not very sunnyways news ladies and gentlemen.

A video has emerged of two Canadians who are being held hostage by Abu Sayyaf gunmen in the Philippines, appealing to the Canadian government to pay their ransom.

Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall warn they will be beheaded if their ransom is not paid within the next 10 days.

The two men are among four hostages who speak directly to the camera in the troubling video.

“This is a final, urgent appeal to governments -- Philippine, Canadian – and families,” Ridsdel says in the video. “If $300 million (Philippine pesos) is not paid for me by 3 p.m. on April 25, they will behead me.”

In the video, Hull said he is appealing specifically to the Canadian government, “who I know has the capacity to get us out of here. I’m wondering what they’re waiting for.”

In September, gunmen abducted Ridsdel and Hall, along with Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad and Filipino Marites Flor, at an upscale resort complex on a southern Philippine island.

In a video released late last year, the militants demanded more than $60 million for the release of the four hostages.

The amount they are asking for is $8 million in Canadian currency. A drop in the proverbial bucket for all the wealthy Canadian right wingers. Pass the hat around here in CC for all those elites as it is their Christian duty to save those lives.

No win situation there. If the government follows through they'll be attacked for giving in to terrorists. If they dont do it and the hostages are killed they'll be blamed for not doing enough.

Shocked this isn't bigger news in Canada (ex. @MFFahmy11 coverage). #ISIS about to behead 2 Cdn citizens! #cdnpoli

To be clear, shouldn't be a partisan issue: Cdn PM has little leverage. Media silence strange though @MFFahmy11 @mfisheroverseas #cdnpoli

My friend, John Ridsdel, fellow Canadian Robert Hall, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad and Hall’s Filipina girlfriend, Marites Flor, may be beheaded by Islamic extremists on Monday at 3 a.m. EDT unless a ransom of 300 million pesos or nearly $9 million is paid for each of them.

Maybe they should try GOfundme. This is not the Canadian governments problem unless they decide to send in the Canadian army to deal with the situation.

Only 2 viable options here....

1- leave it alone. The travellers assumed the risk when they left Canada. We shouldn't pay anything as it sets a bad precedent.

2- bomb the sh*t out of where they are being held killing everyone within a mile or 2 sending the message that any other ransom attempts will result in the perpetrator and all those around them being dead very quickly.

Apparently you aren't thinking clearly. If they are good as dead then paying any ransom just makes all Canadians targets of kidnappers because the got will pay. Also if they are good as dead then killing everyone holding them makes it clear the only ransom Canada will pay is carpet bombing and others may think twice before kidnapping a Canadian.

What's your solution Bill?

Puff Puff Puff your brain is rotting you make No Sense At All there is No Ransom being paid to anyone nor will there be.

The Filipino Army isn't going to slaughter local villagers because rich tourists are in trouble-what planet are you from?

Good security-when the kidnappers showed up on the dock @ the resort the resort guards ran & hid-I have this from security people attached to high level Filipino govt squad I met last year when the president was visiting here.
When you pay people five dollars a day to protect your life from armed threats how effective do you think they are in the face of violence?
They are there for minimum wage and possibly a daily meal the actual performance of the job doesn't mean anything to them.

First your post/reply intimated my option of leaving them to be beheaded instead of paying a random was wrong and unwelcome. Now it seems you agree...I'm confused...should the govt pay or not in your opinion.

Second who said anything about the Philipino army? Send in half a dozen F-18s and carpet bomb the area where they are held. Sure you will kill the Canadians (who are dead anyway according to you) and kill some innocent Phillipinos but who cares...it is sending a message to all others who might think of kidnapping a Canadian they will die and telling all those who might offer support to such gangs they will die too. Win-Win!

The Harper Cons could have turned the election around if they had of charged in and rescued them but I suppose they were busy talking about someones hair ....

Indonesia will set up a crisis center, headed by President Joko Widodo, to handle security situations involving its citizens overseas, a senior minister said on Monday, following recent abductions of Indonesian sailors in Philippine waters.

The center will include senior ministers and military and police chiefs and will be designed to respond quickly to situations that could have a "strategic impact", chief security minister Luhut Pandjaitan told reporters.

"We hope this will be (operational) as soon as possible," he said

Since coming to power in 2014, Widodo has placed maritime security for the Indonesian archipelago high on his government's agenda.

Indonesia has voiced fears that a surge in piracy in the waters between Indonesia and the Philippines could reach Somalian levels and has told vessels to avoid danger areas.

Up to 18 Indonesians and Malaysians have been kidnapped in three attacks in recent weeks on tugboats in Philippine waters by groups suspected of ties to the Abu Sayyaf militant network.

Abu Sayyaf, which has posted videos on social media pledging allegiance to Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, has demanded 50 million pesos ($1.1 million) to free the hostages, but the Indonesian government has said it does not intend to pay the ransom.

Cdn hostage's severed head found after ransom passes

MANILA - The severed head of John Ridsdel, 68, a Canadian hostage being held in the Philippines was found on a remote island on Monday.
The discovery came only five hours after the expiry of a ransom deadline set by Islamist militants who had threatened to execute Ridsdell and another Canadian man held captive there since last fall.
Robert Hall, 50, and John Ridsdel, 68 -- as well as a Norwegian man and a Filipino woman — appealed in a video for their families and governments to secure their release.
Residents found the head in the centre of Jolo town, after two men on a motorcycle were seen dropping it off in a plastic bag.
In a video released a couple of weeks ago, the haggard Canadians were forced -- with machetes to their throats -- to beg for a ransom of 300 million pesos ($8.3 million) for each of them, as the terrorists set a deadline of Monday.
The pair were taken hostage from an upscale resort on Samal Island on Sept. 21.
Al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf is a small but brutal militant group known for beheading, kidnapping, bombing and extortion.]
Philippine forces were hoping to move in on the terrorist stronghold and free the hostages earlier Monday.
"Maximum efforts are being exerted ... to effect the rescue," the military and police said in a joint statement without divulging details of the rescue operation, which was ordered by President Benigno Aquino III.
