The only thing I have to add to both your observations is that I think reviews do matter for first albums. After that, if the person is popular, they probably don't matter as much.

I can see reviews affecting sales of a debut artist to a certain extent, especially if they are overwhelmingly negative. You're right about that.

I'm so invested this year, in Kris, Adam and Allison. I want them all to do well, but I sometimes wonder if 19 shot their own foot by signing them all off the bat, and promoting their albums so close together. I know they all have their own music styles that don't really impact the others, but I wonder if the Idol fanbase as a whole is a bit fragmented by the 3-some. I don't know.. just wondering, lol.

And did you look at the artwork Ross? I think I'm going to wait until I get the physical Cd in my hands. Afterall I've heard the album already, I've got to have some surprise.
(but, crap it's pretty?)

I'm starting to think that maybe the market might be saturated with Idols. Yes, they do have different styles, though some fall in the same categories, but it still makes me wonder. Some people just won't listen to anything that comes from an Idol contestant. It's true that with all those who still have major label contracts and all those who still make music, even if they don't have the same exposure, it's still a lot of singers and musicians!

The chart will probably change tomorrow but right now LLWD has gone ahead of FYE on the pop chart. LLWD at #29 and FYE at #33.

God, that chick just kept hammering at me on that other blog. The reason I even replied to her in the first place was probably because she was killing my buzz. People just nit-pick the life out of everything, over there, at times. I feel kind of sorry for people who can't enjoy anything.

The whole problem with her reply to me was this: if I like something and you don't, you can't tell me it's because you know more than me, and if I only knew as much as you do, then I would think like you do. Not only is that rude in so many ways, but it assumes a lot about me, when in fact the person knows zero about me.

Not only did I get the "See more bands" line, she then repeated it and elabotated on it in yet another post, and lectured us all about how we should all be more musically informed. Unfortunately forums are not real life, because if I were present when this person was saying this to me, I would have just had a simple three word answer that begins with "Go" and ends with "yourself."

I'm sure if you make her that face, she'll totally leave you alone!!

Sorry! Seriously, don't let these random people kill your buzz. But I know it's hard sometimes to let it go, especially when it's someone like the girl you're talking about.

LOL!! Hilarious.

Grrr... I wasn't the only person to point out that Ryland has had a lot of professional experience. Apparently he even won some award, according to another poster. I also thought the stuff I heard on his MySpace sounded great.

I never did get the criticisms this person made about Miami, either, re Ryland. You would never have guessed that was a first try, for that band, if you didn't know. I listen to so many YouTube videos of live bands, and even many established ones sound bad live. And this one sounded good. Three new songs introduced, and people 'got' them right away, and most loved them. If the presentation had sucked, if the rhythm sucked, that could not have happened.

One thing I notice is how, online, someone says something authoritatively and then a lot of people start parrotting it. It could be a mere opinion but if it's stated like a fact people seem to follow it. When this happens, I have a strong urge to nip it in the bud. I really don't want "Ryland sucks and needs to be replaced" to be an opinion that somehow becomes accepted as a "fact". There's something about him I like. He seems to be good at his job, and also he seems to be a character. Which I like. The fact that he put on the Ed Harris t-shirt Friday put a smile on my face. I have a feeling he and Kris are compatible, and I'll bet he's a good guy. I want him around.

Whether this is a permanent band, at this point, though, I don't know.

Nice review of the album, from Syracuse. Doesn't say much, but it's positive:

Kris Allen's deut drops Tuesday | American Idol Thoughts - syracuse.com

I've come to a conclusion about reviews. Which you guys may disagree with. I don't care what they say, I don't care how boneheaded they may be, as long as they're positive! My feeling about them is based on reviews as promotion. You only have to look at Adam's reviews on tour. I appreciate a thoughtful, intelligent critique as much as anyone, but I honestly think people skimming the paper mostly read the headline and scan a review quickly, with one thing in mind, "Is it (the performer, the album, the TV show) good, or is it bad?" Or maybe: "Should I like this or not?"

This is how a lot of people I know are. "That movie? It's supposed to suck. The paper said so." So good reviews are, to me, good promo.

Here's another B-. This one is from Long Island Newsday. Very short. This guy loved Kris on the show, if it's the same guy who reviewed the show for this paper. (I think it is). The guy seems to think Kris is better than the music he's doing here. ('BOTTOM LINE: "Idol" makes best of a tough situation.') I wonder if a lot of reviews are going to suggest Kris is stuck doing an "Idol" album. I really don't feel that, myself.

Kris Allen's post-'American Idol' debut CD

And now, a blurb about LLWD from yet another person who says, "At first I thought I was listening to The Script." Gee, does every song of The Script's sound like LLWD, or something? Because I listened to some of their stuff and I don't think I could pin down LLWD as a Script song if I didn't already know it was. My point, I guess, is: do these people really mean that this was their initial reaction? Or, have they heard it's a Script song and are just being clever after the fact? Opinions, differing or otherwise, are welcome and encouraged. :)

I'm feeling relatively angst-less today, like most days I guess. Ryland? Reviews? The Script? Bah. Sorry ross, I don't really have anything to add except my now official mantra: "Whatever the reviews say, I don't care". Also, for Ryland? The band have had two performances together. We'll see how they develop together.

I have this to add though: in a way, Kris was a bit stuck doing an "Idol" album, in the sense that it was done fast, while he was often not necessarily always present in the studio, and he had to collaborate with a lot of different writers to get the finished product. My opinion, though, is that, even with these constraints, Kris did indeed make the best of it. I think there's an authentic and cohesive feeling to his album that is indeed hard to obtain doing an "Idol" album. So, while I disagree a lot with that review, I kind of agree with the "Idol makes the best of a tough situation". Kris himself said that it had been somewhat hard to make that record and I totally believe him. I think the Idol albums will always somewhat suffer from the time constraints and the "marketable" contraints, so I'm very happy that I get this amazing authentic feel about Kris's album. It could have way different and I'm grateful that it's not.

Now, Kris's tweetpics? LMAO! He's converting some Cook fans that I follow on Twitter, who've never heard him sing, with his sense of humor. I guess they might take a listen, now. Good job Kris!

I love the David Cook face - that's awesome. And so, so appropriate. Nitpickers to the left.

Missaddicted, I feel sort of the same way, I think the album is really good and the one thing I am really glad about is that it does feel authentically Kris. Even the Script written songs (seriously, there is no escape from the Script.. they are everywhere and everyone knows what they sound like.. lmao.. apparently they sound like LLWD..) sound like something Kris would sing or say. As much as I don't like Lifetime, I know Kris believes in it, and likes it, so it feels real to me.

And I agree with you Ross about Ryland. He seems to have a playful side that could be really interesting when you mix it with Kris and Cale. But, you're right who knows if this is the final band make-up.

I love Kris's sense of humour, honestly, telling people that he uses a mechanical device to play the guitar? lol. He's converting some Adam fans too. He is sneaky, I've always said that. Ninja Idol.

Someone just posted this to twitter, Ryan announcing that Kris's LLWD is the breakout song of the week (recorded message from Kris!) Awesome!

That IS awesome! And he's in good company: Kelly, Carrie, Jordin and David, the four most successful winners, I believe (I bet Daughtry and Archie also made it, but Ryan was of course talking about the winners!). So much for that comparision that Kris was barely better than Taylor, Ryan!

But, you're right who knows if this is the final band make-up.

He actually thanks them by their names in the CD booklet, so I'd bet these musicians have at least signed on to play with Kris for a while.

That's right! He thanks the band in the CD booklet. When did he write that? Twoo weeks ago? Guy must be overwhelmed.

Nobody here?

Tomorrow, right at this time, Kris's album will be downloading in my iTunes! Yay!

I wandered on MJ's, but stayed far from the comments, and saw the pictures and the details from Adam's video shoot. Boy, that all looked way way OTT! I'm both curious to see it and a bit repulsed.

Jemma, if you're still reading (??), I believe that it's tomorrow night that you're going to see David Cook! I wish you a great show and if there is any way for you to write a short recap of something (maybe on my wall??), that would be awesome!

ETA: We can also vote for Kris's video for the VH1 Countdown: VH1.com: VSpot Top 20 Countdown. You can vote only for him, you don't have to fill all 20 slots. I don't get VH1, but he's going to be there on next weekend's countdown. I think I read that his video debuted this week, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyhow, it would be nice if his video made the countdown while he's there!

Okay, I voted for Kris. About 10 times.

That breakout song of the week thing was pretty cool. Was LLWD on Ryan's Top 40 countdown?

So I've been voting for this people's choice thing for about 15 minutes. No idea whether you need to clear cookies or not. Can anyone tell me? I did, anyhow. I also threw a few votes Daughtry's way.

I haven't voted for this thing much before, but I'm thinking for those of us who are Kris fans it would be a sweet moment if he won. I don't see how he can beat Adam in these online things, though; he never seems to.

I just read the article about Monopoly. I couldn't like this guy any more if you paid me money.

Kris sounds really tired and draggy (but happy) in that interview -- early morning?-- but he looks good! Plaid shirt today. I like that one.
