I guess I don't see anything wrong with actions having consequences. Is Adam an adult or a spoiled brat? It'd be great if we could all behave however we want, but, if my life doesn't work like that, I see no reason why his should. I really can't excuse him just because he's Adam. The way he's talked since then just doesn't work, for me. He's never to blame for anything.
I really wasn't apalled by anything except the mediocrity and tackiness of it all, but I understand how people could be offended. You have to respect your audience. Also, you have to know who your audience is. Eminem knows who his audience is. It isn't soccer moms and grandmas. Does Adam know who voted him to second place on AI? He should. If he doesn't, he's an idiot. If I know and you know, he should know.
The sad thing is even without the controversy, he sucked.
I wish the numbers were better, but what can you do, right?
With the amount of press Kris has gotten (none) I think he's doing pretty well.
Adam has his picture on the cover of EW this month (in a corner), his album got a full page review from them (B+), and as someone on mj's put it yesterday, if you threw a brick at Adam's ass you'd hit Rolling Stone in the face.
I have to say, I fully understand the press's fascination with Adam as the gayest and outest contestant ever, wearing makeup and weird clothes. But I don't understand why his album is always called "the most anticipated idol album ever," and he's called "one of the big guns" releasing a CD this fall. Who said so? Did the guy ever give any indication on Idol that he would put out a good album? Nobody could even figure out what kind of album he would put out.
The press wants to ignore that Kris won Idol. But he has a lot of fans, and they haven't forgotten. If Kris got the press buildup he'd have gotten if Adam Lambert never existed, I think his numbers would probably be higher. I mean, considering he's all but ignored, his numbers are good.
Also, first week sales are one thing, but don't always tell the whole story. They're big for people who are big. Kris is not big, especially considering his nonexistent or even negative press (negative toward him as an artist). I think he's not going to disappear. He's going to gain in popularity. When people come to know him as an artist who's reliably good, his reputation will grow. He has to put in the work, and he will. The album will sell respectably, and he's going to be a respected performer. I also have to wonder if he doesn't have another hit single or two that will help sell that album.
