I just went over ther (to Rickey.org) and you can re-listen to last night's stuff. Nothing for tonight that I noticed. There are videos of the idols at the fences/buses, signing autographs if you want to see them up close. "Kris, anyone ever tell you you look like Nick Lachey?"

I like Bright Lights a lot. The song. also. It grew on me fast (!) I'm amazed at that shot where Kris is at the piano and you see the huge audience in front of him, and he seems like a star. And the way he takes the stage and works the crowd during Hey Jude.

Matt & Kris

More Matt & Kris

Anoop & Allison

Group

Group

Adam

These videos remind me. Is always seems like when you look at the comments under any article or blog about AI, Adam has, like, a million fans, even if half of them seem crazy as loons. And here, he gets the most screams. So does he have more fans, or just louder, more obsessive fans?

...Videos of other Idols, missaddicted? Well, I've been really Kris-centric, especially today, but I hear Anoop's set was really good, and that he's really relaxed and better than on the show. Supposedly Matt and Lil were better, too. The first group number is supposed to be good. I haven't seen any of this. Allsion doing Pink sounded great, last night, had great audience reaction. Matt seemed to get a lot of laughs when he spoke.

How was your vacation?

This was in response to the usual few posters on another blog who say things like "Kris has no stage presence" and "his Brights Lights performance did nothing for me." And who compared how the audience stood and cheered through Adam's set, vs. Kris's set (where I guess they didn't, always. Rather glad of that! They actually watched and listened to him, I guess).

From a person who was in the audience, in Portland:

The crowd stood through all of Bright Lights (at least where I was, at the very back of the Floor, and certainly the whole audience was massively excited). The piano at the beginning was stunningly beautiful — it made me gasp, and his vocal was gorgeous. Kris had the audience captivated with Bright Lights, and then when it segued into rock, everyone was rocking out. He was so obviously having a blast, and the audience loved it!
People also stood, rapt, through all of Heartless, and even if they sat down during the middle part of his set, were *totally* into it, cheering and clapping. Hey Jude was a big crowd pleaser, and for it being Kris’s first time, he engaged the audience realy well for this part — and I’m sure will get even better at this.
Again, Kris’s reception was huge, massively positive. Only Adam had a bigger response, but that I think is just going to be a given in most locations. Kris I’m sure is completely used to that and understands it himself ( :) ), and is just doing what he’s always done — given a great performance and bringing the audience along with him.:)
If I remember correctly, they absolutely were showing Kris’s face, and his piano playing, during the beginning of Bright Lights, on the screens. He was totally into it, putting everything into it, and it was stunning! The audience was all on its feet where I was, rapt.

Peopls said Adam got screams just when his face was shown on the monitors at various times in the concert (when he wasn't onstage).

I'm still of the opinion Adam has more vociferous fans, and that, pretty much naturally, he would. It goes with his style. If I saw Kris's face on a monitor, I wouldn't start screaming. I wouldn't scream through his set. It doesn't mean I don't think he's totally awesome.

I'm pretty much thrilled with what I've seen of Kris's set and how he came across onstage. He killed. Doesn't matter what happens, he always seems to exceed expectations. In itself, I find that amazing.

Aw. I like that I really do.

There's a really interesting discussion going on over in Kris's thread on TWOP - about music.. Heartless or ANS.. which is the defining moment (or other suggestions)?

I think Kris and Adam are just really different, and their fans are different although they do seem to have a lot of crossover fans. Adam I think is always going to get the more excitable response purely based on his personality, and style of music. I'm okay with that. I just want the music they create - I can't worry about who screams the loudest. :)

I'm foolishly trying to listen to the cell phone version of the concert from Tacoma.
The sound is horrendous this time. Kris is currently singing Bright Lights. It seems that this time around, the audience is really screaming for him. I kind of preferred it when they just listened quietly, in Portland.

BTW, I have to say, once and for all, Kris is not "mellow," or "low key." I still read those things about him all the time. It's not like they're insults, but they don't really describe him. They describe Jason Castro. I would say that Kris is, more often than not, very intense, and a very strong singer.

(I don't ever get the comparisons to James Taylor, either. The day James Taylor can sing with a rock band while playing electric guitar, then Kris will remind me of him, I guess.)

I enjoyed that Kris thread tonight. Thanks, SleepinIn. It was interesting. I'm not used to reading a Kris thread. It was like taking a vacation! Relaxing. No fan warring. No gushing for Adam.

I felt bad for the person who wanted to know if other "die-hard" Kris fans existed, for her own sanity. I wanted to post, but since I got banned I always avoid the AI threads over there. Here is actual footage of that.

I managed to get unbanned, of course, but I usually just stick to the CI thread, now. Still, I feel bad that that person doesn't know us three intrepid fans exist. Any ideas?

I can see it. Or did you have a second video in your post? And I understand your pain. I was banned last year in the David Cook thread. Pretty much all the posters were banned at one time or another and the reasons why they were banned are really funny/ridiculous. Anyway, I still came back, I couldn't stay away from the CI forum last summer!

You never read Kris' thread on TWOP, ross? I prefer reading that than the stupidities that are posted in the comments at MJ's.

And my vacation was great, thanks for asking!

I gave up, you couldn't hear a single thing. Lol - I think the first one was a fluke. Every other cellert I've tried to listen to sounded exactly like that one.

I like a mix. Scream at the right part - constant screams make me think the Jonas brothers are going to pop out of the stage or something.

I would say that Kris is, more often than not, very intense, and a very strong singer.
I agree with this too. I often notice that when he stops singing its like he has to remember where he is. He puts a lot of himself into the music.

I forgot you were banned over there. Didn't know there was actual newsreel footage of the act.

Now I feel bad that I was never banned, although when I watched Rockstar I think like the whole thread was banned - but I was just reading then. lol I just find the crazy fan warring ridiculous. I mean if the contestants like each other then why would I post mean things about a friend of theirs. It really doesn't make any sense.

I managed to get unbanned, of course, but I usually just stick to the CI thread, now. Still, I feel bad that that person doesn't know us three intrepid fans exist. Any ideas?
CI is all love isn't it? Respectful snarkiness. LOL It's also in the suburbs of the threads if it got the traffic it would be different I think. But you should stop by Ross. Post something totally on-topic (ie: Kris and his music) Don't worry about the haters, Kris is gonna be okay. He did win after all - we weren't the only 3 voting.. in fact.. um, two of us didn't vote at all. :)

OH! I almost forgot why I came !! Haters to the left and Watch Hey Jude...

missaddicted, I did have a second video, it was Heartless, from Tacoma. MJ has since put up a better one. Oh, and I heard Heartless on the radio again, today. Same station. I'm glad it's getting so much airplay!

Another Kris "sighting" (kind of funny). I was looking at magazines in a drugstore. I saw Kris staring back at me from the cover of one of those tween magazines. It was called "Quizfest." Inside there was a quiz: "Which song best represents you?" And they gave you three choices, and one was No Boudaries by Kris Allen. ("If you chose this, you're a hard working chica with your eyes on the prize...") Included in this "Hot Guy Poster Issue!!!" were posters of Zac Efron, Rob Pattinson, Nick Jonas, and Kris. He has now joined the pantheon of immortals, I guess. This was the picture they used for the poster:

You never read Kris' thread on TWOP, ross? I prefer reading that than the stupidities that are posted in the comments at MJ's.

Yeah, the stupidities have totally worn me down over there. So have her weird rules. "Don't question the motives of your fellow posters". Well, the motives of a lot of posters over there are very questionable!

Anyhow, I've read the Kris thread on TWoP a time or two. Basically I haven't done it more because I don't look at the AI threads on TWoP much. I'll have to pay more attention, maybe post. I think SleepinIn said it best, the CI thread is a quiet suburb and (to me) the AI threads are heavily patrolled. I'm always unable to stick to the rules, so I don't want to get banned again. I don't want to have to think up a different username! I like "ross"! Well, we'll see.

Here's a random pic, just for no reason. I found it today.

If somebody told me Katy was Kris's sister, I'd believe it. They really sort of resemble each other.

SleepinIn, two things I LOL'd at in your post:
1. Constant screams make me think the Jonas brothers are going to pop out of the stage or something.
2.Now I feel bad that I was never banned.

Don't worry about the haters, Kris is gonna be okay. He did win after all - we weren't the only 3 voting.. in fact.. um, two of us didn't vote at all.

But don't you know he needs help? Poor Kris. He looks like a lost lamb on that big old stage. He is really like a human sleeping pill after the mesmerizing blast of hot throbbing sex and operatic vocalizing that is Adam the rock god. (I'm almost literally quoting people.)

You're right. Kris will be fine, more than fine. It's me I'm worried about.

I think Kris and Adam are just really different, and their fans are different although they do seem to have a lot of crossover fans. Adam I think is always going to get the more excitable response purely based on his personality, and style of music.

Adam's fans: I guess they heavily identify with him, but what is it about him that they identify with? Especially middle-aged women? They sure find him sexy. Do you guys? Myself, I think performers who act deliberately sexy, aren't. Just my (as always) humble opinion.

PS: Did you guys see that "Arkansan" magazine article? I don't know if I can find it, now. Kris (as a boy) wearing a crown, he was some kind of beauty contest winner?
He'll never live that down if Anoop and Matt see it.

Well, I don't want you to get banned. lol. Just deep breathing... serenity now, serenity now.

It's me I'm worried about.
Someone on TWOP mentioned the demographic of Kris's fans and said that they weren't old or young - they were worriers. It kind of made me laugh because it was so true. lol

I think Adam is a good looking guy, and I can see why people are attracted to him - he does have that spark or that special "it" that makes performers stand out on stage. Plus he's a sweet guy with a sense of humour - what's not to like? I can see the attraction. That being said there are no posters of Adam on my desktop. :)

(there aren't posters of Kris on my desktop either... I do however have a itunes pass picture that I don't know what to do with).

Overt sexuality on stage.. not opposed to it. :) But it does as always depend on the performer and the performance. I also think it's really funny to be talking overt sexuality and American Idol tour in the same breath. LMAO. Oh the times they are a changing.

PS: Did you guys see that "Arkansan" magazine article?

I have and I wanted to comment on it here. I'm not through yet, but it's kind of creeping me out. The pictures are beautiful, the family is adorable, it's well written, but I still feel weird about it. Like they're too perfect to be true. Makes my pretty normal family seem totally out of the ordinary! I don't really know how to explain how I feel about it, but it's making me a bit uncomfortable.

I agree with you on that. And I don't really find him sexy either most of the time. He does have his "sexy" moments though. I thought "Ring of Fire" was sexy! But I don't really find Kris sexy either, he's a bit too "boy next door" for me. And several inches smaller than me!

Anyhow, I've read the Kris thread on TWoP a time or two. Basically I haven't done it more because I don't look at the AI threads on TWoP much. I'll have to pay more attention, maybe post. Yeah, I prefer "missaddicted" to my new username also, but what can you do! Now, I do mostly lurk in the AI forums, but I've posted a few times during the season.

I often notice that when he stops singing its like he has to remember where he is. He puts a lot of himself into the music.

And that is one of the things I prefer from Kris (the main thing being his incredible voice). It feels genuine and not superficial when he performs.

Thanks for the interview, SleepinIn. So funny. I love Kris and Allison together! Megan on Adam's salad eating habit is also really funny. And Anoop would take Simon as his roadie to clean after him. Go Anoop!

And it's true, the Idols are in Canada tonight! Their only date in Canada. Last year, the show was in Toronto.

That was hilarious! I thought it would get better, now that the show is over, but it only gets worse. And I used to think those days before the results shows were bad!
I think this (worrying) is something we have in common with Kalan Porter's fans, btw.

SleepinIn, that interview was great! I don't know why but I was surprised to hear Anoop curse. Used to the squeaky clean Idol-ness, I guess.

One thing I noticed: Kris drew me in, in his segments. Not just because he talks softly. He has this wierd thing that just draws you in.

I want to write more about this, and both your posts, but I'm falling asleep. So, more from me tomorrow.

missaddicted, I think there are two Canadian shows on the Top 10 tour, Vancouver, and Hamilton, Ontario. The Hamilton show is on August 14, I think.

You're right, I hadn't seen that! Hamilton, though? I guess they couldn't go to Toronto. Oh, well, I didn't expect them to come to Montreal. We have the big Star Académie shows this summer in Québec (also in arenas), but I couldn't be bothered to go. The contestants were pretty much all very boring, except maybe a couple of them (out of 14).

Question:
Was that Soan guy on Star Academie? Strange dude (not sure of the year).

The AI idols were in Toronto last year, this year Hamilton gets a turn, I guess? Montreal would be nice, for a change, and I'm sure they'd enjoy the city.

About to go to work, but I had to throw on this short vid of Mraz followed by the dynamic duo.

(The sound quality is great on these.)

(Is Kris's speaking voice really that deep?)

Bright Lights, Hey Jude

Heartless, No Boundaries

This is a lot like the radio version of Heartless, which is great, but I miss, slightly, his wicked intense acoustic (faster) version.

Whoa, I didn't like No Boundaries. It is a set killer, as has been said. Would so much rather hear him go into She Works Hard For the Money, after Heartless.

I notice Kris gets no set-end applause, with himself alone onstage. I think he should, really. I'd like to hear what kind of applause he gets.

Question:
Was that Soan guy on Star Academie? Strange dude (not sure of the year).

I had to google him. I think he just won this year's season of "Nouvelle Star" which is the French version of Idol.

Star Académie is a well made show, but I've rarely found a contestant that I really loved. Well, most of the ones who've "made it" don't make music that I would want to buy (very "adult comtempory" feel). It's weird, because the show has encouraged the musicians since the beginning in 2003 and they're even allowed to perform their own songs! Even then, most of them are really not ready for the "big leagues", like Kris, Adam, Cook or Theo for example.

Anyway, some videos maybe?

Here's Wilfred Le Bouthillier (he's actually from New Brunswick), the winner of the first edition in 2003. I still really enjoy his music, mostly in the folk/pop/rock/slightly country genre.

A performance from the show:

YouTube - Wilfred le Bouthiller

A song from his second CD, "Avec toi":

YouTube - Wilfred Lebouthillier - Avec toi

The runner-up, Marie-Élaine Thibert (she's still really popular as well) and him performed in a contest with other contestants from other "Star Academies" in other countries that year, the "World's Best". They finished second. Please fast-forward to the third minute of the video and ignore the cheesy dancing, which was definitely not their choice!

YouTube - Wilfred et Marie-Élaine au World_Best_1

There's also Marie-Mai that I enjoy (also from the first season). At least she makes "younger" sounding music and she's really succesful. She also won the Best Rock Album award last fall for her second CD at the equivalent of our Grammy or Juno awards.

Probably my favorite of her songs, "Mentir":

YouTube - MARIE-MAI - MENTIR (vidéoclip)

Her song "Emmène-Moi" done in a duet with this year's runner-up, Carolanne.

YouTube - Marie-Mai et Carolanne Emmene-Moi / Star Académie 2009 [HQ]

This year's winner, Maxime Landry. He's a good singer and my dad and I had pegged him to win right from the beginning, but I really don't see myself buying his music.

YouTube - Maxime Landry - L'envie

Probably my two favorites from the last season, William and Jean-Philippe:

YouTube - William Deslauriers et Jean-Philippe Audet - Moisi Moé'ssi

William (the one singing lead) could have some success. He's probably the one contestant over the four years who's been the most popular with the teenage girls (he's 18 or 19, I think)!
