So by their reckoning construction workers are in the top 10%. Most of the rest would be bureaucraps of one stripe or another. The Mode ( https://www.purplemath.com/modules/meanmode.htm ) average wage is about $35,000/year or about $18/hour. The Mean average is about $56,000/year or about $27/hour.
According to StatsCan, the top 10% of Canadians made an average income of $134,900, with the top 5% making one third more ($179,800) and the top 1% almost triple that amount ($381,300). Meanwhile, the bottom 90% had an average income of $28,000.

So? Have the ratios changed much? Those figures are from 2010 , so the average wages will be higher now . But the figures are spread over many groups and wages are not the only sources of income .
The last I heard, construction was a seasonal job. $135K for a few months out of the year is pretty good.So by their reckoning construction workers are in the top 10%. Most of the rest would be bureaucraps of one stripe or another.
Don’t know , just stating what I read in the posted study .So? Have the ratios changed much?
You heard wrong. Or you live in the wrong place. Not talking about building houses. You will remain poor doing that. Heavy construction work never stops. The TBM job I was working on last year isn't even stopping for Christmas. Even had a shift change on Christmas day.The last I heard, construction was a seasonal job. $135K for a few months out of the year is pretty good.
I think buying power is a more significant factor than wage averages. Even at 28 thou, most people are struggling to get by.
$135 K is still high pay even for heavy machine operators. https://www.payscale.com/research/CA/Job=Heavy_Equipment_Operator/Hourly_RateYou heard wrong. Or you live in the wrong place. Factor in camp wages and overtime hours and it is not a stretch .$135 K is still high pay even for heavy machine operators. https://www.payscale.com/research/CA/Job=Heavy_Equipment_Operator/Hourly_Rate

So camp wages and overtime are the norm or the exception to the rule? I think the people in the links were referring to normal work weeks.Factor in camp wages and overtime hours and it is not a stretch .
A regular work week in industrial? That doesn't happen. So camp wages and overtime are the norm or the exception to the rule? I think the people in the links were referring to normal work weeks.
I am not sure , however when I worked in certain industries it was the OT that paid the bills .So camp wages and overtime are the norm or the exception to the rule? I think the people in the links were referring to normal work weeks.
I wonder what would happen to the Canadian economy if 250,000 jobs paying that well dried up in a matter of 6 months. On a "get r done" job it's usually 5 10s and 2 8s on weekends at double and triple. Add in a per diem and its easy to have a $6K week.
It's relative and subject to the industry. Like what is the "norm" for that industry?A regular work week in industrial? That doesn't happen.
Why would a job be a "get-it-done" type unless management didn't project properly? Can't blame everything on the weather. On a "get r done" job it's usually 5 10s and 2 8s on weekends at double and triple. Add in a per diem and its easy to have a $6K week.
So how many people working for $175K per year need overtime to pay the bills?I am not sure , however when I worked in certain industries it was the OT that paid the bills .
