David and the kids were REALLY great (I switched from Arcade Fire to watch them and they didn't disappoint!)

Yeah I think that's what I missed this year aside from Hayley...and moments of Casey.. this kind of creative energy!

Simon's underwear's too tight.. lol

That's a good point. I missed that, and something else. This season, a lot of them were out of their depth. Because, before you get creative, or impressive, or put layers on, I think you first have to learn the basics. How to sing, and move. How to think. When I look at the singers I like, they seem to understand what's at the bottom of what they're doing. There's a lot of thought behind it. It's the thought that counts. lol

I think this season proved (to me, anyway) that it takes a lot of thought and work to get it right. Idol Moments don't just happen. I think there's years of tedious effort and boring practice behind those little moments, that make them happen so perfectly. It's when it seems effortless, that you know there's been incredible amounts of work that got the person to that level of effortlessness.

He doesn’t feel the need to be the centre of attention, but somehow is. He’s likeable, articulate, funny, has a great down-to-earth attitude about it all and is able to laugh along with those who are critical of him. IMO, he’s the male package Idol has been hoping for since Carrie’s success.

(A post from another board.) I've been reading a lot of similar stuff. Most of them begin with the words, "at last." As in, "At last, Idol has a male winner who's a good role model." "At last, Idol has a male winner who's humble and funny." You have to wonder if people are drunk-posting, or what.

The irony is that he doesn’t feel the need to impress everyone and fully realizes you can’t. And he’s okay with that. I’m sure if he met this person, he’d treat her with the same respect he has everyone else. That’s what makes it so hard to not like him.

Again - so original. Scotty is so unique in this regard.

From Jim:

David Cook Promises He's Not Pants-less In New Music Video - Music, Celebrity, Artist News | MTV

I haven't watched the interview yet, only read it, but there are some funny quotes!

"I'm proud of my butt, but I don't think I'm gonna be showing it in any music videos."

"Dick even used David's idea for an ending, where drummer Kyle Peek passes out upon seeing the presumed-dead rocker in the flesh. "I was proud of his passing-out ability," Cook declared. "If there's an Oscar for music videos, boom, nailed it.""

"It was a different story for bass player Monty Anderson. "I was like, 'Mont, you gotta sell it. You gotta pretend,' " Cook said before imitating Anderson's high-pitched Southern drawl, " 'Well, man, I can't pretend! You're right here!' He tried so hard, bless his heart. But there's a reason we didn't go to him for any firm reaction shots," Cook laughed."

So, ross, you asked me last week how I liked the voting on The Voice, well, I can now say that I like it very much. My two favorites were saved by the audience! I was kind of doubting it, since one of the girls is kind of odd looking (oh, and a lesbian, not that it matters to me, but it proves that "America" doesn't mind voting for gays) and the other is a shy little thing, but they were really the best two on their respective teams, so go America!

It won't matter in the end though, it's Javier Colon's to lose. That guy is so winning this show, it's written in the sky. And that's totally fine with me, the guy has a great great voice.

Yeah, America rocked The Voice vote (so far) and Javier wow, that guy is great those three are my faves, there are some on that show that don't sound all that good tho for a show about The Voice.

Have to watch David tommorrow, I got stuck on Kris's diva interview video, lol.

Jive will merge with Epic label and L.A.Reid will be the chairman. I wonder how this will affect Jordin, Kris and Crystal. L.A.Reid is the judge as well as the head of the label for the US X Factor. Will he invest in contestants from its rival American Idol?

I know right! I thought about this as well this week. Well, I can't even keep up with Twitter these days and I'm actually not sad to be spending less time online.

So, David's album is coming out next week. And I as wrote on Twitter (and also discussed a bit with SleepinIn), I'm not super excited about it (the album is streaming on AOL). I guess all the talk about diversity and varied instrumentation on the album elevated my expectations, so I guess I did not expect the album to be full on midtempo power-ballads with quiet verses and epic choruses, and that's what it is. I really love a couple of the songs, but I guess I expected David to be more original or something, and now I'm seeing that he might not be as much as I thought. The album is enjoyable to listen to, but the songs are very predictable and it makes the whole thing kind of boring. I could blame the label, but David himself says that the album really represents what he wanted to achieve and all that. So yeah, I'm kind of disappointed. Maybe some songs will grow on me, but so far, the only thing that comes to mind when I listen to the stream is generic, generic, generic. The vast majority of fans seem to love the album though, so I think it's just me. Several are praising the complexity of the album and I'm like "what complexity?". I may be a music snob, but David's new album definitely does not fall under my "complex music" definition.

Anyway, rant over. Maybe I'll wait until next week to listen to it again and give some songs the chance to grow on me.

I think idol season did us in, we overdosed, plus Kris has been really quiet while writing so no new shows or news for the first time in awhile.

I like a few songs on David's CD - one I like a lot, but overall it isn't a cd I'm going to reach for. Expectations get so high though so who knows how I'll feel if I hear the songs on the radio they may be "growers".

The new crop of season 10's I haven't been really following, I mean they haven't done too much, but what they've done I haven't kept up on aside from idoloonies. I want to see what kind of music Haley puts out.

I heard a new Brian Melo song on the radio the other day though :)

missadicted, that's really too bad about David's CD. If I could hear it I'd give an opinion, but I only heard the single, so far. The single did give me some of those feelings - i.e., "I thought this was supposed to sound pretty new and different." But it wasn't all that different. When you mentioned "generic" I guess I did not expect that from the CD, and I'm surprised. Anyhow, I'll have to give it a listen when I can get the actual CD. By the way, I'm curious, so if you don't mind answering - do you think you have also changed in your tastes, so that maybe you've grown "as an artist" (lol) even more, or maybe faster, than Cook? I know you love and listen to a lot of music and we all grow in various ways. So maybe what he thinks of as good, you now think of as generic. I don't know. Just throwing it out there. In other words by listening to and appreciating a lot of music, maybe you've become more musically sophisticated.

Good question about my musical tastes, ross. My musical tastes have evolved a lot in the last 2 or 3 years and they are still evolving. Even when DCTR came out, almost three years ago, I still thought it was generic. I guess I was just patient and I let it grow on me. And I ended up loving it, mainly because of David's voice. Today, I don't think I'll be as patient with TLM as I was with DCTR. I listened to it again today, and only the songs Circadian and Paper Heart are impressing me. And yes, I do like to believe that I've become more musically sophisticated. Some would even say snob. I've bought 19 albums so far this year. I think I consume more music than the the general public! And most, if not all, of those albums are not in the mainstream and the songs are not playing on the radio. Also, I love quirky stuff in music and non-traditional song structures, etc. So, if something sounds too much like some other music, I'm probably quicker to call it generic than most people.

Oliver's opening the Iifa Awards (I don't know why... lol) It's kind of a huge deal though, even more so than I thought. It's the Bollywood Oscar's. I've never seen crowds like that in Toronto.

Yeah, I just saw a piece about that on the news. It seems huge. I didn't even know it existed, LOL. Good for Oliver for having such an opportunity. Maybe he'll get a huge following in India! Speaking about the Pigotts, I hope they'll release their new album soon, I'm curious to hear their new music.

Are they still recording together as the Pigott Bros.? I like them both - to say I'm looking forward with excitement to their new music would probably involve fibbing, on my part. :) I wish them luck. It's good O. is getting gigs - a gig like that is really good. Is Sebastian getting any more TV work? Seems like he was off to a good start. I believe these guys both did better as a result of being on Idol. And that's a good thing.
