I know right! I thought about this as well this week. Well, I can't even keep up with Twitter these days and I'm actually not sad to be spending less time online.
So, David's album is coming out next week. And I as wrote on Twitter (and also discussed a bit with SleepinIn), I'm not super excited about it (the album is streaming on AOL). I guess all the talk about diversity and varied instrumentation on the album elevated my expectations, so I guess I did not expect the album to be full on midtempo power-ballads with quiet verses and epic choruses, and that's what it is. I really love a couple of the songs, but I guess I expected David to be more original or something, and now I'm seeing that he might not be as much as I thought. The album is enjoyable to listen to, but the songs are very predictable and it makes the whole thing kind of boring. I could blame the label, but David himself says that the album really represents what he wanted to achieve and all that. So yeah, I'm kind of disappointed. Maybe some songs will grow on me, but so far, the only thing that comes to mind when I listen to the stream is generic, generic, generic. The vast majority of fans seem to love the album though, so I think it's just me. Several are praising the complexity of the album and I'm like "what complexity?". I may be a music snob, but David's new album definitely does not fall under my "complex music" definition.
Anyway, rant over. Maybe I'll wait until next week to listen to it again and give some songs the chance to grow on me.
