand........( CLEVER on Chevey's part) He is not only helping HIS own poor but the US poor. A win win.....strategy..

(bet that stings.... as it sure got to bend that arrogant ego some .... )

Washington would be smart to be gracious and grateful..

( a snowballs chance in "hell" )

Venezuela signs Spain arms deal

A teaser:

Spain has concluded a controversial arms deal with Venezuela to supply military equipment worth $2bn.

The signing in Caracas was attended by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Spain's Defence Minister, Jose Bono.

Under the deal, Spain will supply eight navy patrol boats and 12 military transport planes to Venezuela.

Then this:

The United States had tried to block the signing for the last week, saying that Mr Chavez is a source of instability in the region.

and:

US ambassador Eduardo Aguirre had asked the Spanish authorities not to go ahead with the sale.

He said Washington was considering whether to allow Spain to sell aircraft made with US technology, which would require a US export licence.

Gee it seems to me the Bush Crime Family causes instability in the world. Actually they are the biggest cause.

During the ceremony, which was broadcast on Venezuelan state TV, President Chavez said attempts by Washington to sabotage the deal were an example of the US trying to impose its will over the world.

Right on and well said. It is the truth.

Chevez is one SMART dude. He knows exactly the kind of dirty games the US-the saboteur plays......and has played for years.

Meddle , sabotage, interfere and destroy.......

If the US imploded tomorrow.........not sure many would care all that much anymore. Might be a major international adjustment......but the world will survive.......and maybe see that there is NO need for one super power....with a massive military that continues to abuse...

The USA just wants to control the world's resources for their own benifit and the rest of the planet be dammed.

The US government have shown what a bunch of low life hypocritical bastards they really are.

They have and support all these third world puppet dictatorship which are human rights violating countries, yet they try to bring "so called freedom and democracey" to Iraq ( a former allie who had a leader they backed) by using the same standards they accuse Saddam of doing and what their controlled puppet governments do everyday.

The US government would of continued to turn a blind eye to Saddam if he would of agreed to supply USA with cheap oil.

If the US government would drop the belligerant and superiority attitude and decided to work with all the other countries of this world, we would be better off.

But since they have a president that suffers from "small penis syndrome" this won't happen anytime soon.

Sad very sad the US government can not put their ego aside for the common good.

that is called "rape"....... and IS "rape'

the US could care less about another nations "freedom" or democracy........ and that has never been on the agenda. Just more spin, lies to keep the sheeple "believing".......and following...............that being programmed .....that is what they do. Those that speak out......are quickly silenced or bashed with the most vile of language.

Very sick.......the gov't , and the society that supports it.

( the big joke is that so many of these greedmongers claim to be "religious". One has to assume that their "god"/ religion is MONEY /Power and everything they are conditioned /programmed to do........revolves around those two things.

(greed and power .........were the major character flaws of Rome when things started to get out of control.........and history will repeat ......but no way of knowing how or when)
