I enjoyed those clips! But I made a stupid mistake. They were also up on mj's blog, and I looked at the comments there, and there were some serious buzz-killer posters on there. Just button-pushing jerks but they ended up bugging me. The comments on YouTube are mostly hilarious, though.
You know, there's something about Adam that's naive, or vulnerable. It comes through in those clips (to me, anyway). Sometimes it's there, then it's gone. I can't explain what I mean. I think he may wear his heart on his sleeve a bit. I think he's insecure, also.
Kris is probably the stronger one. You know what I thought was funny? In the last interview (Lindsay Parker), Kris said he cried when the writers of Falling Slowly gave him all that stuff. Plus, he supposedly cried in Thailand when he gave his guitar away. Yet he claims he never cries, he's not a crier.
I think it's influential. I mean, it has to be. I imagine "fairness" is not the only reason AI doesn't allow MySpaces to stay up. It also means they can manipulate the vote more. We only have access to what they give us.
Of course, YouTube changed that. Look at Adam. He had so much stuff on YouTube. People were commenting on it on the forums from the beginning. I think some people even liked his YouTube stuff more than what he was doing on the show. He wasn't as popular then as he became later, and I wouldn't be surprised if his YouTube stuff filled in some of the gaps. The small-club ballad performances, religious music, and Brigadoon/Wicked songs showed he had amazing versatility and also a "softer" side, and a prettier-music side. I think this helped him appeal to a wider range of people.
I can't vote on CI, but if I could have, Sebastian's and Earl's pre-Idol music (on their MySpaces, which CI allows to stay up during the competition) would have influenced me a lot to give them votes.
So I think the pre-Idol music is very much in the mix.

Lukas was all about the drama on the show, Maybe not to the vocal extent that Adam had but he went all spotlight stage director too. He was my favourite on Season 2. But it was his early songs that really got me. Which brings up an interesting point - the influence of pre-Idol material that leaks during the show - how much of a factor is it?
