Last year Oct, there was a bizzare rumor that someone ate the hungry kids who got around in the street (called flower-swallows). I think that this rumor highly reflects the worst situation(the chronical shortage of food & economic crisis)in Northkorea. Past a mid-90s, There was a severe famine and shortage of food in NK and that caused 2~3 million deads. At that time, above rumor spreaded out like now and the criminals who ate the persons got executed in public. Except for Northkorea authorities, Most of Northkoreans have been struggling to find food in all the time even in severe cold.
Especially, Northkorean soldiers are quite problem to the public because they often break into the private houses and steal people's food like corns, sweet potatoes, livestock. Recently, the internal affairs in NK have been opened in the world and the news about the movements for democracy permeates into the inside of Northkorea gradually with various means. Maybe those things made Kim Jong il hide in some place during the demonstration in Libya. I hope that we won't hear this kind of horrifying news from Northkorea anymore. to this, the world should prepare direct aids to those poor people.

8O.......... in Canada, also, a lot of people go hungry, while our politicians and bureaucrats, who figuratively eat the poor, live overstuffed lives of excess.

How much longer our apathetic population will put up with being put down is anyone's guess.............probably forever. We seem to enjoy being treated as fools.

We vote in monkeys, poseurs, criminals, liars, cheats, and various vermin. Gotta love it.

There have been societies in the past that used cannibalism to control populations and for ritualistic and religious reasons. Some people see communion in the Catholic church as a form of ritualistic cannibalism as the faithful symbolically consume the body and blood of Christ. But starvation has been the usual reason for cannibalism.

I believe that it is fair to say that in N.K.'s case, the leadership has exasperated the situation via diverting much of their existing resources towards the military complex rather than the purchase or production of food.

What makes these particular allegations especially disturbing (assuming that the reports are accurate) is that this scenario is/was entirely preventable.

Some personal testimony evidence that cannibalism may have occur in North Korea:

She went on: "When one is very hungry, one can go crazy. One woman in my town killed her 7-month-old baby, and ate the baby with another woman. That woman's son reported them both to the authorities.
"I can't condemn cannibalism. Not that I wanted to eat human meat, but we were so hungry. It was common that people went to a fresh grave and dug up a body to eat meat. I witnessed a woman being questioned for cannibalism. She said it tasted good."
Massive international food aid gradually stemmed the famine after a death toll estimated at anywhere from 300,000 to 2 million.

Which may or may not be true. If proof existed, Amnesty international would have reported it and I can't find anything. Its possible people were that desperate, but I doubt it was official state policy.

I would be very surprised if AI (or any other intl agency) were able to get access to the country with the express intent of airing dirty laundry.

The system is broken. Myself, I will soon be working as a professional where I can expense $400 meals on the corporation and the corporation will pass the costs onto you consumers. The same is true where the Government employees can expense everything onto the tax payers.

First we sold our industries down the river and with mass immigration our remaining jobs and homes. Those who are old enough will remember the $60,000 homes in Vancouver before Hong Kong millionaires; with a wink and a nod by the Liberal Party of Canada, came in and bought everything up.

Perhaps...

I know AI reports cannibalism when they are confident of accuracy:

Not North Korea:
..findings of the MONUC investigation ... revealed 117 cases of summary executions, most of which took place between 24 and 29 October, and 65 cases of rape, including the rape of children, as well as cases of torture and illegal arrests and detentions...victims "were executed, mutilated and cannibalised".. The preliminary MONUC report... was sent to the UN Security Council, whose members condemned "in the strongest terms" these "massacres and systematic violations of human rights"... among the victims of unlawful killings were Mama Fuaube, her grandson Nyongolo, a woman named Salama, her son Kebe and daughter Espola, allegedly killed by MLC forces at a Twa camp in the village of Some, around 25 kilometres outside Mambasa. Two women and two children of the Salambongo family were also reportedly killed and their body parts eaten... a Nande woman, Apoline, was reportedly forced ... to cook and eat the body of her husband, also a Nande, whom they had killed... reports of several cases of rape and other sexual torture of women and of a 12-year-old girl...committed in front of their husbands or other family members(30)...
... The deepening human rights and humanitarian crisis in ... | Amnesty International

AI and other human rights groups released many reports back on this genocidal war which killed about 5 million people from 1998-2003. Genocide continues in this large war torn country. 2002-2003 was the most recent peak in violence and atrocities. Clue: It wasn't Iraq...

Somewhere | Amnesty International

This war doesn't make the news very often.

I started a little noticed thread on this topic back on Aug 27th, 2010

From my vantage point it sounds more like your standing in a puddle of your urine and whining because no one will clean you up.

Starving indeed.

If anything we are spoiled silly in Canada. Rich eating the poor figuratively. Ha. Go live in a third world nation. If you can't afford to eat cancel your internet and buy some food.
