Ah, I hate Twitter. I prefer reading Brian Mansfield's live blog on Idol Chatter (USA Today). The show seems to be going well...

I've been listening to the show with the link mj provided. There's supposed to be video, but there isn't. The audio is bad, too! Sounds like they're underwater. You have to sign up to a thing called blog.tv., to watch/listen So naturally I did. Someone is supposed to be streaming it from her phone, or whatever. Not doing a great job...

So instead of seeing the concert, you see rickey, of rickey.com, looking at his computer screen and bopping along to the tunes. Wonder what he sees on that screen? I think he's reading the live chat that's also in the page with the "stream."

I heard some of Lil's stuff, then all of Matt's set, then the group number. Well, part of it. I actually had to take off the headphones I was listening on, at that point. The sound is that poor. Gave me a headache. It's currently intermission.

I just responded to a post over on mj's. The post was something like: "I hope Adam, out of his love and respect for his friend Kris, doesn't tone down his set in order not to overshadow Kris. I hope he gives it his all."

Allison is on now. (Rickey is wearing a pink wig for Allison.) She's singing "So What." Okay, I can hear a girl going "wooo!" a lot. The person recording it, I guess. Now she's singing "Crybaby." Cripes, this sound. Literally gives me a headache, I have to stop. I'll come back and update in a few minutes...

Okay, back. Ha.

Danny is singing PYT. He's supposed to be doing some serious dancing in this number. Like, good dancing. Worked with the tour choreographer. Rickey is bopping again. The audience is singing along. He sounds good.

I mean to say this all the time, but I wanted Kris's set to be more fun. I'm kind of disappointed. Like, She Works Hard For The Money would probably be a crowd-pleaser. He doesn't seem to do any upbeat (in the sense of light, fun) songs in his whole set. I don't want him to be too artistic/intense, in this concert. Don't you think Heartless, Ain't No Sunshine, and Bright Lights, in a row, is a bit...dark? Not dark, maybe, but not a lot of laughs, either.

Danny is getting huge cheers, I don't know what for. Now he's talking about losing his wife. "Don't be defined by tragedy," he's saying. Oh, Danny, give it a rest, Danny. He's giving an inspirational speech.

Okay, Adam is on. Toning it down,he's definitely not. Ha!

Whole Lotta Love. Crowd reaction is big. Adam is very loud. The person recording this is obviously an Adam fan. Because she's screaming a lot.

What's Adam's second song? I plead ignorance. Now he's doing Mad World (3rd song). Singing it more like he did it on Top 2 night, rather than the first time. More glory notes, i.e. He's introducing Allison now, this is gonna rock.

Never mind, I can't hear it well at all. Only one more song, then...him. o.m.g.

...sheez, this person must have lousy seats. Sounds like she's way up in the balcony.

You're courageous ross to be listening to the cell cast! The David Cook concerts are also cellcasted (?) almost every night and I've never listened either, the sound is always atrocious. I'll wait for the videos to show up.

I get what you're saying about Kris' set not being too much on the fun side. We'll see I guess...

I think Adam's second song is Starlight by Muse... pretty much the only song I like from that band. Not a big fan of the singer's voice. I'll have to check out Adam's version.

Apparently, Adam is getting the biggest response from the crowd. Not that I'm surprised, but I'm curious as to how the transition between Adam and Kris is going to be. Not that I'm doubting Kris, but I can't help but wonder...

The sound is getting worse, unfortunately. Just as Kris is coming on.

Adam is in the middle of the Bowie medley. He is really, really going up and down the scream scales. I know maybe it's me more than you, so bear with me, but I just don't get why that's enjoyable. I never did. I "appreciate" it as a talent, but don't enjoy it.

A guy I know who's a sort of casual AI watcher made the observation that to me that Adam doesn't draw you in.

MAD cheering, now. What is it? OMG, it's Kris. Heartless!

No Boundaries. Ain't No Sunshine.

Wow, his voice is amazing. Bright Lights. This is amazing.

missaddicted, at least in Portland, Kris seems to be getting a huge crowd response, just like Adam. If not even more.

I'm sure the Adam fans will spin it otherwise! be forewarned.

Hey Jude. The sound is so bad again I can't tell it's Kris. His whole set is more electric/rock than I thought it would be.

Don't stop believing.

Yay for your report about the crowd's response to Kris. I don't know if the USA Today guy was more of an Adam fan than a Kris fan but he almost made it sound like Kris' set was a let down compared to Adam's set.

I'm going to bed. I guess I'll be able to watch the videos tomorrow night.

I don't know about the USA Today guy. Someone on mj's blog said something like: the press people had certain opinions during the season, and they still have them. Which I took to mean, the USA Today guy is an Adam fan. They cheered a lot during Adam's songs, probably because of his notes, and his moves. It was more like a rock concert. For Kris, they also cheered a lot of his big notes, but it was more like they cheered at the right times, and then listened at the right times. Anyway, I thought the audience response sounded like big l-o-v-e for Kris.

LA Times Richard Rushfield tweeted:

"Heartless holds up. Beautiful opening for kris. Transforms the arena to a little club"

"Kris Allen delivers. America is no idiot."

Watching tour videos right now...

Maybe you've already seen them, but I figured it wouldn't really be a waste to post them again!

Heartless with amazing audio (for an amazing singer):

YouTube - Kris Allen - Heartless - 7-5-09 Portland, OR

Adam doing Starlight by Muse (I love his voice on the song, but I could really do without the hand movements, distracting):

YouTube - Adam Lambert Opening night of American Idols Live tour

No Boundaries (well, it is what it is!):

YouTube - Kris Allen sings No Boundaries at American Idols Live

Hee! I listened to it too. And actually for a cellert it wasn't bad at all. I once listened to one that was practically unintelligible so to actually hear what they were saying and make out what they were singing it was good and so fun.

Allison really impressed me, she sounded like a rock star.

Danny and I live on two separate musical plains - He's got a great voice and he seems like a nice guy, but much like the Renegade duet we don't mesh well. His set seemed so long to me.. lol. Ah, well. I did like his Maria, Maria.

Adam.. I loved Starlight - I really like Muse though the Bowie medley came through as really garbled on my end so I don't really know how that went without youtubing it - Adam got crazy applause and cheering, and he sounded amazing.. and this is where I got worried. OMG, how is Kris going to follow this???

Well, holy crap he did. And more.

Heartless sounded so good. The crowd went bananas. Kris just has great timing on stage.

NB - sounded almost good?

Bright Lights - squee. I need to see this on youtube.

Hey Jude - Loved. You could tell he's having a ball, I watched some youtube videos of this one and it's so good.

Only complaint is that it seemed to be over so fast. They were really moving those numbers along (which I guess they have to do or they would be there all night)

You guys.

Thanks so much for the videos. I was at work this morning and saw that mj had posted some, but I couldn't watch them. So, I just got home, and watched them here! Yayyy! Heartless first. I don't even have the words. Just: sooo good. (And I love it that Kris has "homies." HA.) The crowd cheering for him so long at the beginning made me a little emotional. I'm not gonna lie. Heh.

Oh hey, I almost forgot! I heard Kris on the radio today!! Heartless!!! On Mix98.5
(thanks to you, SleepinIn). I was in the car, I let out a yell, had this stupid huge smile on my face through the whole song. He sounded good! Not like I never heard it before, but it just sounded so much like it belonged on the radio, I guess, that I was really impressed.

By the way, Rickey is supposedly going to stream all fifty concerts. Or whatever you call it. "Cellerts?" Okay, sounds good. So, tonight, if you're interested, it's Tacoma, I think. (Did you sign up for blog.tv, SleepinIn? Or whatever it is?) missaddicted, it was worth hearing once. To get a feel for the experience.
You're right, though, SleepinIn, they really sped through it. Not that that's a bad thing. It still lasted three hours, I think.

I know what you guys mean about Adam. I noticed the stuff you said, when I listened last night. It was a little mechanical, or something. You have to wonder. This is the first time we've heard them sing more than 90 seconds at a time. Maybe Kris is actually better at sustaining the mood, or the emotion, over a period of time.

It's interesting you talked about Kris's timing. I think this relates to his intelligence, abilty to "read" things around him.

The audience was very into Adam, anyhow, he got huge applause, and I was glad. Kris did, too, but as for who got more, I don't know. The thing is, they can only cheer so much. Then it gets exhausting. I would say they cheered themselves out for Adam, and then Kris, then they wanted to sit back and hear Kris's set. (Which seems as if it was awesome.) And: doesn't the group come on and finish Hey, Jude, with him, then go into Don't Stop Believing? Does he even get applause at the end of his set?

Just saw that you posted Bright Lights. Going to watch now.

That's so AWESOME! (OMG!! I've turned into a lunatic - lol) But it totally is awesome. I read somewhere that they're playing it in Hawaii too. Maybe we can get it onto the radio and ditch NB. I haven't heard anything of Kris's on the radio yet, although they did advertise buying a ring tone for him on Much Music which I found almost as good. Right there with the Boom Boom Pow. Okay I'd rather have the radio, but I want the radio for a good song.

By the way, Rickey is supposedly going to stream all fifty concerts. Or whatever you call it. "Cellerts?" Okay, sounds good. So, tonight, if you're interested, it's Tacoma, I think. I think the sound will really depend on who's doing the cellert. But no I didn't log into anywhere. I just went to Ricky's blog and clicked the listen here button. And there I was - listening. It was nice to watch and listen to the first concert. Everyone was so excited.

You're right, though, SleepinIn, they really sped through it. Not that that's a bad thing

Yeah that first half.. whoosh. I really didn't mind them at all but there was nothing that really excited me either although it might have been different at the show with better sound.

OMG!!! Wow. (<--my reaction to Bright Lights.) He's so much better than I thought. And I already thought he was great.

This was one of the songs he couldn't do on the show, or didn't get to do. Wonder when he wanted to do it?

SleepinIn, I'm curious. Could you see the concert, also? All I could see was Ricky. Anyhow, when I clicked on that button, it said I had to sign on to this particular website to watch live stuff. I wonder why? But I noticed later in the chat next to the picture, that people were saying, "Don't click on the button." Anyhow, the sound was very bubbly, like, people talking underwater. Did you have better sound than that?

Bright Lights was amazing wasn't it? So good. And it's Day 1.

No I didn't see the concert just Rickey, and I didn't click the watch button, I clicked the listen here link. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. The sound wasn't great, but when Ricky was talking it was pretty clear. So I'm thinking that's the best it's going to get. It was great to listen to, garbled sound or not. lol. I don't think I could do it 50 times but it was fun last night.

Yes, OMG to Bright Lights. I still don't care for the song itself, but I loved Kris' performance of it, LOVED! I especially loved his jump from the piano and his jam with the guitar player.

I can't wait until there's a video with better audio from that performance (from another show I guess). I don't think there's a show tonight though, MJ didn't start a thread for a concert on her blog.

I don't think I'll ever listen to the cellerts or whatever they're called. I hate bad audio, even if it's only slightly bad. Especially if I can't see anything. I even prefer youtube videos where you have better audio compared to better visuals.

Anyway, from the videos I've seen I really really like Kris' set. He's having a blast and I'm having a blast watching him.

I didn't really watch videos from the other performers (except the two Adam videos I posted here and the final group number of Don't Stop Believing). Did you guys watch something else that was interesting? Some of Allison's songs might be worth a look. Some of Matt too maybe. Or Danny? Just kidding.
