What's his next single, has it been confirmed?

I heard it was If I Had You. But maybe they're going with Sleepwalker. Tedder has a proven track record for selling songs.

Quote:
By the way, I hope they mention the single on Idol this week -- maybe on the results show?
I wouldn't get my hopes up. I don't think they will, especially if they didn't mention it last week.

Yeah, Idol is weird isn't it? I hope they mention it, but I'm thinking that they won't too.

Were those Numbers for Ingrid correct? That's a ton of sales!!

And Hedley -- Kris and Hedley released their CD's the same day. This is their 3rd video. Kris is very thrifty.

You really think Kris is being thrifty? He only has one single out. How can he have more than one video?

Hedley tends to do this kind of thing with their music, releasing several singles and videos over a fairly short time. They're not new artists and I think it's a different situation or strategy altogether.

Since they don't sell music in the USA, they don't get the big numbers, sales wise, so I think they try to wring every last buck they can out of the music buyers. I don't know how many singles Hedley usually sells, but I'll bet they've never once sold a million downloads of any one single, or 250,000 albums, like Kris. They're successful in Canada but I don't know how they can make any money unless they do what they always do -- release and promote a lot of singles from their albums, sell their albums, and tour almost nonstop.

I listened to a bit of that Leno performance, since I didn't know the song. I thought it was a snooze. But, yeah, I'm probably not the best judge where Adam is concerned!

Oh, and also, they already got rid of the individual Twitter/Facebook accounts for the AI9 contestants... too much job for the intern that was responsible? They're all going to be "tweeting" now from the generic @AI9contestants account.

Well, it is called Sleepwalker. :)

PS -- I didn't mean to sound like I was denigrating Hedley for success in Canada. Or denigrating Canada. I just meant it must be hard for Hedley to make a lot of money when they sell platinum, or double platinum, or whatver, because that doesn't actually represent all that many sales, compared to US platinum.

For sure, I was just thinking that Hedley's strategy has been similar to Adam's. Hedley also get funding from Factor for making videos. It doesn't all come from them and the record company in Canada. Much Music and probably others that I don't know have a fund to help artists produce their videos.

I don't know how many singles Hedley usually sells, but I'll bet they've never once sold a million downloads of any one single, or 250,000 albums, like Kris.

No you're absolutely right. That's why our gold records are like 50,000 not 500,000. If you look at the radio spins for Canadian artists they're also way lower than what US artists can expect for something considered a hit, and their total adds are in the low digits. Without the US's market they just won't sell that many records at all. It's a hard business to be in. Especially here in Canada. When you think of it - there are 30 million or so people in Canada and then divide that music scene up again to account for language, and it's a very small market with a very large land mass.

Well, it is called Sleepwalker.

LOL :)

Wow, that didn't take long, eh? Remember how they had a tour twitter during the Idol tour? No one ever used it. I sense a theme.

Kris Allen/UN Foundation Haiti trip

On Hedley and Canadian artists, I don't even know the situation, but as you pointed out, once, SleepinIn, touring across Canada, especially in winter, can be grueling. Just one example of why I admire Canadian artists who gain success there. And once again I think my post sounded like I was saying Hedley's platinum sales are not as meaningful, somehow, as US platinum. They are. Maybe they're more meaningful. I don't really know. Mainly I was just trying to figure out how they make money, I guess.

Reports are that Bowersox will perform tonight.

And can I just say...

Ugh. :-?

I read this post just now -- you guys may have seen it earlier.

Well, here’s another album to keep a sales eye on. Adam, Kris and Daughtry will all have tracks on the NOW That’s What I Call Music, vol. 33, CD, that is being released on March 23rd

Yeah, someone heard it on the radio -- or something. We'll see, I guess. I hope so. But I also hope she can handle being on the show and it doesn't become too much for her later on. If she has to bow out I'd rather it was now, not later.

The poster named kristen amswers the poster named alaadam, on MJ's:
Wow. I am surprised that Kris only sold 7,000 after his idol appearance. I thought the bump would be higher. He got positive reviews from singing. But his album sales are really anemic! It looks like the album is slipping on itunes too.
Your constant concern for Kris despite how rarely your optimism for his sales is rewarded is a soothing balm to the hearts of Kris fans…

By the way, people are saying that since Kris performed on Idol on a Thursday, the seemingly slight increase in his album #'s doesn't represent a full week of sales.

Okay, you guys won't like this because it's mean. And you're nice. So I must be mean. Nice and mean. Because I thought it was funny. Well, clever, anyhow (it's about the Glamberts at the Indio show):

Heh, gotta agree that Adam must be hating the throng he got himself into. It’s not the young, hip crowd. it’s the old, hip replacement crowd.

I never thought of that. It must be so weird for Adam. Seriously. I'm not being mean. He's a young guy with aspirations to hipness. Then he has these fans. That has to strike him as some kind of weird cosmic joke.

(Glamily Reunion photo from Fantasy Springs)

One of his fans there wrote this:

Adam is as far from awkward as you can get, he’s liquid sex, he’s Bowie, Morrison, Bolan and Plant. He drips sex from his fingertips. Think this is hyperbole, ask anyone who was at the concert Saturday. After WLL people needed a cigarette. If you want graphic, there wasn’t a dry pair of panties in the venue. Yeah, he’s that good.

Now, I'm not going to deny Adam is good. And if he makes the ladies...need to buy new panties...those they didn't already throw on the stage, I mean...that's really...nice.
He has fans. They buy a lot of music from him. And they love him. There are a lot worse things I can think of.

ross, you're not live-blogging tonight?

Well, Haeley + The Climb = Something I didn't want to hear, so I'll pass.

Why did Kara tell her that she needed one more year to work on her instrument? Why didn't they tell her to come back next year at her audition? The kid is obviously not ready, why did they say yes? Because she has a nice smile?

I'm no Katie fan, but I thought the judges were a bit harsh on her. I mean, I agreed that she took that cute song and made it sound old-fashioned, but at least she sounded pretty good. Not that I would buy it or anything, but she wasn't a disaster.

And from her video package, she seems to take herself less seriously than most 17 year-old girls, which is a good thing.

Didi took a huge step back for me tonight. Why would she think that would work? I thought her performance tonight was indulgent, not the one from last week. I cringed throught her performance. I'm disappointed, because to me, she has a lot of potential, but that's not the stuff I want to see her doing.

Oh. With Arms Wide Open. One of my most hated songs ever. It's even worse than Hinder. And Michelle did NOT make me like it. She sounds kinda whiny, the rhythm was somewhat plodding and she seemed to be struggling at the end.

I think what the girls have going for them though, compared to the guys, is their likeability factor. I might not like their performances, but these girls are likeable to me. I smile during their video package, I feel for them when the judges give them harsh critics. Well, I don't find Lacey that likeable, since she seems a bit desperate, but she's not unlikeable either. Yes, some guys are really likeable, but not all of them.
