Canadian view of carrying weapons

I wouldn't live in a place where I felt it was necessary to be armed all the time. I have no interest in carrying a gun except when I'm hunting, which I like to do, but I wouldn't do that either if I didn't like to eat the stuff I can get that way. Actually I just like wandering around outside in the cool of autumn, I don't much care if I get anything or not and I like the fact that part of my licence fees go to wildlife conservation, but where I live there are circumstances in which being seen wandering around outside WITHOUT a gun looks suspicious.

Seems Canadians are not registering their rifles..

I wish Canada would say, all firearms are allowed, but they must be registered.. rather know who has them and who does not.

Sorta like illegals in the USA, rather know who is illegal and now working than,who is not and driving without Insurance or whatever.

Obama tried a slight fix to that.

Yes. I own 5 firearms, a .22, a .303, and 3 12 gauge shotguns of different kinds, all are duly registered, I have the necessary licences to buy ammunition for them, and more firearms if I want to, and all are properly stored as the regulations require. I never liked the gun registry, but I never thought it was part of some insidious plot to take away my guns either, it was just bureaucratic BS, but I will not knowingly be a lawbreaker. I need a license to drive a car, and to get one I had to prove I'm competent at driving, I don't see firearms as being any different in principle, I have no issue with being required to prove I'm competent to handle them.

Honestly I can't understand why anyone would have a firearm in Canada with all the regulation.. sure I suppose if I wanted to buy one in Canada I could go get my PAL, but I don't have the time or ambition.

I will stick to going to the USA to shoot and I store my guns south of the border thanks.

I don't see any issue as a dual-citizen I can go down anytime to shoot and have access to my firearms..

Well, most of us aren't dual citizens, and the regulations aren't that bad, unless you want to own something for which there's no conceivable legitimate use, like an AK-47. That's a purely anti-personnel weapon, no good for target shooting or hunting or anything except killing people.

I have a Smith & Wesson Model 59 9mm Auto that I carry 24/7 in my Tractor Trailer when I drive in the USA. Mine is made for concealed carry, it's an ex-police issue backup.

I am trying to get my ex-wife to move back to Texas with me.. maybe 1 to 2 more months and I'll be back in Texas. I miss the food, climate, people.. and culture.

And guns? The only reason you'd need that would be to defend yourself against loons who are similarly armed. Why would you want to live in a place like that? There are better solutions. And you want your ex-wife to join you? There are reasons why she's your ex-wife, that sounds like a losing plan to me.

No, just for target practice and self defense, and I like the gun.. I shot plenty, I enjoy that 9mm..

Have another .22 hand gun revolver and a few long range.. but my favorite is the 9mm.

My buddy tried to sell me a compact.. just carry it like a cell phone in you front pocket.

Well in the truck I have to keep it 2 step or 3 step.. firearm locked and ammo locked up in a different location.

When stopped, you can keep it loaded and ready.

I only once in all my time as a driver had to show it, not use it.. guy tried to break into my truck while I was a sleep in the bunk.

But in Chicago, 6 black guys tried to rob me while I was still moving.. and Atlanta, GA.

Unfortunately, as a trucker, you are out there alone in some sketchy places at times.

I will never driver in New York City, I hear of nightmares all the time from drivers.. where police escorts are needed to get out of a bad area. Fukk that. Send the new guys or Canadian there. :lol:

Being upper class I let the gun bearers carry my weapons till we are close enough for a shot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the US, carry laws vary from state to state. Can you get a blanket permit to carry in
your rig for the whole US ? If not, a person would be looking at some serious time given their mandatory minimum laws.

lots of places in the world where you can actually walk down the street without needing to carrying a gun to protect yourself..bet when I go to the mall to pick up my groceries in an hour I won't encounter a single person carrying a gun

That's not the question. The question is where can one go to be guaranteed that they will not be victimised by someone employing deadly force (gun, knife, bludgeon, or when there is a great disparity in size/fighting ability, fists)?

I would hope that you realize that when you said that, that in Canada the loons are still armed, and the rest of us, (barring a few exceptions);-)......are not.

as for you carrying, that is the culture that you live in and you are comfortable with that...it is not the culture I live in and I never want to live in that type of culture, it is foreign to me

the question was Canadian comfort with that culture....I am not comfortable with it and no amount of fear mongering will make it so

I do encourage you not to carry a gun, even should you find yourself in a place where you can. People who aren't trained and comfortable with them shouldn't.
