The thing is, I already don't trust 19 and their friends at all right now. And a lot of things they do just confirm that I'm right in not trusting them.
I don't trust the bastards at 19, either, but who are these friends I'm supposed to be wary of?
I haven't given this thing any thought, so I'm just talking off the top of my head, as it were, but I have faith in Jive; not sure why, but I do. (Not 19, and maybe Kris would be better off not managed by 19. When can he end that, anyway?)
Jive probably did marketing surveys and found The Truth was popular. The song is too long and had to be re-recorded for radio. Since some time has passed, and the album was recorded in haste, they probably wanted to rearrange it a bit. Then because Hey Soul Sister is such a huge hit, someone got the bright idea to have Pat M. come in and sing on the record, so that they can market the song and tie it in with that hit in people's minds.
I think they think like business people, not artists, and this is how they came up with this semi-disaster (and I think, honestly, it's awful -- I haven't been able to listen to it a second time) -- i. e., with the best of intentions.
Maybe tonight they released this thinking they'd get a lot of positive feedback, and are now shocked at the result. Maybe they were divided, with some people thinking it was great and others thinking it sucked, so they decided, "Let's put it out there and see which of us the fans agree with." Maybe Kris doesn't like it, and they put it out there to prove to him he's wrong, and it backfired.
One thing, though -- I remember Kris said they were certain that when they released LLWD it was going to be a big hit for him. There doesn't seem to be that certainty with this, or they would have just released it.
