dont say we have better websites then america we will be forced to shut them down or sell them >_<

It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the Canadian websites are owned by Americans, Johnnny. Especially some of the pornographic websites. They are still Puritans for the most part in USA, some of the websites that won’t be permitted in USA are probably OK in Canada.

Like what... child porn? Animals? That stuff is OK up in Canada?

Puritans...we're crawling with them! Just go to Plimoth Plantation and you can see them anytime. Thou knows ZIP about Puritans.

Come on, as long as the porn doesn't involve animals or children it's more likely then not legal in the US.

What do you mean by a Canadian website?

That is true enough. It may be that Canadian identity is still evolving.
DUH! As old as England is, it has changed identity. China is even older and it is changing. Change is healthy. You should try it sometime, Joke.

Oh, it remains legal all right, Supreme Court has so decreed. However, during Bush presidency, he tried his best to make life difficult for pornographers. I remember a year or so before the end of his term, Bush significantly increased the bookkeeping requirements for the porno sites. Not only they have to keep detailed information about the models they use, but they also have to display it prominently on their website and they are subject to checks by the government from time to time. I don’t know if Obama has rescinded these requirements.

I think when it comes to porno sites, there is lot less red tape, lot less paperwork in Canada than in USA, in Canada we are not obsessed with pornography, they are in USA (mainly because of religious right).

wow Canadian websites are good. Whooopee. Maybe we are mediocre. I've found good websites from all over the planet. Might as well say Canada is special because it doesn't have .ru or .au or .uk or .de

Actually, Canada is more restrictive than the US when it comes to porn; for several years, Penthouse had to print a different edition for Canada, because there were several things that were not permitted for our delicate eyes.

No doubt that was the case in old days, TenPenny. I remember there was a book store in BC which was in the news for many years. It used to import lesbian literature and it constantly used to get into trouble with the Customs officials.

But that was a long time ago, in the old days, Canada was if anything even more puritanical than USA. We used to enforce the Blue Laws quite vigorously, abortion was banned in Canada (and while it was legalized in USA by the Supreme Court, in Canada we were still imprisoning doctors for performing abortions as late as the 80s).

But in the last ten years or so Canada has become very progressive, very liberal. So I assume that these days Canada is more relaxed about pornography than USA, although I am not all that familiar with the laws here in Canada regarding pornography.

Yeah the difference between what Canada allows and what America allows is kind of funny. Like tv: in Canada swearing is allowed on mainstream tv as is a little nudity, whereas in the States, swearing is bleeped and no nudity is allowed. Yet American tv has extreme violence as a staple and includes such hate dialogue as some of what Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh spew.
Anyway, it's another difference between Canucks and Yanks. Big deal.

Tenpenny, I remember one of the TV stations in Toronto, City TV used to show soft core porno movies every Friday night, it was perfectly legal. I don’t know why they stopped recently, maybe change of management.

In USA they would never permit soft core porn on public channels, only on cable.

Of course it is. Joey is talking out his backside once again about something he knows nothing about. As you can see by his last post he is doing his typical dumb dance.

And yet we Americans are the ones obsessed with porn when you watched it every Friday night and knew when it stopped?

Is the Doc working extra hours Joey?

Don’t change the subject, EagleSmack, that is a common enough tactic when one is losing the argument. We are discussing whether USA is more puritanical than Canada when it comes to sex, when it comes to porn. And clearly it is. The things that are permitted on public TV channels in Canada are not permitted in USA, in USA they will be permitted only on cable, pay channel (like the Playboy channel).

Indeed, when Janet Jackson accidentally bared her breast on TV, FCC was flooded with complaints, they received several hundred thousand complaints. By contrast, the CRTC here in Canada received less than 1000 complaints, it was a non issue in Canada, while it caused a huge controversy in USA.

You make it so easy.

OK... the USA leads the world in the porn industry...yet we are Puritanical about it.

You most certainly are. Most of your porn industry is concentrated in California (Vivid Entertainment etc.), which is a liberal state (well, what passes for liberal in USA). But large parts of USA are very puritanical, as was evident from the outrage generated by the Janet Jackson incident.

Also, a substantial part of your population would like nothing better than to close down the porn industry in California.
