Well, I watch CI and really have liked it just as much if not more than AI. So I'm thinking I could save $143.55 million and hire Zach. But, for the US, I think Simon is the show to a certain extent. There is the mindset that without him the show wouldn't work which was perpetuated because Paula came off as such a space cadet the past few years, and Randy with all the Dawgs, and babies. If Paula and Randy had been a little more clear in their critiques they could pay Simon so much less, lol.

No I hadn't heard that about Kara either, I know that Adam mentioned working with her, but Kris is so quiet about who he's working with and I'm thinking that Adam just talks way more. When Adam met Madonna it was big news in the media and came across as her wanting to work with him - but then from another interview he gave after he said that Madonna had no idea who he was since she didn't watch the show. (no offence to Adam cause they would be great together) so I think Kris is just way quiet about what's happening behind the scenes which isn't necessarily a bad thing actually.

Can you see an AI panel with Jake, Zack, Simon, and, hm, let's say, Kara? (Actually Simon and Zack were co-judges on World Idol. And got into a dispute over Kelly Clarkson, when Zack criticized her.)

What I mean is, Simon would seem so much less significant on that panel. And I think Jake and Zack wouldn't hesitate to let him know when he's being a tool.

I forgot to mention the Newsweek interview. I loved it. I hope we see more of this kind of thing from him.

Too tired to write more right now...yawn.

Jake, Zach, Simon and Kara.. oo that would be interesting wouldn't it? It might be too much critical thinking for a tv show though. I don't know.. Sometimes you need Paula's -- "Well don't you look great tonight" critiques. She does serve a purpose I guess, It's to soften the blow to the ego for the poor children getting beat up on stage and in the media. The four of them would be interesting to listen to though for sure.

Did you ever buy the itunes pass for Kris's cd? A video arrived today and kind of gave away one of Kris's songs for the tour. Bright Lights -- I think that will be a great song for Kris to sing. There was rehearsal of ANS too, it sounded a little different again. Really good though.. Kris looked exhausted. Poor guy.

I just watched it on YouTube. I didn't buy the pass, maybe I should. Not for stuff like that little teaser, but they're going to include tour performances, too, right?

Not to beat a dead horse, but...

I'm still really, really disappointed he's not doing Falling Slowly, seriously. I basically pictured him singing that from the first time I thought of going to the tour. I was even kind of wondering how I was going to be able to listen to him sing that song without bawling, and embarrassing myself. I mean, somehow, that song spells "Kris Allen's Idol journey," to me. Even those four words make me feel like tearing up a bit. Anyhow, talk about an incredible moment, possibly with the crowd singing along on the second chorus? Damn. I doubt any new song he performs could have the meaning of that one, or the impact, because that one's loaded with impressions and memories, somehow (like, it also reminds me of the Top 3 homecoming).

What makes it worse is he obviously really wanted to do it:

Kris

What do you think really happened, with that?

Do you like Bright Lights? Maybe that's the other song he said he wanted to do on AI?

Strangely just the other day, somebody on some blog was saying Kris could be another Rob Thomas, doing RT's type of music. Well, I don't know. That isn't how I see Kris at all. Because if you listen to Kris's album he's so much fresher and younger, musically. More indie, I guess I mean.

Good quote From Fame. Does it have a message, re Kris?

Hey, I'm back! You guys have been prolific, it took me forever to catch up! Thanks for the links and videos!

About Falling Slowly, I'm also disappointed/surprised that he won't (can't?) do it. I'm not sure about Bright Lights, I don't really know it actually. I'm not the biggest Rob Thomas fan, his stuff sounds really generic and boring to me. But, of course, I'm not getting my hopes up that Kris' record won't sound a little generic at least, because I know it will. This is the fate of an Idol CD (the first one at least).

I'm excited about ANS, Heartless and Hey Jude though!

Welcome back! We missed ya :)

I just watched it on YouTube. I didn't buy the pass, maybe I should. Not for stuff like that little teaser, but they're going to include tour performances, too, right?

The pass says one tour rehearsal and two backstage snippits and one tour performance and then the album, not a bad deal really.
(if you're obsessive like me) :)

I was upset about the lack of Falling Slowly too. It was such a stunning performance. I don't know whether or not it was his decision or the tour producer (director?) or a rights issue. Although when Lil Rounds was asked about songs she said that you can sing what you want so maybe it's down to the fact that the other two songs were songs that Kris wanted to sing more? I don't know. Or the fact that he needed a song that would be something different from the show and he already had ANS, and Heartless and No Boundaries in the set. It might be something that will have to wait until he tours his new album (if then) I can see Kris being the type of Artist that would like to change things up on the setlist though so I can definitely see him singing it again.

Bright Lights is a song I can totally see Kris singing. But then I like Rob Thomas :) It's a song that he could play on piano (although who knows how he'll play it), and it has a story - I'd love to hear the way Kris sings it. I think it would be really good.

Good quote From Fame. Does it have a message, re Kris?

Just in general. Since he was saying he was tired I always think of that line whenever I think about the aftermath of Idol. It's always way more work than you'd think to get your music out there. for example - Jacob and Hedley were able to translate their exposure to success due to a hell of a lot of hard work.

I'm not getting my hopes up that Kris' record won't sound a little generic at least, because I know it will. This is the fate of an Idol CD (the first one at least).

I know, right? Ugh it's the thing that frustrates me to no end. You have all this talent and then you drown it in other people's opinions. Stepping stones though - stepping stones. And it is a good thing to meet all the various people and create networks and such.

The veriaty show dissappeared a long time ago because TV execs felt the people didn't want it.
With the popularity of American Idol proves the TV execs were wrong

I know what you mean, I've thought of that sometimes. AI is like the old variety shows in a lot of ways. I also sometimes wonder why the execs still don't get it. Like, some of the performers on Idol are great on TV, so why couldn't one of them have a TV show? A music show, I mean. It doesn't necessarily have to be cheesy.

By the way, earlier in the year MTV tried a sort of variety show hosted by Pete Wentz, and there were big acts on the show. I watched it one night and saw Snoop Dogg jamming with Panic At The Disco, which was awesome.

I was upset about the lack of Falling Slowly too. It was such a stunning performance. I don't know whether or not it was his decision or the tour producer (director?) or a rights issue.

SleepinIn, if you take a look at the first part of his interview that I linked to (with Lindsay Parker) he says he wanted to do it. "I wish. I wanted to, so bad, but they...sorry." Sounded like he wasn't allowed to do it. Apparently not his decision. But who's decision, or why? I don't know.

I hope you guys had a good Canada Day. :canada:

(At last, a good reason to break out the Canadian flag-waving smilie. I've been trying to work that thing into a post for months. lol)

missaddicted, welcome back! Missed you. Hope you had better weather wherever you were than we've had here. It's rained for days. And is supposed to rain on the 4th of July. And beyond. Have you done any catching up on mj's blog? This is probably the best Kradam interview yet:

TV Guide Kris & Adam

I'm not sure about Bright Lights, I don't really know it actually.

Bright Lights

I'm not crazy about it, but then I haven't heard what Kris is going to do with it, yet.

I'm not the biggest Rob Thomas fan, his stuff sounds really generic and boring to me. But, of course, I'm not getting my hopes up that Kris' record won't sound a little generic at least, because I know it will. This is the fate of an Idol CD (the first one at least).

Well, I guess I shouldn't jump to comclusions. Kris doesn't have to be making a CD that sounds like Rob Thomas just because he's doing one of his songs on tour. But it probably will have some generic aspects, I don't know. These days Matt Nathanson's Come On Get Higher is #1 on Top 40 Boston radio, so if that sound is popular I'd rather Kris's CD sounded like that, than like Matchbox 20.

Yes, I did catch up on MJ's blog yesterday. The TV Guide interview is hilarious!

Maybe I shouldn't judge Rob Thomas too fast, I probably haven't listened to enough of his songs to judge. But, Bright Lights only sounds OK to me, it doesn't really make me want to check out his other songs. We'll see if Kris' version makes me change my mind (if he does indeed sings that song on tour that is).

These days Matt Nathanson's Come On Get Higher is #1 on Top 40 Boston radio, so if that sound is popular I'd rather Kris's CD sounded like that, than like Matchbox 20.

Cool about Matt Nathanson! I love him! I would definitely prefer Kris' CD to sound like Matt's music than like Matchbox 20's. Matt seems pretty brilliant live. He seems like a really engaging performer. I guess his CD sounds a bit generic/polished too, but I really really like it. And it's even better live from the videos I've seen and his live CD "At The Point".

Btw, Matt Nathanson is from a town right near here, though I think he lives in San Francisco now.

Yes, you're right Matt's Cd stuff does sound sorta generic, even muzak-y, if you listen to the background music closely enough (almost like an AI iTunes arrangement). But I like that his voice is heard "pure," just recorded without any distortion. Someone pointed out to me on another forum how Jacob's voice is always recorded that way, also. And Jacob is not the most gorgeous-voiced vocalist of all time. So that's really what I'm hoping for with Kris, that I hear his voice "as is." It's the kind of voice where hearing all the small nuances and inflections really adds to the enjoyment of it, I think. It's such a compelling voice. Speaking or singing, both, actually.

As for Bright Lights, I'm hoping it's not in his set, unless he does it differently than the arrangement Rob Thomas does. I don't seem to love the song itself at this point, either. Besides, it's somehow a little too similar to Ain't No Sunshine.

One song I would like to hear Kris do, I think, is The Postal Service's Such Great Heights. As covered by Mitch MacDonald.

Mitch

I also wouldn't mind Drops Of Jupiter, though everyone covers that. Any thoughts on what you guys would like to hear him do?

And finally, this is hilarious..."I MET KRIS ALLEN JUST AN HOUR AGO!!!" (Please verify that you're over 14, and then enjoy.)

And so...the tour is beginning...

Matt Nathanson was on CHUM FM early June (June 9th) and I kind of fell for his personality aside from his voice but he did sing a tiny, little bit of accoustic 'Don't Stop Believing' with the DJ's. It was pretty funny. Then he did an accoustic version of his current hit.

CHUM FM On-Demand

(there's also an interview with Allison on there from May 22/09) She's so cute. It only took a month and a half to get her addicted to Twitter. lol

I couldn't read the LJ account (although do I want to? -- I'm afraid) since I'm not a member of LJ.

Oh, and I'm a total fan of the variety show format.

Thanks fot the Matt interview and song. I've heard he's a comedian, now I know why. (Matt, write with Kris.)

I actually joined LJ just now because I couldn't bring up that link anymore, either. Then after I joined I was blocked from seeing that entry, anyhow! So, I give up.

This is what it was (but it won't be funny when I tell it). Two teen girls (probably about 15) apparently were in the hotel in Portland where Kris was staying. They saw him as he was checking in. They went over and talked to him, and he was slightly befuddled and said he didn't know his way around Portland, pulled out a map, studied it, and somehow ended up tripping over an ottoman. He told them he was trying to go to American Apparel and I think they gave him directions, then he walked there and they followed him the whole way. They also posted a picture of themselves with Kris at the hotel.

Of course there was a lot of "OMG!!!" and "he's sooooo cute," etc.

Thanks, SleepinIn! That was good. "Humble!" Ha. And he didn't even watch the show more than once last season, so I guess people just see him that way. Cool.

I think I've also heard that station plays Kris/Heartless. Hey, let me know, if you find out their playlist. I have yet to hear Kris on the radio. Someone on mj's blog also mentioned they played him on another Boston station but I forget which one.

Have you heard the Fray's version? I don't believe Kris covered their version. He even said he got the idea listening to Kanye's version, and the tempo is all Kanye's. The Fray's is dirge-like! I actually hate it. More or less. But let them think he covered it if it makes them happy.

I'm glad Kris is songwriting with Joe King, though, I think the Fray write strong songs, good melodies. Otherwise I'm not that that crazy about their sound. It's good but I think Kris is better! Anyhow, they're popular. Thanks again for the interview!

I actually had the Fray's version pre-Idol - I think they played it on a radio station somewhere and I have a fondness for covers - I liked it a lot and still do, but you're right they aren't the same. I mean the idea of an accoustic version is the same but the phrasing is different, and Kris has a lot more vocal variations (?? I don't know if that's the right way to say that). Anyway I agree they're all different. :)

Hope you're having a great 4th of July!!

I just got your reference to tripping over the Fray's interview! lol I'm slow, I guess. :-?

I also love covers. Guess that explains my Idol obsession, huh? I even wish some idols would keep on doing covers, post-Idol. I'd rather hear a new version of a great song than a new song that's less than great.

My 4th is pretty good, so far, but, man, I just lost my whole post! So, putting back the pieces...

There are local fireworks going off right now, over the lake, about a mile away. I just came from there. It was actually the first warm, sunny day in about a month. There was a parade, but I didn't stay for the fireworks. Now I'm watching the Boston Pops on TV, the guest is Neil Diamond. He just sang Forever In Blue Jeans, reminding me of this. (I never noticed before that Sass says, "He's hot," when she's laughing. Ha. Jacob nearly didn't get to Toronto.)

I hung out today at the parade with a friend who's the only person I actually know who knows who Jacob is. He's from here, but went to the U of Toronto, graduated last year. Way younger than me, but we have some mutual interests. Anyhow, a couple of years ago, some girls took him to Much On Demand for his birthday, and Hedley was there. Today he was saying how he misses all the clubs in Toronto, all the live music. He said it's great.

Speaking of live music, I wish you guys were going to the Idols tour. Starts tomorrow.

SleepinIn, you think maybe mj would want to post a link to that Fray interview?

Ha. I'm not that funny. I just meant I didn't expect to come across the interview, so I had to actually fall over it to find it. :)

I loved that audition of Jacob's it was so good. You can tell he didn't really expect to make it -- but his personality just stood out from the beginning, didn't it? He is better off being in a band.. but what they don't sing in bands Jake? I think casting Jacob on the show changed the whole course of CI.. not too monumental right? lol

I'm not registered at MJ's - but yeah post it for sure. I'll post it over on TWOP too.

OH! and I'm glad you had some good weather for the 4th. We had sunshine too. It feels like it's been ages!!!

I never knew what Jake meant, re Jacob being a singer. Was he saying, "He's this good, why isn't he already a singer?" Or did he mean, "If he wanted to be a singer, he'd be a singer," as in a solo singer, not a member of a band?

And then Jake said, "He'll never be in the Top 3."

I meant, about the Fray interview, you can notify mj by email of stuff you find like this. And you do find a lot of good stuff! On her blog, on the left hand side, under "Stuff," it says "contact me." You can email her there. Maybe I'll send her the link.
