Personally I'm beginning to think the sooner Adam and Kris go their separate ways, the better. I want Kris to get the appreciation he deserves from his own fans, and not have to compete all the time with those Adam freaks. Kris is a subtler artist, and I guess when he shares the stage with Adam, people just seem to want to compare them, and Kris doesn't seem to compare favorably to many of those people, even critics.

Which reminds me, when is that Central Park concert with Cook, Kris, and Adam?

I wonder if that Heartless thing was just a rumor. I hope not. I also wonder how soon they'll pull the other (current, studio) Heartless to make way for the new one... if there is a new one?

I didn't happen to hear it on Mix 98.5 today and I listened for a few hours, on my lunch and after work.

Heartless, Salt Lake City:

Okay wow that one is great.

No, I kinda think it's going to happen (Heartless) The band members were going to play it on Conan (tour version they said) via twitter. I don't know how it will play out but seriously.. still listening to that video and it's SOOOO good. They would be crazy not to release it if only to have an amazing version of the song out there.

Did you see that Walmart is releasing a 5 song ep? Have they done that before?

August 8th for GMA??

This is the best I've heard him do it in concert so far. He's way more relaxed, here, don't you think?

August 8th? Okay, thanks. I guess we will have to endure the Galmberts and their applause meters.

No kidding - that was amazing. You're right Ross best version so far.

Ali was great on Conan too, I think she surprised him.

JUst another example of Canadians attempting to duplicate American programming. Maybe it would be a better idea for Canadians to present something uniquely Canadian to Canadian viewers instead of copying American programming.

I'm all for that too. I'd actually love for Canadian broadcasters to be more proactive in developing Canadian shows. They seem to be giving us a few more - Durham County (must watch), Flashpoint, etc. (Hugh Dillon = awesome) And in music programming/reality Idol The Next Star, Star Academie. American Idol though was based on Pop Idol from the Uk so it's Canada copying America who's copying the Uk.

But you're right. We need more proactive programming.

Isn't Idol more like a franchise, with Australian Idol and Canadian Idol and all? I mean, it's not so much Canadian Idol copying American Idol, it's more like all these different countries follow the same formula because the same people produce the show everywhere.

I have watched a bit of Flashpoint, since you can see it online.

Did you guys know Beverly Hills 90210 was based on DeGrassi Jr. High/DeGrassi High? That's a case of the US copying Canadian programming (of course, when Hollywood got through with it it was nothing like Degrassi).

That reminds me, Oliver Pigott tweeted that US fans of the bros. should watch for Sebastian on The Discovery Channel later this month, in a made-for-TV film.

---by the way, the person who uploaded Heartless has partial performances of some of the other songs. Kind of like teasers because they're very short, in some cases, but the person was in the fifth row I guess so they're really close up.

Guess I'll just have to get used to this stuff, but that Salt Lake reviewer (Deseret News) who said that despite Adam's applause "decibels," Kris still managed to "crank out his set" got me riled a bit. Who are these people? Definition I found online: "Crank out: To produce in a routine or monotonous manner. To produce mechanically or as if by machine."

I've just been looking at Adam's set just to try to hear this mad cheering, but I ended up listening to a couple of things, Mad World and Slow Ride. For some reason (and it has nothing to do with those reviews) I'm so unimpressed with the stuff. What impresses me: On MW, his pretty, trained, tenor voice. What bugs me: his pretty, trained, tenor voice. It sounds vaguely Broadway, to me. Well, not vaguely, exactly.

More later...

(continued...)

The sound is very "modern Broadway," to me. This in itself (in the right context) is fine, but I'm surprised it's considered great pop music by some people, because it isn't really pop.

Slow Ride: surprisingly cheesy. (I think one of the reviewers even pointed this out, once). It really is like you're watching the show at the Sands in Las Vegas. (I've gone from Broadway to Vegas, now.)

I'd have to also cite Anoop as somebody who doesn't seem to sing with passion or inspiration, but nobody's calling Anoop the next supertar. Adam has, mainly, the voice, the presence, the energy. Not so much: the heart, the soul, the inspiration, the artistry.

I guess I'm trying to give them all room to grow. Adam does have the potential to be a big pop star - he has the voice and the attitude, (and the right press quite frankly) he just needs the right songs and that looks like it might happen for him. I actually agree that the songs he's singing on tour do sound very theatrical (but good) and I don't really like the Bowie medley at all. I think he would have been better to stick to one Bowie song. The thing is that this tour is really not indicitive of anything other than the fact that they can all sing... they are very raw performance wise in regards to authentic rock/pop whatever performances on a big stage. I like to look at this time as a training period. (too pollyanna?) Time for them to get out there and make some cash and gain some confidence performing for big crowds on stage, press training. They're taking a master class in touring.

The thing I worry about for Adam is that he's been put on this pedestal - and sometimes that is a hard thing to live up to. There's also the fact that a lot of Adam's fans may not like the direction his music goes.

There are moments of brilliance in Kris, Adam and Allison's sets that give me a little glimpse of their future potential as artists. It gets me a little excited. I wish some of the talented folk on CI had received a 10th of this help. Not that it's the fault of Canadian Idol, we just don't have the population to support the massive undertaking. They get so much more press coverage it's crazy.

I'll have to remember to tune in for Sebastian - I always liked Sebastian. I liked Oliver too. I just wish he hadn't done the crazy hoodie thing first thing out the gate.. save that for final 3. I needed more Ollie on CI that group number they did was just crazy good.

and another one I needed more of was Gary. Seriously - why did he not make it to top ten? Or Omar? It was a travesty.. a travesty I tell ya. :)

Exhibit A is the Rivoli performances. They were awesome.

Did you guys see this? Lovely Someone changed the audio from a performance of SYTYCD and put Kris's Lovely on there. It actually worked surprisingly well.

It's on August 7th. I can't wait! Apparently, Cook said in a radio interview today that the three of them would do a song together, but I haven't read on the Cook side of the fandom, so who knows what was really said. Anyhow, a song done by the three of them would make me very very giddy!

And beware of the Word Nerds, ross, they can rival the Glamberts any day of the week!

Yes, that's how I see it too.

Indeed. It's always easier to exceed expectations than not to live up to them.

Well, I'm having a real problem with the press, re Kris. Of course, it's still the West Coast, which is mostly Adam country. But, just as an example, today I started to read the interview with Leila Lambert that mj posted, and I was just expecting to read a nice article. Instead I read:

Adam Lambert - who grew up in Rancho Penasquitos and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School - is headlining the "American Idols Live!" tour, which arrives in San Diego on Saturday for a concert at the San Diego Sports Arena. The tour kicked off July 5 in Portland, Ore., and although this season's "Idol" winner, Kris Allen, closes each concert with an acoustic set, it is runner-up Lambert who is stopping the show each night, and whom music critics are proclaiming a superstar-in-the-making.

Okay, it's a hometown paper, so I can forgive them exaggerating certain things, but I see no necessity in always making it a competition, and saying Kris is losing it. (And his set isn't acoustic.)

There are moments of brilliance in Kris, Adam and Allison's sets that give me a little glimpse of their future potential as artists. It gets me a little excited.

One of my problems is that, this season, I had one favorite, Kris. I haven't ever been much of a fan of Adam or Allison. It's just subjective. I like them, of course. And the Kradam thing captivated everyone, me included, but I still haven't warmed to Adam as a singer or performer.

The person I like second best to Kris is Matt.

I like to look at this time as a training period. (too pollyanna?) Time for them to get out there and make some cash and gain some confidence performing for big crowds on stage, press training. They're taking a master class in touring.

The thing about Adam is he's been a professional for about ten years, and an amateur for six or seven years before that. That's a lot of performing experience. So naturally he appears more confident and polished at this point than some of the others. Some have hardly been onstage before. He probably has more experience than most Idol contestants past or present. So to a lot of people he seems head and shoulders above the rest. But as others grow and gain performing experience (even on this tour), and some of these artists begin to emerge, Adam may seem less of a standout.

It's a training period for him, too, and I hope he tries to learn.

And beware of the Word Nerds, ross, they can rival the Glamberts any day of the week!

Thanks, I'll try!

Zen, Ross, zen. It's gonna be okay. I swear. Did you watch the live stream of the concert tonight? Kris got HUGE love. Especially for ANS. And Matt...? he pretty much killed it tonight. (Samantha Ronson was dying over him) People of course were in raptures for Adam.. but that's okay. They still loved Kris - they still loved Matt. They still loved Allison.. They loved Danny.. though not so much the preaching.
--> Kris Allen! on Twitpic Kris

Just watched a Adam radio interview on youtube and the first artist on the radio stations list after Adam was
HEDLEY!! :) Made me happy

Wow, I thought I was a huge fan just cuz I've seen every episode of AI and CI. But you guys are hardcore! I can't believe you're still talking about those guys...

LOL! Two years ago I had never seen a whole episode of AI or CI, and look at the freak I've become. 8O

Hardcore, baby! :p

Zen, Ross, zen. It's gonna be okay. I swear.

I know. You're right, SleepinIn. I must walk the razor-edged path of acceptance in order to reach the Kris-colored cloud of enlightenment.

Serenity now! Serenity now!!!

Did you watch the live stream of the concert tonight? Kris got HUGE love.

Buddha, save me from the Glambertards!!!

Um, where was I? *grins sheepishly*...what live stream is that, SleepinIn?

Is this a live stream I never heard of or are you talking about rickey's thing? You mean I missed a live stream of the concert while I was typing that stupid post last night??? Serenity now...

Can I still see it someplace?

I was happy with Jim Cantiello's review for MTV. Some of the diehard Adam fans on mj's blog (many of whom are from LA) seemed to see Kris in a new light after the concert, and gave him some very cool props. (Well-deserved, of course. ;-))

When I said Matt was who I liked after Kris, I mean he is way down the page. Last night after I posted, I was trying to figure out: if I had CDs of only 3 of the top 10 on a desert island, who would the 3 be? I was kind of surprised to discover my 3 would probably be Kris, Matt, and Anoop. Surprised by Anoop especially because he's a boring performer, to me. But these are CDs, after all. Just sound. So when I started to think about who I would want to just listen to, he was my choice.

I'm in work, have to go...

HEDLEY! I'll listen later.

No kidding, eh? I've never followed along with the AI Idol tour before. It's madness. I know this and yet I can't help myself. LOL -- this is what mild mannered Kris has done. I just find his performances really compelling.

Serenity now! Serenity now!!!
Bwah!

what live stream is that, SleepinIn? Is this a live stream I never heard of or are you talking about rickey's thing? You mean I missed a live stream of the concert while I was typing that stupid post last night??? Serenity now...
Rickey was doing the cellcast but there was someone at the concert who was doing a live stream too. I was listening to the rickey cell cast and watching the live stream. It was interesting because you could hear the between the song cheers for everyone. Kris got a LOT of cheers.

Can I still see it someplace?
I'll see if I can find the link somewhere...

Yeah, I was happy too. Lots of good reviews for Kris.

Yes, the reviews are pretty good for Kris. Though, do you ever get the impression sometimes that none of these people (critics) actually "get" him the way we do? (Not just us, of course, but all his fans.) Did you read the recap the other day on mj's blog, where the recapper mentioned the woman near her, sitting through Kris's set sort of transfixed, with her hands over her heart the whole time? You used the word "compelling," and that is for me the word for him.

Of course the reviews could be better, because "holds his own" is not really my idea of a great review for a performer. Kris is an unusual guy, I have a reasonable amount of confidence in the idea that by the end of the concert tour he will somehow emerge the "winner" again. I don't know how he does stuff like that, but he manages to. If nothing else, I'm sure his reviews will improve a lot. If Heartless is released to radio, and becomes some kind of hit, and he's singing it in the concert, that might be the hook. Or something else. There's just something about this guy.

LA...mj says the national media converged on the concert. Too bad it was on Adam's home turf, where the love for him has been huger than anywhere, it seems, but it is what it is. ;-)

Here's the link for the stream Qik | CurrentCelebrity | American Idol Live 2009 Staples Center, Los Angeles CA there doesn't seem to be any sound though.. don't know what's up with that. But you can see the lights...and blurry figures on the stage. lol.

Here's another interview
Kris Allen On How He Juggles Marriage and His Career - Kris Allen

This is the second time that he's mentioned Shakira. I find this new song of hers hysterical (anemic wolf howl) but strangely fun.
