The Mode ( https://www.purplemath.com/modules/meanmode.htm ) average wage is about $35,000/year or about $18/hour. The Mean average is about $56,000/year or about $27/hour.
According to StatsCan, the top 10% of Canadians made an average income of $134,900, with the top 5% making one third more ($179,800) and the top 1% almost triple that amount ($381,300). Meanwhile, the bottom 90% had an average income of $28,000.

So by their reckoning construction workers are in the top 10%. Most of the rest would be bureaucraps of one stripe or another.

The last I heard, construction was a seasonal job. $135K for a few months out of the year is pretty good.
You heard wrong. Or you live in the wrong place. Not talking about building houses. You will remain poor doing that. Heavy construction work never stops. The TBM job I was working on last year isn't even stopping for Christmas. Even had a shift change on Christmas day.

$135 K is still high pay even for heavy machine operators. https://www.payscale.com/research/CA/Job=Heavy_Equipment_Operator/Hourly_Rate

Political party followers often repeat the cliché that minority governments "can't get anything done" - which is, of course, nonsense.

What they really mean is that without a clear majority no party can pass any part of its ideological agenda without convincing parliament that it's worth passing - which is exactly as it should be.

Sadly our political system with its party whips, its leaders' ability to coerce and threaten their members, is prone to keeping members more aligned with the party's election potential than with the wishes of their constituents or the welfare of the nation.

Much more could be said about the bizarre irrationality of the party system. It quite destroys the potential for true democracy.

So camp wages and overtime are the norm or the exception to the rule? I think the people in the links were referring to normal work weeks.
I am not sure , however when I worked in certain industries it was the OT that paid the bills .

On a "get r done" job it's usually 5 10s and 2 8s on weekends at double and triple. Add in a per diem and its easy to have a $6K week.

I wonder what would happen to the Canadian economy if 250,000 jobs paying that well dried up in a matter of 6 months.

Just imagine....

So how many people working for $175K per year need overtime to pay the bills?
That's an exception, not the rule.
The fact is, the less income potential one has the harder life is and it is extremely hard to improve. Those born into wealth literally have it made and so they can't understand how life is for the less fortunate, especially when they are just out-for-themselves.
