We've got a pretty good game going between the RBs and the Bombers, Tec. Not particularly high-scoring but there have been some nifty plays and best of all - the league changed the rules about video review this past week. Coaches have a single challenge for the entire game - if they lose they forfeit one of their two time-outs. This is wonderful news for fans as coaches were abusing the rule to the extent that back-to-back challenges were starting to become routine. Now we are back to the same shitty reffing we've always had but the game is once again moving at a good pace.

3rd Q: 23 - 17 RBs with just under 6 minutes left in the quarter

Mr Clutch aka Justin Medlock was once again the hero of the game for the Bombers as he came through with a +30 FG through the pouring rain to give Winnipeg a 33 - 30 win over the RBs. In addition to his winning kick, another FG from the around the 40 helped the Bombers tie the game. Medlock has been so solid. I wish we had kept him on the Riders team and let him mature into the kicker he is today, he's a weapon.

Just tuned into the Ti-Cat vs Eskies game as it began while the Hoovers were playing the Redblacks. Hamilton is ahead 8 - 6 after a great TD by Ti-Cat Aultman and a 2-pt convert by Tasker - and Zach threw the pass to Tasker on the run and under pressure.

Eskies take a 5 point lead as the clock winds down to :02 seconds in the 1rst Q

Lions vs Riders

Duron Carter and Brandon Bridge saved us from total ignominy when they came through with a pair of TDs in the final minutes of the 4th Q. Carter made what is fast becoming one of his trademark spectacular catches in the end zone for the first TD and Brandon after connecting with Duron on the 1rst TD went over the goal line himself for the second.

Brandon came in after Kev gave up his second interception of the game late in the 4th.

A valiant effort for a losing cause. The Lions prowled their way to a 30 - 15 win.

Correction: Brandon threw the TD to Naaman Roosevelt and went over himself for the 2-pt convert. My apologies to Naaman.

So visited Regina last week and drove by 2 fully functional Mosaic Stadiums. Which is being used? The new one or the one which still bears its real name "Taylor Field"?

Where did you look from, SK Drive?

Came off SK drive (heading west). Turned right (North) on Elphanstone. On the left was the new one. All spiffy. On the right was the old "Taylor Field" (although both were labelled Mosaic Stadium). My question is which one is currently in use and if the old one, when do they move to the new one and tear down the old one?

As for the old stadium the east side will be dropped this week.

They had to get all the copper out before the Injuns stole it....again.

They are re-broadcasting the game today and I am going to enjoy every single minute of it even knowing the outcome already. Our power was out yesterday so didn't get to see it live but a friend I was talking to told me about the win for my guys. Go Riders! Go Gainey!

So I am sitting here watching my Riders make mincemeat out of both the offense and defense of the Lions............wondering where the hell these guys came from. They had their total shit together from the outset of the game, fps.......what's with them? They should at least have had multiple penalties, a poorly thrown ball that ends up in an interception or didn't provide Kev with the proper protection ......none of that so far. So just who are these heroes in green............whoever they are...........I like them.

In that case, IRBS...........I pick this Universe........the other one sucks.

Talk about firing on all cylinders..........the Riders shone in every category..........even special teams were outstanding. I am so happy they won this one at home - great night for Riders fans in the stadium. Oh, and Chris Jones - you did good tonight man - kudos to a well-coached game.

And Ed Gainey............he was a total ball-hawk.........all....night......long. What a performance.

The Eskimo's perfect record is no more, broken by the will and consistently good play-calling and delivery on the field by the Bombers. They were solid on defense, offense and special teams. Going into the second half, the Bombers led 17 - 3. By the end of the 3rd, it was 27 - 17. The Eskimos found some mojo in the 4th scoring a TD and a FG but that is all they would get. Hoovers took this one 33 - 26.

Andrew Harris rushed for over 100 yards and had 100 receptions on the night - a first ever for Andrew and a big part of the Bombers win. Matt Nichols threw for 390 yards, completed 32 of 40 pass attempts and is credited with 2 TDs - one of which he ran in himself.

Big kudos to the CFL for their Diversity is Strength campaign. I've ordered myself a T and was surprised how economical it was.

Watching the Lions and the Stamps right now. Up until late in the 2nd Q, the game was more a comedy of errors than anything recognizable as football. There have been three interceptions in the game already. Neither Jennings nor Mitchell seem able to mount a sustained drive. It is 9 - 8 at the half for the Stamps - whose points all came off FGs. Mitchell's 32% pass completion record is the worst in his career.

Should be an interesting 2nd half.

The Riders offense went to work on their second possession of the game scoring a TD at the end of a solid drive ending in a highlight reel catch by Roosevelt in the end zone. Not to be outdone, the defence put 7 of their own on the board after a blocked Eskimo punt was picked up by a Rider defensive end and taken into the end zone for the second TD off a TO for the Riders who lead 14 zip with a minute twenty left in the 1rst.

So now we have 2 TDs off TOs and a TD off a blocked punt return that taken 113 to the end zone by none other than Duron Carter

Riders put another 3 on the board and lead 19 - 6.

Riders lead 26 - 6 at the end of the first half...............you read that right............Riders are actually leading the Eskimos.

In actuality, Duron ran a total of 157 yards during that blocked punt return. He picked the ball off the turf where it had fallen by the goal post and started running to the right pulling Eskimos defenders with him then, he made a sharp turn to the left and ran all the way back to the other side of the end zone narrowly escaping the clutches of the few remaining Eskimo defenders on that side of the field before he found open space and from there on had the turf entirely to himself. He could have walked the ball in the last 20 yards. It was, a thing of beauty. Gainey has come close 3 times to interceptions while preventing the Esk receiver from a completion. Roosevelt has 7 catches to his credit. Bagg has a couple of biggies for 1rst downs. Grant has been tapped. Marshall has over 50 yards on the ground and is credited with our 4th TD. The Rider defence have made taken some really stupid and costly penalties but, have so far managed to keep the Esks from scoring other than the 1 TD and have been constantly pressuring Reilly.

Rider O lagging a bit in the 3rd but D hangin' tough so far.

Uh, the Riders just scored another TD off a TO and lead the Esks 33 - 7 with less than 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd.

Oh, oh..............Riders just got another TD off a TO again by the defence. 40 - 7 end of the 3rd. Rogers the hero on this one.

I don't think the Eskimos believed that Saskatchewan had it in them and for that mistake they are paying dearly, so far.

Well there you go, the Esks just got one back when our punt returner fumbled the ball and after several attempts by both sides to corral it an Eskimo player finally fell on it in the end zone.

Okay, so now the Riders back-up QB Vernon Adams has himself a TD and he ran the ball in himself.

47 - 15 with 6 and a half to go in the final Q

3:22 and Esks narrow the gap - now down by 24 points

Make the final 54 to 31 for the guys in Green and White. Esks got another TD with but it was too little too late for Edmonton.

Ticats hire Art Briles, who was fired after sex assault scandal at Baylor
The Canadian Press
First posted: Monday, August 28, 2017 12:17 PM EDT
HAMILTON - Art Briles, who was fired last year as the head football coach at Baylor in the wake of a sexual assault scandal within his program, has joined the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats as an assistant offensive head coach.
June Jones, who replaced Kent Austin as head coach last week, made the announcement Monday. Austin remains with Hamilton as its vice-president of football operations.
Briles, 61, comes to the CFL with over 35 years of coaching experience, including stints as head coach at Houston (2003-07) and Baylor (2008-15). But Baylor’s football program came under fire in 2016 when it was revealed university officials failed to take action following alleged sexual assaults.
A report found the football program under Briles mishandled multiple allegations of sexual assault against players.
After being fired Briles sued the school, but later dropped the suit.
Briles accumulated a 99-65 overall record as an NCAA head coach and was 3-6 in bowl games. He led Baylor to Big 12 championships in 2013 and 2014 and coached the school’s only Heisman winner, quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Hamilton (0-8) is the CFL’s only winless team. Jones will make his Ticats’ head-coaching debut Sept. 4 against the arch-rival Toronto Argonauts at Tim Hortons Field.

Stinson: Tiger-Cats stunningly hire Art Briles — and then reverse decision
By Scott Stinson, Postmedia Network
First posted: Monday, August 28, 2017 04:22 PM EDT | Updated: Monday, August 28, 2017 11:15 PM EDT
When the press release arrived that announced the Hamilton Tiger-Cats had hired Art Briles, my immediate response was: is there another Art Briles?
Because, I mean, I just, it doesn’t … Art Freaking Briles?
But no, same guy. That would be the same Art Briles who was fired by Baylor University in Texas just 15 months ago amid what was one of the biggest sexual-assault scandals in U.S. college sports history, a history that does not lack for horrible examples of such.
The same Art Briles who, while maintaining he has done nothing wrong, nevertheless was the head man at a football program that, by Baylor’s own admission, saw at least 19 players accused of more than a dozen incidents of sexual assault or domestic assault, including allegations of gang rape, in the five years prior to Briles’ dismissal.
Those numbers have since been dwarfed by a lawsuit alleging 52 sexual assaults, involving 31 players, over a four-year period. That lawsuit is still ongoing, although one former Baylor football player was convicted of multiple sexual assaults, while another was convicted, had that overturned, and is awaiting a new trial.
The Baylor scandal was appalling in the specifics, such as the conclusion by outside investigators that Briles and others in the athletics department had learned of an alleged gang rape involving football players and “failed to take appropriate action” — which meant it wasn’t reported to investigators — and it was appalling in the wider picture, which was that the football team was routinely protected from punishment even as alcohol-fuelled parties were used as a recruiting tool.
It just wouldn’t do to have something as awkward as a rape accusation come out of one of those parties, so best to keep everyone quiet. The scandal also claimed the school’s athletic director and chancellor. It was a huge deal.
So, yes, that Art Briles. His hiring was to be formally addressed on Tuesday by June Jones, who has only been with the Tiger-Cats for a month and who was promoted to head coach just last week, at a press conference in Hamilton. The key word in that statement is “was.”
Late Monday, about 10 hours after the Briles appointment was announced, a joint statement from the CFL and the Tiger-Cats said that the former coach would no longer be joining the team and the league. “We came to this decision this evening following a lengthy discussion between the league and the Hamilton organization,” the statement said. “We wish Mr. Briles all the best in his future endeavours.”
That statement came a few hours after the league had said it was “in discussions” with the Tiger-Cats about the hiring, which itself came not long after team CEO Scott Mitchell had defended the move to Drew Edwards of the Hamilton Spectator, telling him that Briles was “a good man caught in a very bad situation” and that “people deserve second chances.” Mitchell also said the CFL was aware of the move, Edwards reported.
We are left to wonder, then, what Jones, and more importantly, his bosses, were thinking. The Canadian Football League has in recent days been positively basking in the glow of its “Diversity is Strength” campaign, an initiative in which coaches and players wear shirts with that motto and names of CFLers with a mix of racial backgrounds. They are right to be proud of it.
The timing of the campaign was moved up in a none-too-subtle attempt to comment on the divisive racial issues at play in the United States today, and the league deservedly has won praise for its efforts. New commissioner Randy Ambrosie even managed to get some CNN interview time to talk up the league’s message.
CFL executives have also said in recent months that they know they must try to grow the league’s appeal beyond its traditional older male demographic — the Ti-Cats were non-ironically promoting a “Huddles and Heels” women’s football clinic on Monday — and two years ago the league unveiled a policy to combat violence against women that included the possibility of lifetime bans for players found to have committed such acts. “In the face of a report of violence against a woman perpetrated by any CFL employee, we will always take it seriously,” then-commissioner Jeffrey Orridge said at the time. “Doing nothing will never be an option.” The most charitable interpretation of Briles’ time at Baylor is that he did nothing.
The Tiger-Cats are a private business, as is the league, and they have the right to hire whomever they choose. But that freedom also comes with the right to be blasted for their decisions, which is where we are with this one. Hamilton is a struggling team in a winless season, so one can understand the desire for more outside help.
But there must be hundreds of qualified coaches who could give Jones a hand, every one of them not recently fired from a job in which his employers said he failed to properly respond to allegations of the rape of college students by players in his charge.
It was a bizarre, confounding choice of a coach to help lead a turnaround. Which everyone involved apparently realized the more they tried to defend it.
